I've got 2 Identical computers...WinXP Pro SP2...and I'm trying to set up a wireless connection. Just got the router (Belkin F5D7230-4)set up downstairs and after alot of BS it's working fine, I've got the matching wireless PCI card upstairs and can't get any available network! As a matter of fact....I had a hell of a time installing the card...my MOBO just didn't want to recognize it! I'll break off here so anyone that's had a similar problem can reply.
I have this one computer in my house that uses a Motorola wireless adapter to connect to an 802.11g network through a router. However, recently, the computer acted up. I reformatted it, and reinstalled the adapter software. However, i cannot access its control panel to configure any options. This i have no explanation for. I have no option to make windows use its own controls instead of the software's because i have no connection.
I've been getting a couple messages whenever i turn on my computer. The first one says "Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services encountered a problem and needs to close." This message seems to trigger two problems: (1) the sound is not working, and (2) the wireless connection does not work after my computer goes into hibernation--I have to do a complete reboot to get the internet back. The second message says "Anti-Spyware | Unexpected Problem was encountered. Error #: 0x80004003.I assume these messages are related but I'm not sure.
My wireless connection disconnects randomly, usually after about half an hour.I can still ping an outside website, like yahoo. But I can not use IE or firefox. I try the following but still would not restore the browsing: repair wireless connection, disconnect and re-connect wireless. The only way to get the connection back is by log off and on.
my laptop. When i go to start > network connections i only see wireless instead of Local Area connection i would love this site if it got my local area connection to work
I unfortunately had to reinstall windows onto my laptop (dell inspiron 1520). However, a windows disk didn't come with the computer so I used the one that came with my desktop (dell xps 400). It's running fine and all that jazz but I am clueless on how to set up my wireless connection. When I first bought the computer the first time I opened it it automatically picked up the wireless connection and all I had to do is type in a password and such. Now I guess I'm starting from scratch... There's no webcam software on it or anything like it came with. The resolution doesnt even fit the same after adjusting it. (It's close but still a little stretched out)
XP has stopped connecting to my wireless connecter "Wireless Network Connection Not Connected" Device manager says everything is normal, and I can identify other local wireless networks. XP recognizes that the connector is there, but it won't hook up. I have disabled and reenabled the wireless connector and reloaded all of the Broadcom software. I tried to do an XP repair, but I am using SP3. The slipstream recovery disc that I made is asking for a password to get into XP, but there isn't any. I've verified this with three different password cracking programs. Everything else is working; I am on an Ethernet connection now.
how to force XP to connect or know what drivers I need to reload that are used to connect to the wireless connector besides the Broadcom's that I have already reloaded? I really don't want to do a complete XP reinstall.
I reinstalled windows xp sp3 on a old laptop. Everything went fine except for internet connectivity. I have a wireless network to which I connect several computers and devices and everything works like it should. When I try to connect my laptop to this network, it fails.Every 5 seconds it goes from not connected to acquiring network address.I am sure that the key is correct, I am sure that my router is belkin router is wireless G and so is the Ralink RT2500 card. I am also sure that I have not white listed MAC addresses so my laptop won't connect. Basically I have done every simple thing that perhaps could be causing the problem.
Is there anyway to enable your wireless network connection and disable it with the starting & stopping of your web browser (IE 6.0), Win XP Pro, service pack 2. I like my wireless connection to be disabled when I am not surfing the web. Can I automate this task some how?
I can connect to the internet, but I don't know when I get kicked off. The display on my taskbar always shows it is disconnected. When you pull up the screen is says " non connected" but it actually is, then about 15 mins later it kicks me off and I have to re connect manually. This is very time consuming and is a pest. I have tried restoring my registry to an eariler point and have checked for spyware and virus.
