Get The Computer Out Of Apparent Hibernation?

Would like to know how to get the computer out of apparent hibernation after my granddaughter logs off. I set up an account so she can have her own screen saver and other things kids like. But when she leaves and I log her off, the window goes totally black. The only way I have been able to get rid of it is to do a cold shutdown and I hate doing this.I cannot find out any info in the Help files as I always try to find the information first but know you all are so great at things, here I am asking help again.

The problem i have been having is that my pc freezes and random moments and doesnt unfreeze.So basically after it freezes, which usually occurs when im gaming, chatting or listening to music,I have to actually turn the power off to get it going again.I dont get any error messages of any kind.

This has been an ongoing problem now for about a month. Every so often and usually when I'm playing a game, my computer will abruptly shut off. Because it seemed to happen while playing games, I assumed it was my EVGA GeForce 9800 card that was causing the shutdown. However, last night I was just mindlessly surfing and I had the same issue. When I tried to restart, it took a few times before it 'took' this has happend before in the past when the computer has abruptly crashed as for the GeForce, I've uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled.I've also checked to see if it's the fans, but they all seem to be working fine, no obstructions. Is it possible that with it being summer, the room might be getting too hot and in turn causing the computer to run hotter than usual? I don't keep the air on all the time in that room as it's a window unit and I'm conserving energy.

I have a computer with windows xp on it and i set it so that after 2 hours of inactivity it would turn off the monitor. well i went to bed that night and when i woke up i went to go onto my computer. But, the monitor wouldnt turn on. i thought it was the monitor at first, but i just realized its the computer. i plugged in my old computer which im on now and the monitor works fine.

Have a relatively new J & N custom computer running Win XP-SP3. Has an Intel Core Duo E8400 CPU on an Intel mobo with onboard sound and video. 2GB RAM. Two weeks or so ago, after fooling around with some services (unchecking ones I didn't think I needed), the computer started doing something strange: When you bring it out of hibernation (not standby -- full hibernation), it comes back alive for maybe 20 seconds, looks and works normally.

I recently stripped the cord running from my USB mouse to the computer on accident, so until i get a new mouse I use the keyboard only for now. I was attempting to switch users by hitting the windows key and going to switch users, when I accidentally hit Hibernate. The computer went into hibernation and NOTHING I do will bring it out, the fan is still running, the monitor shuts itself off and will not show anything when I reboot the computer or try anything else. Ive tried many ways to restart the computer and bring it back out but I've had no luck, as of right now I'm using my parents computer until I can get my own running again.

I have had this problem for a long time. Every time I put my computer on Hibernation mode, it automatically wakes up after a random period of time, sometimes ten minutes to half and hour or sometimes only thirty seconds. I tried everything: unplugging my mouse, keyboard, Ethernet cable from my computer during Hibernation, and it still wakes up. Stand By mode also affected. This started to happen about one year ago (my computer is two years old). I put my xp computer in hibernation now it wont boot and I get the error message Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu or continue with System restart has anyone had the same problem and be able to advise me if i need a system reboot disk or what do you recommend I do ?

I am having trouble with my computer. Every time I start it up or try to bring it out of hibernation, it takes almost a half hour to start. Once it does start up everything runs just fine. It also has no trouble shutting done, the problem is just with the initial start-up. I will press the button to turn my computer on and the lights will come on but it takes forever for my password screen to pop up. My comnputer just started freezing randomly, and I cannot listen to music and do something else anymore. Any action that MS Word, or Firefox, or IE, etc, takes, and the music starts skipping. Same thing with videos. The computer has just become very uncooperative in general. And the "activity light" of the computer that normally blinks, sometimes stays on, without blinking, for minutes at a time, and I am not doing anything.

My computer freezes with no apparent pattern. I can have everything that runs at start up running and it will freeze, or I can kill all the processes except for essential ones. It still hangs at random intervals.I don't really know what to do, it's interfering with my work and saving every 2 minutes gets kind of tedious.The one thing that I thought of which obviously isn't the problem now that I've tried it. I have a HDD from my previous computer in as well as the new one. I disabled the drive and it still ended up freezing. Sometimes it will freeze a minute after my computer boots, sometimes it will go for hours and hours.
Does anyone have any idea what might be doing this?

LAN connectivity simply dies- I can't access the internet, but for some reason, my Google Talk still has connectivity. The other computer connected to my router still works, however. It is only the first computer that gets this problem. (The second computer never has connectivity problems, BTW.) The problem can always be rectified by simply logging off and back on.

