I've seen very clear instructions on how to put a PC or
laptop into 'standby' or 'hibernation'. but I can't find ANYWHERE how to
bring the PC or laptop out of standby or hibernation. Can someone please tell me1. How to come out of 'standby'?2. How to come out of 'hibernation'?
i can't get my Dell Dimension 8100 (640MB RAM, 1.3 GHz P4) to go into
standby or hibernation mode. When I manually put the computer in standby or
hibernate, it wakes back up in about 5 minutes or so.
I've looked/read the articles in the knowledge base, which mentioned that
there was a problem with SP1 and USB mass storage devices. Well, I've got SP2
and there still is some problem going on!
Windows XP Media center. The power button turned orange and will not restart by system. I have shut off the power bar and turned it back on. Pushed the power button and still have the orange light. The system will not even attempt to restart.

The computer hibernates or goes into standbye without any problems or errors, but never resumes. The screen gets all black, although I get the mouse's arrow moving.
Sometimes my desktop background appears, sometimes it then disappears.Once it went to the login screen, but was really slow. All of this ends up with me having to hold down the power button until the computer shuts down.I've tried disabling hibernation, restarts, re-enable hibernation, restart... and so on.I've also run disk defragmenter and disk cleanup. I'm using WIN XP PS2 fully updated, and a Logitech Cordless Optical mouse connected via USB port. Whenever I try to Hibernate or Standby, the computer hangs, and I just see the "Preparing to Hibernate..." message.
I searched in a lot of forums, and most suggestions involved updating the Logitech mouse driver. I have the latest driver now (Setpoint 4.00, April '07), and the problem persists.
Note that when I disconnect the mouse from the USB port, I can enter and exit Hibernation or Standby modes without any problems.
I have a dell e1705 laptop and when I close the lid the system does not go into standby or hibernation mode. I do have everything set correctly and the system will go into standby or hibernation just fine if I select one of those options manually, just not automatically when I close the lid.I have tried contacting dell, but their support is horrible and got nowhere.

I have a new Dell Inspiron Media version of Win XP- a Laptop I am using as a desktop replacement. It simply won't remain on Standby for longer than 10 or 12 minutes and then goes back to desktop and then in time, the screensaver.

I've done plenty of research and found all the hot fixes and MS support articles, one catch...... They are all for x86 while I'm running' a 64x system. I want my hibernation back! Give me hibernation or give me death...well maybe not death but I'm considering downgrading back to 1GB just to get it back.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRight, got a Toshiba A30-151, had XP Home OEM installed on it when it left the factory (so no install disk), finally got round to doing a reinstall (been messing about with OSX, needed clearing off and starting from scratch anyway). Some time ago a copy of XP Pro (fully legal) was posted through my door addressed to someone else, with no return address, so i kept it. anyway, thought i'd finallly use this and installed it, but now i have no option to hibernate the laptop? The hibernate tab is not there in power management. I know it's supported, as i could hibernate it before i reformatted and reinstalled. any way round this, other than using my mate's Home OEM disk and my serial to reinstall?

I do a clean boot and try again but get the same message. Does anyone have an idea of which other process might be using the necessary file and how I can reenable Hibernation?

However, after hibernating and restarting, the boot sequence DOES NOT GIVE YOU THIS OPTION! You can force things using the F8 key, but that simply generates a screen with two choices - continue with restart from hibernation, or delete the hibernation data and go to the O/S selection menu

Restore a VPN connection after the computer's network capabilities are restored on resuming from hibernation. This is important because I have to occasionally wake thesystem from offsite using its Wake-On-LAN NIC. I've tried setting up a scheduled task to run at start-up and user logon which uses RASDIAL to dial the appropriate VPN connection, but this connection depends on the logged-in user's credentials, so it won't work at start-up. When set to have it run at user logon, it doesn't run when the computer comes out of hibernation.

But, the monitor wouldnt turn on. i thought it was the monitor at first, but i just realized its the computer. i plugged in my old computer which im on now and the monitor works fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLaptop was put in to hibernation mode, and it did not seem to go down cleanly. Now when it attempts to come up it repeatedly reboots. It gets to the Windows XP splash screen then reboots again. A blue screen flashes, but is too quick to see what it says.
Problem may be due to corrupt hiberfil.sys. Is there a way to get to the C drive using a boot CD? I tried an XP boot CD ISO that I downloaded off the net, but can't get to the C drive.

For some reason, sometimes when I start my computer, after having put it in hibernation, the screen is blank. This is as if the video card has put the monitor in standby or something. Sometimes a wake-up event, like the mouse and keyboard will fix it, but often it doesn't. In that case, I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL, then feel my way to the "restart" (and because Firefox always hangs when it quits, I have to guess when the "End Now" button comes up).

I hate when my computer goes into hibernation when im trying to use a program such as Mirc, or scanning for viruses. How do i turn off the hibernation? (when my screen burns black and my system shuts down sort of) one time i ran bearshare in the background and it didnt hibernate, but it always does if i dont have that program up.

Will seem to go through the process, switch off mouse, keyboard and monitor, then switch them on again and resume running as if nothing had happened. No consistent programs that are running at the time, no matter if had been/am connected t the internet. Nothing appears in event manager, no error messages of any kind. View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen my Windows XP pro system is made to hibernate after certain idle time period (as per the power option settings) , it is virtually hibernates but automatically gets started after some time and reboots. When I manually hibernate the system by the shut down options it hibernates. But when I try to resume it, it shows a blue screen for very short time showing some error and then prompts me to clear restoration data and continue with system reboot. In both cases, after the computer is on, an error message appears saying "system recovered from fatal error". So all in all, even if I hibernate my computer, it will have to be rebooted the next time I start it