My son had his Dell laptop at college and was using their wireless network successfully. He came home last week and tried using his laptop on our home wireless network (w/Linksys router). He said he was not able to always connect so he tried to set up (configure, repair) the wireless connection himself (always a dangerous thing to do).Now he gets no internet at all (IE always goes into 'offline' mode) under Windows XP home.I've tried to trouble shoot the connection but so far I have been unsuccessful. The laptop can see the wireless network (it shows as available and connected). There is something wrong with the network connection that IE uses but I don't know how to go about fixing it.
I am using a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 Laptop running Windows XP.I restarted the laptop, and was prompted to either start Windows normally or start uing last know best configuration-I chose to start with last known best configuration. Now when I go to Network Connections, there is no Wireless Network Connection Icon. However, when I go to Device Manager, the card is present under Network Adapters(Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card), and it states it is working properly. How do I get the icon back into Network Connections, so I can use my wireless again?
In the Wireless Network Connection Properties box under the Wireless Networks tab, there is a checkbox available for "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings." In the past this box was checked and stayed checked all the time even if I rebooted, restarted, etc.. Starting a few days ago whenever I reboot, startup, etc. by default this box is now always unchecked and I have to go in and recheck it each time. What's making this box uncheck itself and how do I get it to stay checked again?
I got my computer fixed See thread I am having another slight problem. I don't think that this problem was necessarily caused because of the others issues I have recently fixed because I have had this issue in the passed but it just seemed to fix itself. I have a HP zd7000us laptop with wireless capabilities. However I the system does not even show any wireless network available. My desktop in my house has no problems going online with the wireless, neither does my psp for that matter. It's like the computer doesn't even know it's there. I went to the hardware wizard on my system and it says the wireless card is working properly but it will not see any available wireless networks.
I have found in Group Policy that there is a policy called Turn off Microsoft Peer-to-Peer Networking Services and is located under Computer Configuration Administrative TemplatesNetworkMicrosoft Peer-to-Peer. I have enabled this policy and applied to a test Windows XP SP2 machine. I have found that on this test machine I can still create a new ad hoc wireless network. how I can prevent users from creating ad hoc networks? Or why this policy is not working the way that i thought it would?
I have a Gateway laptop running XP Media Center edition that connects wirelessly to a Linksys router. It works fine that way, but when I plug the ethernet cable in directly to the DSL modem and shut down the router, I get the "page cannot be displayed" message, even though the icon shows that I am connected and the lights are green. I know it is just something with my settings, but cannot get it figured out. I would like this to work, because a direct connection downloads faster and sometimes the wireless does not work due to interference.
i recently had windows xp media center edition on my dell inspiron 6000 laptop. Since i had many viruses i rebooted it with windows xp home edition. now when i try to connect to the internet using the wireless client like i used to, it doesnt let me. it isnt an option in the network connections. can someone help me because i need my internet running asap.
I install windows xp, I was missing some drivers so i was able to get what i needed and my computer is running just fine but the wireless network connection is reading in Spanish. I've already gone to the regional settings and made sure it reads English, there is no other part of my computer that i have come across that reads in spanish except this section.
I'm working on a Dell laptop for a friend Latitude D630 running Windows XP Pro SP2. Seems the only place he can connect to a wireless network is at his home.I now have the laptop trying to figure what the problem is. Here's what I found. I was able to connect to the internet via a wireless at my place. First on another friend's wireless unsecured connection. I was also able to connect via my own connection a WEP secured connection. Connectivity lasted for about 30 minutes. I was suddenly disconnected with a message saying the there was no connectivity via my WEP connection. I then tried the unsecured connection and was able to connect to the net at least for a few minutes. Since that time I've had some trouble connecting. I've opened a command prompt and entered ipconfig / release, then ipconfig /renew. It works on the unsecured wireless connection, but not on the WEP network.
I have a local area connection icon when i go into network connections--it was automatically set up with the laptop, and there used to be another icon i could click on to activate and select between detectable wi-fi's. This icon has mysteriously gone missing, does anyone know how to get it back? I tried a wireless connection setup and it didn't work.
