I have removed a hard drive from a computer and replaced it with a new one and the old one is now in an external enclosure.My issue arrises when trying to view the files. I HAVE been able to get ownership of the files but only one folder at a time rather than the whole drive and its file structure, so I can get to the security tab in properties.

Now my 80 gig hard drive only shows as 40 and I can't think of anyway to get it back without reformatting the entire hard drive

System info: Win XP Pro. For security use KIS 09 and Webroot SpySweeper (henceforth, WSS). This is my desktop. Laptop the same except for Win XP home.
After I upgraded the WSS to their latest version (6.1.0.128) I had problems only on desktop and only with MSWord. After two days of working on desktop problem I discovered it was the WSS upgrade, as no problems if WSS shut down or removed via Windows add/remove.
I am running an 2.2gh Athlon 64 with Media Center 2005 and a gig of Ram and an integrated 200x Raedon mobo. The system idle process is at 99-80 percent most of the time. However, at the bottom it says I'm running around 75-100% and when I go to the graph it shows really high as well. I just reformatted my enitre drive via recovery disc to try to fix this. (Also and i didnt want to try to uninstall the beta 2 of vista so it wasnt for the sole purpose of fixing the percent thing) I dont have a duel boot anymore and it has ran this way since the start AND since the reformat. Too bad i didnt notice this when i bought it.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI got the win32/rootkit virus, tried to reinstall XP pro and had a tons of problems now when I try to install xp all it will see is 132GB of my 500GB drive. I have two 500MB drives and for whatever reason it will only see 132GB or either drive.WHat can I do to get XP to see the entire 500GB so I can reformat the HDD's and start all over from scratch? I've tried and tried and treid but I can't get XP to see the whold hard drive and now I'm at a complete loss as to what I can do next?Is there some kind of program I can download that will restore my hard drives to new condition with nothing on them so I can reinstall XP from scratch so it will see both hard drives and all 500GB of each drive?

But, I was wondering if there was a way to take ownership of all the files on the computer without having to do each one individually? Yesterday I had to get into one of them (A security issue!(another story)) And eventually I found out that the reason I was getting the message
'Access Denied'
Was because know one actually owned them. Once I took ownership of them, I could then add my user to the permissions list, and get into them. (I have to do this for every profile and subfolder in there.)
I want to take an Image of the entire Hard Disk and make a CD of it. My new machine runs vista (your rules forbid me to tell you what I think of Vista by now). Vista insisted on taking ownership of the files on the disk before it would let me touch them let alone copy them. I let it do its stuff and it changed ownership to the administrator on vista(incidentally the same username and password as teh admin on the old machine).So far so good but then a bit of good luck struck. A friend of a friend fixed the old laptop for me - it had been a blown relay and a faulty power supply. He fixed the relay and I ordered a new power supply. Beers exchanged hands
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using XP home and just added my old ntfs disk to my system. I can't access certain files because of a, "access denied", error message. The disk has tons of bad sectors on it and I can't take it with me into safe mode so I can take ownership of it with the admin account. Any suggestions on how to get to my ntfs files without going into safe mode? In normal mode, I don't have an administrator account, just my account with my name which has administrator rights. I know the admin account is still there, but I can't get into safe mode with the ntfs disk.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a pentium 3 933 mhz with a 40 gb hd. the hd had a 50/50 partition and i wanted to reformat the entire disk then make my own partitions and then re-install xp.
what i did:
1. i used a program called killdisk to wipe out the hd
2. used win98 fdisk to set partitions
3. plugged the hd in my other comp as a slave and used a pirate copy of xp pro to install on the drive
The hd wont load on my computer after setting it back to master drive with xp pro on it, all it says is 'verifying dmi pool data" my other comp asks me what OS to boot with every time, even though only one is present.
I have recently fallen victim to a nasty virus which tried to destroy my entire operating system. It kept sending me pop ups via IE and I guess I downloaded it off a facebook video to which it attached itself.kaboob or something. Anyway, I survived but haven't been able to restore my desktop function ability. First it said'restore my active desktop' but I couldn't. Finally I managed to restore about one eighth of my picture but can't get any further. The rest of my screen is white and that's where it stands now.
