View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently noticed that my free space on hard drive has been eroded and my used space has been increasing. I have not added any software. Much to my dismay I cannot figure out why this would occur. We did make recovery disks and removed our partition some weeks ago. It seems our C drive is using up space without any explanation. Ran many different anti virus and spyware software and they did not detect anything.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was downloading some file, and while I was downloading, it said I've got a very low amount of free disk space, which was then about ~50MB, and going down (drive C: ). I tried deleting some files (in total about 400MB), but it showed the same amount of free space, and kept going down. Ultimately, my download stopped because of this, and the free space is gone.I don't have System Restore enabled, it's disabled, on all drives (C: & D: ), and I don't think I have some kind of an automated backup program. Plus, my two drives are formatted in NTFS, not FAT. if that helps. I haven't tried to reset yet, but besides reset, is there anything else I should try?

Your hard drive is suddenly full and you are left wondering where did all my free space go? Now you must begin the task of deleting old files and folders to reclaim space but where do you start? In the past I would suggest manually checking the sizes of all of your folders so you know where to begin the hunt but now there is a great utility called WinDirStat that does the work for you. After inspecting a drive you are shown exactly how much data is in each folder, what file types are taking up the most space and even a visual representation of the files on your disk
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Win XP Pro on a Dell Inspiron 8100. The hard drive is partitioned into 2 drives: C and D. C has some Dell stuff, but everything else, including Windows, is on D. When I tried to install an update for SP2, I got an error message that the drive needs 1 more MB of free space. There's only 732KB free on C, but 14GB free on D, so I suspect the update is trying to go to C. Is there any way I can direct updates to D? Or, can the HDD be re-partitioned without losing what's on it?

My computer is about 2 years old. In those two years, I had to re-install Windows XP and everything else on my computer...for reasons unknown...I recently performed a New Installation of Windows XP on my computer. I don't have alot of things installed on my computer. The total space all the programs in my Add and Remove programs file takes up is only 1GB. Since I had to start over and re-install everything and my programs only add up to 1GB, Shouldn't I have more free space ?
In my E: Drive I'v found the free space getting reduce when i access its folders.I'v run a scan using ESET Smart security and a-squared Anti-malware while runing the scan the free space increased by 100 MB but the problem persist even after the complete scan.

I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
I've noticed sometimes that the Free Space on my harddrives won't reflect changes I've made. For example, on my 28.6gb F: drive, I had about 586mb free. I just deleted a video file of about 700 mb, so it should be up to about 1.2 gb. Oddly enough, its still at 586mb.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNothing else on the partition except XP. Swap file, different partition. Apps, different partition. When I loaded XP on this partition perhaps a year ago, it had plenty of space. Now it's full. I've run the usual XP disk cleanup helper, deleted everything in any temp file I can find, cleaned out prefetch, moved all the NTUninstall folders to a different partition. Uninstalled unused apps, since I know they leave stuff in C: even though I've installed them somewhere else). I gained nearly 400MB when I did that, but now the space is back down to 80MB in less than a week. Where is all this bloat coming from? What can I do to trim it back down to size? Yea, I have PartitionMagic (old, v8), but I'd rather just trim the excess, if that's possible. I get nervous moving partitions around.

View 11 Replies View RelatedWindows XP uses a file called hiperfil.sys to save everything it needs when Windows XP goes into hibernation. If you are like me, and never use the hibernate function, you can turn it off. By turning hibernate off, Windows XP deletes the hiberfil.sys. This can free up the as much disk space as the amount of ram that you computer has.Go to Control Panel/Power Options/Hibernation and untick the box. It's as easy as that. Now you will have plenty more disk space to install those mega programs!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to transfer a 4GB file to my external hard drive, which is said to have (under My Computer) 46.3GB free. It keeps giving me a "Cannot copy file. not enough free disk space. Delete one or more files to free up space then try again"... error.I've rebooted, and I am sure there is more than 4GB free on the hard drive. Any ideas? Is there some max size for a file that you can transfer to a hard drive? I've never heard of that.. but I guess anything is possible.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have no idea what's going on, but my computer, a Dell Inspiron, has only 1 GB of Local Disk (C left on it. Now, for the past 8 months, i've been editing & burning DVD's and films using editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, etc, and i've never had a problem. I've always had at least 50 GBs (or so i believe) of free space at any given moment when messing around with that stuff. When editing today, I was alerted that my local disk C was running low, and once i agreed to do a 'clean-up' of some sort to remove temporary internet files & offlines files, etc, i got a problem. Suddenly, my system was unstable and I had 3 MB of free space.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having a problem for the last few weeks. As I work on my computer the free space on my C drive decreases drastically. My drive is partitioned between C & D. When I restart, all my free space comes back. I just had to restart because I was down to 80 K. When I started I had 16.5G available. It's been about 2 hours and I'm down to 15G. I've run my anti-virus. About the time it started I installed a back up hard drive (which is intermittently attached to this laptop) and WD anywhere backup software.