I would really appreciate some advice concerning a troublesome computer.A friend who was running Windows XP on a two-years old computer began to experience occasional freezes and blue screens without any apparent pattern in program or usage. It eventually got so bad that we removed most of his installed software other than the essential, but problems continued. We then made a repair installation of Windows XP from the Dell OS installation disk, after which the computer would fall over every time after initial boot up. With sinking heart (of course, he had no image, but had data backups) we then formatted the hard disk and executed a fresh installation of Windows XP.
Windows now boots but the Windows directories contain very few folders or files. The CD drive can only be read perhaps 50% of the time. Most program installation files refuse to run, but some do. One installation disk which will not run is his internet installation. The computer continues to display sporadic blue screens.Before it goes out the window can anyone suggest our next course of enquiry?

My computer (Toshiba notepad laptop) has recently started making a "ding" noise and it isn't correlated to any action I am taking (ie opening a new window, clicking my mouse, or any specific program). It happens at completely odd frequencies with no apparent cause. I've turned my sound scheme to "No Sounds". I've done a search for spyware (nothing unusual). I've uninstalled any programs that were recently installed (it's still there). I've searched for all .wav files on my computer's c: drive and can't even find the sound that I'm hearing when I play all of the files. Nothing matches it.

So I lost my hibernation function after going from 1GB of RAM to 4GB(dual channel). I've done plenty of research and found all the hot fixes and MS support articles, one catch...... They are all for x86 while I'm running' a 64x system. I want my hibernation back! Give me hibernation or give me death...well maybe not death but I'm considering downgrading back to 1GB just to get it back.

Every time you open an program or window in my wife's computer it immediately goes into hibernation mode. You can then go back into window/program out of hibernation, but then it immedaietly returns to hibernation.

I have recently hibernated my computer and now I cannot resume it. It comes up and says "Resuming Windows" to a black screen except for the white text.I cannot seem to find the hibernation file to delete it to see if that will fix it.

Right, got a Toshiba A30-151, had XP Home OEM installed on it when it left the factory (so no install disk), finally got round to doing a reinstall (been messing about with OSX, needed clearing off and starting from scratch anyway). Some time ago a copy of XP Pro (fully legal) was posted through my door addressed to someone else, with no return address, so i kept it. anyway, thought i'd finallly use this and installed it, but now i have no option to hibernate the laptop? The hibernate tab is not there in power management. I know it's supported, as i could hibernate it before i reformatted and reinstalled. any way round this, other than using my mate's Home OEM disk and my serial to reinstall?

i can't get my Dell Dimension 8100 (640MB RAM, 1.3 GHz P4) to go into
standby or hibernation mode. When I manually put the computer in standby or
hibernate, it wakes back up in about 5 minutes or so.
I've looked/read the articles in the knowledge base, which mentioned that
there was a problem with SP1 and USB mass storage devices. Well, I've got SP2
and there still is some problem going on!

I go into Control Panel >Power Options>Hibernate and I click on "enable Hibernation" then apply and I get the message that process cannot be enabled as another process is using file. I do a clean boot and try again but get the same message. Does anyone have an idea of which other process might be using the necessary file and how I can reenable Hibernation?

During a typical dual-boot start-up, Windows provides you with a menu that allows for the selection of the desired O/S. However, after hibernating and restarting, the boot sequence DOES NOT GIVE YOU THIS OPTION! You can force things using the F8 key, but that simply generates a screen with two choices - continue with restart from hibernation, or delete the hibernation data and go to the O/S selection menu

I've been looking for a way to ensure that a specific task runs after my desktop resumes from hibernation. Initially, I'd hoped for something akin to the "Run at user logon" or "Run at startup" optionsavailable in the schedule tab of a scheduled task, but there is no setting for "Run at resume from standby/hibernation"
Restore a VPN connection after the computer's network capabilities are restored on resuming from hibernation. This is important because I have to occasionally wake thesystem from offsite using its Wake-On-LAN NIC. I've tried setting up a scheduled task to run at start-up and user logon which uses RASDIAL to dial the appropriate VPN connection, but this connection depends on the logged-in user's credentials, so it won't work at start-up. When set to have it run at user logon, it doesn't run when the computer comes out of hibernation.

whenever i Hibernate My System and then Turn it BACK ON, IT HALTS AFTER COMPLETING THE LOADING OF "RESUMING WINDOWS", Then Nothing Happens. This sucking problem was with my AthlonXP-2400+, with totally different components(but the running Programs are same --- My Friend has the SAME SYSTEM AND SAME RUNNING PROGRAMS like I DO,They have no problem). Laptop was put in to hibernation mode, and it did not seem to go down cleanly. Now when it attempts to come up it repeatedly reboots. It gets to the Windows XP splash screen then reboots again. A blue screen flashes, but is too quick to see what it says.
Problem may be due to corrupt hiberfil.sys. Is there a way to get to the C drive using a boot CD? I tried an XP boot CD ISO that I downloaded off the net, but can't get to the C drive.
System is running Windows XP Media Center Edition
Laptop is a Sony VGN-N160G.
