I just purchased a new HP computer yesterday. I have a linksys wireless connection. I cannot connect to the internet. I use microsoft explorer. I have been on the phone with Linksys, HP and Netgear for four hours to no avail.
View 3 RepliesI had to set my XP back to factory defaults (long story) and of course when I did that it wiped out all my stuff. I have my main computer hooked to a wireless router via a cable. The computer that I had to set back to factor defaults in the one with the wireless card. I reinstalled the wireless card software and it it talking to the router but I can't get to the internet.

It was like that all day yesterday then last night it finally connected, now today it won'tagain. I'm sure there's a virus that has corrupted something, I ran grisoft avg last night and it said 0viruses...then today 2 seperate times I got a message saying i hada virus and to click heal and i did and it said healed.

This is what is happening, I can connect to the internet if both my ethernet and wireless are connected. If I disconnect the ethernet cable I cannot connect to the internet but I can ping websites (I pinged google with zero packets lost). The wireless connection seems to be configured properly. I followed the advice of the sticky above and with my "refreshed" XP Home Installation on my Dell Desktop, I can't connect to the Internet. The "find a connection" Wizard seems to want to find a dial-up connection and nothing in the way of broadband. I use a Linksys Wireless G PCI Adapter card. The reinstallation did not wipe out any documents or user created files, so am wondering if there is a place in the old Windows files that I can use to get my old connection?

I have a Motorola Cable Modem, and a Motorola Wireless Router, which seems to be working fine. I can connect to the internet on the Laptop. However, the PC is the one that cannont. I'm not sure what is happening, but I've tried rebooting the PC and unpluging the modem for few seconds, but nothing yet. The Local Area Connection says-"Acquiring network address." And my IP address is currently 0.0.0.0

View 11 Replies View RelatedAfter long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.

Yes I am connecting the phone line properly because it works on my sony vaio laptop also when I connect online.i am able to connect on the vaio but not on the toshiba. It keeps telling me there is no dial tone. what is the meaning of this. one last question. On the toshiba laptop there is a blue line running from the top to the bottom of the screen. Is that something bad? is the screen going through?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway FX6000 that came with Vista. I have managed to change the OS to Windows XP Pro 64 but I probably have outdated drivers. I am unable to connect to the internet with that machine using XP. I do have Linux Ubuntu installed as well and and using that OS I can connect to the internet just fine so I don't think it's a DSL Modem, Router, NIC or cable problem, it's most likely a driver issue. When I look into XP Device Manager, the Network Adapter shows as 1394 Net Adapter but under "Other Devices" ethernet controller, PCI simple and SM Bus I see big yellow questions marks.Will I need to update those yellow question mark devices and if so what's the best approach keeping in mind that on that box, for XP, I don't have a working internet connection.

Works Ok after administrator account has logged on and established link.Our church wants to set up a computer in our library for visitors to use to access the internet. A hard wire connection to the router works with the Visitor Limited Account without the Administrator account being logged on. Running a hard wire CAT5 cable to the library isn�t an option. It was a fake site that looked like Internet Explore virus protection, and it said to start scan now. I didn't and just closed it and thought everything was fine. The next day I tried to log on and it just went back to the log on screen. It said logging off. I kept on trying and it did the same thing over and over. I then had my brother look at it, people told me I had a virus from Limewire or nVidia.com and that I should do a full reformat right away, it would only do a quick one and it still didn't help it and when I tried to do a full one I would get an error that says I should put it in safe mode and disable components or something along those lines.I got a new hard drive, but then I had no mouse or internet. I installed my mother board CD. I restarted it thinking it would say new hardware found. I have reinstalled Windows and reinstalled my mother board CD, I tried my mouse on another PC and it worked fine.

The problem is my wireless connection shows that I am connected at full strength but web connection will not show up. I ultimately have to put the computer on standby and then turn it back on before wireless will actually work. I thought it might be a problem with my router but it happens anywhere I go, with any wireless connection. My spouse has a laptop as well and he is able to connect everytime right away. Also just recently I plugged my earphones into my computer and they play through the phones as well as the speakers. Usually gateway has great help but not this time.

I updated the wireless adapter driver, I also changed the channel in which my laptop connects to. I read some articles that state the problem but after following almost all of them, I couldn't pull off anything. It takes many attempts to connect to my university wireless router. I would emphasize on the wake-up. I have 2 other laptops and they connect in a speed of light. All of the laptops have Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/BG Network connection and the same latest driver.

What is it about 2000 networking that is the trick to this? I have it set up to obtain an IP address automatically. By the way it is connecting to a wireless access point, not directly to the router. The access point is piggybacked off the main router.