Computers are 2 identical Dell Latitude D600 with XP Pro.Dell #1 was given to me. It had never had ANY updates applied, had 56 Trojans and a bunch of other problems. I took it to the local library and used their WiFi connection to download Grisoft AVG, Ad-Aware and Microsoft Malware Removal to clean it up. I then was given an identical used Dell #2. it was at the SP2 level, so I again went to the library and updated this one with 85 XP updates. Then, as a learning experience, I restored XP Pro on Dell #1 from a Dell CD, P/N 1R594 and then installed SP2 on it. All went well.I then tried to use WiFi on Dell #1. I tried to create a new connection, but when I clicked on finish nothing got created.I looked at Dell #2 which has a working WiFi connection and noticed that when I click on All Programs I see an entry for Dell Wireless, containing 2 itemsDell Wireless WLAN card Readme and Dell Wireless WLAN card Utility This entry does not appear on Dell #1 even though I used it on a Wireless network prior to the XP PRO CD restore today.
On my Acer TravelMate 2480, I reformatted it and reinstalled Windows XP. There is not wireless icon. I went to the Acer webpage and downloaded the drivers I guessed I might need. When I try to update drivers on the Acer, and choose my flash drive stick, the computer doesn't see any drivers on the flash drive. I will probably end up having to pay to have the whole thing redone the right way
I have a question if someone can answer it for me. I have a laptop running windows xp and i want to access it from my university computer to do programming n stuff. I am using my landlords wireless connection. I tried to use the windows xp remote desktop connection but i think due to the firewall settings of the router, it won't let me conect to it. I was wandering if there is a way to connect to my computer without asking my landlord to change some setting in the router or something.
When I was reformatting my computer i deleted a part of my drive that i think was really important. It was drive E:. After the reformatting I tried to go on the internet. I tried to go on wireless but, I didn't have a wireless internet icon for my wireless card so I plugged it in. Still i could not go on the Internet. Then I tried to open some programs and half of them would load the others I would get error reports from. I think the reason it doesn't work is because of the drive I accidently deleted. Is there any way that I could get the data back without taking it to a repair shop?
I have two computers and a printer in a wireless network both computers using XP.The master which is a Dell Dimension is operating correctly. The slave which is a Dell Inspiron laptop will not connect to the network correctly.Trying to repair the Wireless Network Connection in "Network Connections" results in a message cannot complete task of correcting IP address,Can I correct the IP adress manually or is there another solution?
I have Win XP Media Center 2005 and have added my Outlook Express to the Start Programs Folder. However, when booting up, it attempts to open OE before opening my Wireless Network Connection and naturally, it can't do the OE Send & Receive when opening. Is there any way to regulate what order programs in the Start Programs are opened, i.e., to open the Wireless Network Connection first?
The Network Setup Wizard tells me that it found disconnected network hardware. My Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter wireless connection is apparently disconnected. Any ideas on how to rectify this?
WinXP SP3; A limited account is unable to access the internet via wireless connection unless an administrator account has logged on to the wireless network. Works Ok after administrator account has logged on and established link. Our church wants to set up a computer in our library for visitors to use to access the internet. A hard wire connection to the router works with the Visitor Limited Account without the Administrator account being logged on. Running a hard wire CAT5 cable to the library isnt an option. The computers wireless adapter is Belkin G Plus MIMO USB adapter. The DSL Modem/Router is a Siemens SE 567.
after having good wireless connection,my desk top PC shows no wireless networks in range, although the wireless adaptor is shown as working, and connection to the router is ok from my laptop, how can I reset my desk top PC?,no,restore facillity available
Generic Host Process Crash So I have this problem and it's been driving me crazy for some time now. It seems that "randomly" when I lose connection to my wireless access point, I will get a Generic Host Process for Win32 crash. I have disable the forced shutdown that usually occurs after this happens, but since it renders the system mostly unusable, I have to reboot anyway. What's odd is that it doesn't happen every time I lose connectivity to the network.
