I recently noticed that my free space on hard drive has been eroded and my used space has been increasing. I have not added any software. Much to my dismay I cannot figure out why this would occur. We did make recovery disks and removed our partition some weeks ago. It seems our C drive is using up space without any explanation. Ran many different anti virus and spyware software and they did not detect anything.

I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT not to any great extent. The only connection I can c is this copying Dig pix straight to disc...Am I right or is there sumthing else going on

In the past I would suggest manually checking the sizes of all of your folders so you know where to begin the hunt but now there is a great utility called WinDirStat that does the work for you. Well now, when I go to reinstall, it will not automatically start so I clicked on my computer and dvd-rw Drive (E and there are no files, in fact it states that my my file system is CDFS and the CDA Default - Full It says all space used 672 MB and Free Space 0 Bytes

My computer is about 2 years old. In those two years, I had to re-install Windows XP and everything else on my computer...for reasons unknown...I recently performed a New Installation of Windows XP on my computer. I don't have alot of things installed on my computer. The total space all the programs in my Add and Remove programs file takes up is only 1GB. Since I had to start over and re-install everything and my programs only add up to 1GB, Shouldn't I have more free space ?
i wanted to copy a cd image 4.18GB ISO format from partition F: NTFS 9GB free to partition D: (FAT32 12GB free space) and windows gives me that crap there is not enough space and i should do a disk clean up.
I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
I've noticed sometimes that the Free Space on my harddrives won't reflect changes I've made. For example, on my 28.6gb F: drive, I had about 586mb free. I just deleted a video file of about 700 mb, so it should be up to about 1.2 gb. Oddly enough, its still at 586mb.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two hard disks in my computer. one is a 40gb and other 160gb.the 40gb HDD has been partitioned into two @roughly 20Gb each, with xp installed on one of them.I'm running windows XP sp3 which is installed in the C: drive(roughly 20Gb). The problem tat i face is that windows reports the free size to be only 988mb.When i check into the file properties of all the files it reports to be around 5GB, i have no idea where the remaning 15gb is gone.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was downloading some file, and while I was downloading, it said I've got a very low amount of free disk space, which was then about ~50MB, and going down (drive C: ). I tried deleting some files (in total about 400MB), but it showed the same amount of free space, and kept going down. Ultimately, my download stopped because of this, and the free space is gone.I don't have System Restore enabled, it's disabled, on all drives (C: & D: ), and I don't think I have some kind of an automated backup program. Plus, my two drives are formatted in NTFS, not FAT. if that helps. I haven't tried to reset yet, but besides reset, is there anything else I should try?

C has some Dell stuff, but everything else, including Windows, is on D. When I tried to install an update for SP2, I got an error message that the drive needs 1 more MB of free space. There's only 732KB free on C, but 14GB free on D, so I suspect the update is trying to go to C. Is there any way I can direct updates to D? Or, can the HDD be re-partitioned without losing what's on it?

Yet everything is gone, and they wouldn't go in the recycle bin so its no being stored there. I got a tool called SpaceMonger that looks at free space and nothing is taking up that room. Its specd at 40Gb, although in the 'properties' it states 33Gb actual capacity. BUT, If I 'explore' the hard drive, I come up with around 11Gb used. This includes all hidden folders as well (pagefile, hiberfil etc.) as well as the usual Windows, and Docs & Settings etc. I have only used 11Gb, 'properties' tell me I've used 29.2Gb, and only have 3.8Gb left I have used several anti virus scanners, and spyware scanners - but they make no difference to the capacity shown. It says that TOTAL SIZE = 39 GB And Free Space = 5 GB Which means that the size of all files on C is 34 GB But when I select all files including Hidden files and Right Click> Properties, its size of all files is only 27 GB.I did clear recycle bin and disk defragmenter C, but still the same. So why is that?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded loads of music video's with a view to burning them onto DVD using my Nero 7 DVD Burning Programes. I had 75% free space on my hard drive at that time. Many of these video's were flv format so I had to download and install a flv to mpg video converter programme. After converting the video's from flv to mpg so that Nero would accept them and making up the music video compilation using Nero 7 I noticed that I had only 4% free space left on my hard drive. So I couldn't get on with the second compilation. Nero told me I needed more hard disc space. I then deleted all the music video's I no longer needed, both the flv versions and the converted mpg versions

I have deleted all my music video and audio files/folders which were taking up even more space.
