It kept sending me pop ups via IE and I guess I downloaded it off a facebook video to which it attached itself.kaboob or something. Anyway, I survived but haven't been able to restore my desktop function ability. First it said'restore my active desktop' but I couldn't. Finally I managed to restore about one eighth of my picture but can't get any further. The rest of my screen is white and that's where it stands now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer didn't come with an XP CD, just the manufacturer's restore CD which will wipe out all I've done in the last four years. So, if I backup (copy) all the files on my C drive, except the Windows folder (assuming that's where all the OS files are), to an external drive, then run the restore CD which will revert the computer back to the way it was when I bought it. Then download and install SP2 and copy the original files back to C.

View 17 Replies View RelatedI have a WindowsXP. My computer won't let me open any programs and won't download any programs either. I've tried to open Spybot but it immediately dissapoears. Also i've tried to download Hijackthis and my computer won't let it download. Soon after the download window dissapears as well. My internet is working fine, it's just the programs that won't seem to open up. Am i infected? If there isn't any solution should i just re-format my computer? Don't know how else to show without the log.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI suspect I have an infection on my PC (win2000) but none of my tools are finding anything. TO recap, I did have the msblast/sasser virus but removed it a while back. Since then, I've had the infamous lsass.exe shutdown. Luckily, I have zone alarm firewall so the shutdown only occurs if I disconnect the firewall.I want to fix this once and for all so I downloaded W2k Service Pack 4 and the 'RPC' MS fix (Kb823980-x8-enu.exe). I thought that would fix the problem but no.I've also run other tools like stinger, vcleaner, spybot, adware, antivirus software. I keep the versions/dat files updated.At this point I'm not sure where to start so I'm posting the log results from hijack this. One thing I noticed is that svchost.exe process occurs 3 times. I seem to recall seeing cmd.exe pop up for a second and a 3rd occurence of svchost.exe followed right after.

I have two 500MB drives and for whatever reason it will only see 132GB or either drive.WHat can I do to get XP to see the entire 500GB so I can reformat the HDD's and start all over from scratch? I've tried and tried and treid but I can't get XP to see the whold hard drive and now I'm at a complete loss as to what I can do next?Is there some kind of program I can download that will restore my hard drives to new condition with nothing on them so I can reinstall XP from scratch so it will see both hard drives and all 500GB of each drive?

When this CD is put on a brand new computer, it should, without human intervention recreate the same Hard Disk info including partitions, OS, and any software that was installed such as, Antivirus, Databases, programming environments( C, Turbo C++, .NET , Java etc.). I don't even use Internet Explorer,I am currently using mozilla firefox as my browser, so in the hell do I get Internet Explorer pop-ups.Then when you try to close out of them the entire screen goes white and it won't let you close out the pop-up.Example: RUNDLL, everytime I log-on I get this message: Title Bar says RUNDLL then it reads: Error Loading C:WINDOWSsystem32atgban.dll. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a pentium 3 933 mhz with a 40 gb hd. the hd had a 50/50 partition and i wanted to reformat the entire disk then make my own partitions and then re-install xp.
what i did:
1. i used a program called killdisk to wipe out the hd
2. used win98 fdisk to set partitions
3. plugged the hd in my other comp as a slave and used a pirate copy of xp pro to install on the drive
The hd wont load on my computer after setting it back to master drive with xp pro on it, all it says is 'verifying dmi pool data" my other comp asks me what OS to boot with every time, even though only one is present.
I guess I have a few options (as I have backed up my entire hard drive before the problem started), including hiriing someone if need be.
System info: Win XP Pro. For security use KIS 09 and Webroot SpySweeper (henceforth, WSS). This is my desktop. Laptop the same except for Win XP home.
After I upgraded the WSS to their latest version (6.1.0.128) I had problems only on desktop and only with MSWord. After two days of working on desktop problem I discovered it was the WSS upgrade, as no problems if WSS shut down or removed via Windows add/remove.
I am running an 2.2gh Athlon 64 with Media Center 2005 and a gig of Ram and an integrated 200x Raedon mobo. The system idle process is at 99-80 percent most of the time. However, at the bottom it says I'm running around 75-100% and when I go to the graph it shows really high as well. I just reformatted my enitre drive via recovery disc to try to fix this. (Also and i didnt want to try to uninstall the beta 2 of vista so it wasnt for the sole purpose of fixing the percent thing) I dont have a duel boot anymore and it has ran this way since the start AND since the reformat. Too bad i didnt notice this when i bought it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.

I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?
