Have a P4, 3.0, 200g HD, Xp Home. 2 partitions. I deleted and moved files, computer
tells me that I have the same amount of capacity on first partition before I deleted and moved files. I have gotten rid of over 30g of files. Where is my free space
I recently noticed that my free space on hard drive has been eroded and my used space has been increasing. I have not added any software. Much to my dismay I cannot figure out why this would occur. We did make recovery disks and removed our partition some weeks ago. It seems our C drive is using up space without any explanation. Ran many different anti virus and spyware software and they did not detect anything.

I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT not to any great extent. Two times now, at a seemingly random times (both times round about 11:00AM), all of a sudden, loads (and I mean tens of thousands) of TMP files, looking like 0fb149fbcb12b2799cfd1c55fc08b4e9.TMP are pumped into my system32 folder. In a matter of 15 or 20 minutes, this may generated as much as 5GB of used diskspace. Some are 0K, some are 91K, but other than those tow, sizes seem to be constant.

The problem tat i face is that windows reports the free size to be only 988mb.When i check into the file properties of all the files it reports to be around 5GB, i have no idea where the remaning 15gb is gone.

Well now, when I go to reinstall, it will not automatically start so I clicked on my computer and dvd-rw Drive (E and there are no files, in fact it states that my my file system is CDFS and the CDA Default - Full It says all space used 672 MB and Free Space 0 Bytes
This morning when I woke up I noticed a very wierd and serious problem. I checked my C: drive and noticed that I only had 500mb left, I know for a fact that I had 700+/-mb left last night before going to bed. Thinking this was a mistake I left it and carried on normally. I was then chatting in IRC when the "Low Disk Space" warning popped up. I now had 100mb left.

I was downloading some file, and while I was downloading, it said I've got a very low amount of free disk space, which was then about ~50MB, and going down (drive C: ). I tried deleting some files (in total about 400MB), but it showed the same amount of free space, and kept going down. Ultimately, my download stopped because of this, and the free space is gone.I don't have System Restore enabled, it's disabled, on all drives (C: & D: ), and I don't think I have some kind of an automated backup program. Plus, my two drives are formatted in NTFS, not FAT. if that helps. I haven't tried to reset yet, but besides reset, is there anything else I should try?

C has some Dell stuff, but everything else, including Windows, is on D. When I tried to install an update for SP2, I got an error message that the drive needs 1 more MB of free space. There's only 732KB free on C, but 14GB free on D, so I suspect the update is trying to go to C. Is there any way I can direct updates to D? Or, can the HDD be re-partitioned without losing what's on it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently helped someone save the documents off of their computer after it crashed (it was missing a Windows file. I tried the repair command and it wouldn't work, so I decided to save the files and reformat the hard drive).I plugged the hard drive into a working computer and pulled all the documents off of it (VERY slowly) onto an external hard drive.
Every once in awhile I wouldn't be able to pull a picture or document off because of a cyclic redundancy check error. I just moved on and saved what I could. I assumed it was because the hard drive was already bad so I just moved what I could.
It says that TOTAL SIZE = 39 GB And Free Space = 5 GB Which means that the size of all files on C is 34 GB But when I select all files including Hidden files and Right Click> Properties, its size of all files is only 27 GB.I did clear recycle bin and disk defragmenter C, but still the same. So why is that?
