I am on the computer in one room, networking with a computer in another room.I know you can export registry files onto your hard drive. Do you then have the other computer's regedit import that file?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI exported a backup of the registry to the desktop, and now when I remove that registry back up file from the desktop to another folder, the wallpaper disappears.I tried to import it again from that another folder but it didn't make any difference. I don't want to keep the reg file on my Desktop. How can I restore the registry so my wallpaper shows up, and delete the reg file from the desktop.

What are they ways to export the emails (including the ones in my personalized folders) to the new PC. When I export I loose the dates and attachments, which is logical as a windows comma file can not support attachment.On the subject are there any friendly ways or archiving email, preferably in the folders I have created, I know Outlook has an archive but could never work out how to open them again.
I recently helped someone save the documents off of their computer after it crashed (it was missing a Windows file. I tried the repair command and it wouldn't work, so I decided to save the files and reformat the hard drive).I plugged the hard drive into a working computer and pulled all the documents off of it (VERY slowly) onto an external hard drive.
Every once in awhile I wouldn't be able to pull a picture or document off because of a cyclic redundancy check error. I just moved on and saved what I could. I assumed it was because the hard drive was already bad so I just moved what I could.
i screwed up my registry, and of all things it was the keyboard driver or something, so theres no hope of fixing it on my computer. ive got the drive hooked up as the slave on a different computer, but i cant figure out how to edit the registry on my drive rather than the primary drive. is there any editors that will open it from a file? any way of decompiling it? theres got to be some way to edit it. also, they are both xp.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell computer where one of the loading .dll files came up 'missing' one day, so it won't boot. I want to get all the photos and other docs off the hard drive. I had downloaded one version of linux and was able to see the files on the internal hard drive, but was unable to copy them to a memory stick or external hard drive. Now I've downloaded ubuntu and booted off a memory stick... this time, it's telling me that the internal hard drive has all kinds of bad sectors and won't let me access any of the files on there.

I can see the old hard drive in the E drive and it appears that all the contents are there by the size of the hard drive (same as when I had it in the old laptop) but I can only see, actually view, a very small percentage of the drive.
My goal: I want to transfer all old music, word documents and photos from old laptop into new laptop.
My Dell Dimension 4600 is not sensing the hard drive (Seagate ST3120026A Ultra ATA) on boot-up. This happened on first start-up after I used a utility to find and delete temp files and rid the registry of obsolete links. (I know, .... my wife has already said it several times.) I can mount that drive as the second hard disk in my daughter's PC and read every bit -- no problems at all.I'm using an Ultra ATA cable, and I've tried the drive jumper in both Cable Sense and Master. Sounds like the drive spins up, but the bios just doesn't think it's there.

I need to export these results to a user friendly format (preferably xls) so that I have the name of the file, the location, the size and the date modified. How do I go about doing this? I am also interested in creating a tree diagram that will show the entire structure of my drive, i.e. think something like the explore's bar view folders option with expand all. MS DOS PROMP will give you such an option but it's not really user friendly.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am unable to successfully boot up Win2K on my one hard drive because Symantec Ghost is failing to load. Specifically, the error message reads that the Logon User Interface Failed: File c:/Program Files/Symantec/Norton/Ghost/ginastub.dll has failed to load. There is no other option but to restart and it just comes back to this message. All support I have found about this message points to deleting the ginastub.dll Registry key. However, I can't not get to that hard drive's registry because (1) windows does not load, (2) since windows does not completely load, I can not edit the registry through the network. So, I am left with adding the HD as a slave to another computer and editing the Registry that way. Does anyone know how that can be done, editing a secondary hard drive's Registry?

System info: Win XP Pro. For security use KIS 09 and Webroot SpySweeper (henceforth, WSS). This is my desktop. Laptop the same except for Win XP home.
After I upgraded the WSS to their latest version (6.1.0.128) I had problems only on desktop and only with MSWord. After two days of working on desktop problem I discovered it was the WSS upgrade, as no problems if WSS shut down or removed via Windows add/remove.
I'm having a problem with installing service pack 2 and can't seem to fix it.I formatted my hard drive last night and installed Windows XP Professional. I then downloaded SP2 and started to install it, the install gets as far as "Updating the Registry Keys" and then it just sits there... It doesn't crash, doesn't start not responding or anything like that, it just sits there and does nothing. Last night i left it sitting for 3 hours and it still hadn't done anything, this morning it's been sitting for about 55 minutes and still nothing.Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

Registry damaged and corrupted. To fix this problem: open IE and type www.registryxp.com Once you load the web page, close this message window. After you install the cleaner program you will not recieve any more reminders or pop ups like this one". I went to that page and it wants to charge me to sign up for a registry cleaner. This box pops up every 2 minutes or so . I've tried other registry cleaners and pop up blockers, spyware removal, deleting cookies, add/ remove programs, everything I can think of but to no avail. I know that it's hiding somewhere but I'm not too computer literate to go to far into my system without the proper help.

Whenever I try to boot in safe mode, or any mode, I get a blue screen that reads:i did some searching on this forum and found a thread that mentioned taking the drive out of the problem computer and slaving it into a different machine to repair the registry. Unfortunately, for one drive when I put it in the machine it gives me a missing hal.dll error and when I put the other drive in it gives me a ntrdl missing error. is there any way I can force the machine to boot to my SATA drive when the IDE drive is in there? I suspect it is trying to boot to the old drives when I install them.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed lately that the files that are in the attached picture that have the numbers and then _backup just recently showed up on my c: drive and my d: drive. Now they have attached themselves on all my external western digital passport drives drives too.
I cant delete them, they say they are locked. I have also downloaded unlocker 1.8.7 and it wasn't able to delete the files either. I have run system mechanics, prevx malware, kaspersky nitvirus program and didn't find anything wrong. The haven't caused any problems that I know of except I wasn't able to format my d: drive.

View 6 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine's hard drive was damaged so I replaced it and installed Windows XP on the new Hard drive. This was fine and no problem. In an effort to salvage some of his files from damaged hard drive I connected it as slave and windows recognised it with out a problem. Now the tricky bit! I was able to access "My Documents" on the old HD but when I tried to open his folder(for his profile) I got an "Access denied" message. He then told me that he had a password on his previous windows profile. Since Windows is not booting from this HD and I don't have an option to enter a password, is there a way to access this folder?

I looked at some messages for hardware, but they are for Win98 and Me. Says problems with Win2K, etc. Are there any other programs other than xxcopy that will work with Win2K? I was familiar with Ghost, but only with Win98SE. Would there be a version of Ghost that would work now?
