View 14 Replies View RelatedI was trying to remove windows messenger by going to control panel -> add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components I misread the directions for this windows XP setup box and made it so that only windows messenger had a checkmark because I thought this meant that only windows messenger would be modified removed unfortunately, this just meant windows messenger stayed the same and all the other components i had installed were removed. I know they are still on my computer since for accessories/games I can go to start -> run and type in something like "winmine" and minesweeper will open up, however if I go to the start menu and look in games it is empty
View 3 Replies View Relatedtesting MS's beta of Windows Onecare I installed it about 5 days ago and first impressions have been very favorable. It includes a firewall, anti-virus app, backup & restore feature, scheduled tune-up (defrag, etc) automatic updates. Nice for a beta software, no glitches yet and I have tested the backup/restore feature using dvd-rw media. The firewall is inbound / outbound detection unlike XP's built-in. You do have to disable / remove any existing firewall / anti-virus before installation. This might be a subscription service after beta, but may well be worth it, especially for new / in-experienced PC users. But anyone can benefit from the many features, built-in backup to CD / DVD

But this week after the latest MS Updates 3 things have broke. Updates will not update. The MS Windows Updates pages hangs and will not DL the updates. OE 6.x will not DL the webbased email from: myname@msn.com MS Live OneCare will not update. Now this HP PC will not restart, reboot. It just hangs forever. And ever. All 4 things broke at the same time on the same day after DL'ing the MS Updates

View 1 Replies View RelatedAlright, I need to know if I can remove windows XP Professional. It was the first operating system installed. I want to wipe the entire harddrive of EVERYTHING on it and have windows like when it was first installed. I have the windows XP HOME CD key, so I'm guessing I might have to go from Pro to Home, which is fine with me. Is there a way to do this? I'm sorry, not very good with PCs.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI uninstaled some windows components and it turns out that I need them and have not been able to reinstall them. I have been trying to reinstall the advanced features in my sounds and audio devices. Since I removed that feature when I play a DVD no my computer the sound will not get very loud. I am having no problem with other videos just DVD's. But I have also tried reinstalling games and other features and they will not install either.
When trying to install I use the Windows Installation CD and the installation seems to go fine. I don't get any error message, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I also tried the Add/Remove Programs feature in the control panel and got the same results.

When windows is loading, you have to select which of the two windows that you want to loading.
Whenever I try to get to the add/remove windows components menu in add/remove programs, it gives me this error message:Setup was unable to open information file comnt5.inf.Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is 0x2 at line 2088999411.The application could not be initialized.
View 10 Replies View RelatedLast night I was trying to remove some unneeded Windows components that I thought were slowing my system down. I went into "Add/Delete Programs", and then "Add/Remove Windows components". I mis-interpretedd the prompts and ended up deleting everything except what I wanted to. When I tried to add the functions back it asks for my Windows CD. It's been a long time since I installed windows and I find that I can't locate the CD. Any idea how I might be able to restore my system. At the moment I no longer have a working internet connection

All of the accessories and utilities were somehow deleted from me computer, but when I go into the add/remove windows components wizard, it won't let me install them. It says "Please insert the Compact Disc labeled 'Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD' into your CD-ROM drive (D and then click OK". The only Windows XP CD I have only has Service Pack 1 on it and it doesn't work for this

I couldn't remove it on a conventional way, using the add/remove tool, so I removed it from my windows startup list, and then physically removed the folder from my HDD, and then used PC Tools Registry Mechanic thinking that it would do the trick, but it didn't. I tried various registry cleaning programs, but I just can't find it in the lists.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have tried previously to uninstall my HP Officejet G85 printer from HP Pavilion a1130n running XP Media. There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently uninstalled Windows SP3 RC1 from my computer and reverted back to Windows SP2 through the use of Projekt (Project) Dakota. Before uninstallation though, one of my siblings had run this script to update to Windows SP3 RC2. I do not want to install the newest RC2, as I'm now waiting for a final release. I changed my Windows Update Settings to download but to not install, as it was already downloaded from yesterday. Is there anyway to remove the already downloaded but not installed update for Windows SP3 RC2, and is there anyway to remove the script (that tells the computer to download SP3 RC2?)
