I installed the Eset NOD32 3.0 antivirus, I wanted to remove it. I couldn't remove it on a conventional way, using the add/remove tool, so I removed it from my windows startup list, and then physically removed the folder from my HDD, and then used PC Tools Registry Mechanic thinking that it would do the trick,but it didn't. I tried various registry cleaning programs, but I just can't find it in the lists.

When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've gone through all the microsoft fixes(??) and they haven't worked. Also, when I try to hibernate the machine if any programs are running it will say I don't have enough memory (I have 2GB in a Gateway 506GR, Pentium 4, 3400 Mhz running XP Home Edition). I run NOD32 antivirus.
The machine seems like it is running hard all the time but the CPU usage is usually only around 2 or 3 %. I'm thinking about putting in a larger hard drive and starting over completely. I backup pretty well (although not always often enough).
Even though I removed a program it is still in the control panel's add/remove programs list. How can I get rid of it?

I have it working well now except the USB ports do not work.The laptop was in pretty bad shape when I started. I remove Norton Antivirus (subscription expired 3 years ago), removed a few trojans and viruses using Malwarebytes and Combofix, and installed AVG Free. I also cleaned up the temp files, compacted the registry using NTRegOpt, and defragmented the drive.I have tried uninstalling the USB controllers and let Windows reinstall them, verified working status in Device manager, and disabled USB device power management. I also plugged in a USB mouse and verified the ports are supplying power.

View 14 Replies View RelatedIt got infected with Windows Police Pro. After disabling that, there are several 'remnants' left over. The only way I can run any spyware/malware removal programs is to install it fresh. The program(s) will open, then it'll shut down 2 seconds into the scan. It even shuts down my registry cleaner as soon as it begins to clean (after it finds all the errors). All these programs simply terminate themselves. It does this in SafeMode as well.

They wouldn't uninstall using the conventional method so I just deleted the folders and used Registry Medic to clean up the mess.
The only thing left is in the add/remove programs list.
I have gone in the registry and in the 'uninstall section' removed all things 'Nokia' but still they remain.
Just ran my Add/Remove Programs utility from the Control panel, and it said populating please wait.
Half an hour later, the list still has nothing in it !

When I go into the add remove programs from the control panel, the list never gets displayed. I get a 'Please wait while the list is populated...", but nothing happens after that. This is on a fresh install on a new PC, with only about 6 programs installed (Photoshop, Photomechanic, etc). Nothing out of the ordinary.

At the top of my Add/Remove Programs List I see a blank listing. It is 3.71 MB in size, it reports as being used "frequently" even though it says it was last used 3/5/2006.Odd.I don't know what would be causing this, any ideas?May I mention that there is NOT a button for change/remove program.

Got rid of a lot of Trojans & spyware. There is still a suspect, something called DMVLite, cant seem to uninstall this one. Google search only led me to do an HJT log. Not to sure I want to do that.I also tried to uninstall a program called DVD Sentry, but it said the Windows Installer 3.1 was missing.
Maybe most important issue. Ran Belarc, said it is missing 40 critical updates ! There is a Windows Update Shield that says it has a download to install. KB888162,it detects if SP2 is properly installed, it is NOT.Wants me to uninstall SP2. When I go to uninstall, I get all these, cannot copy files.My question is, is it OK to click cancel on these cannot copy, since I cant seem to do anything else anyway.

I need to free space on my C drive and have installed many programs already on a second drive. Windows Add/Remove Programs doesn't list quite a few old programs on C, like old versions of Quickbooks, that are listed by Explorer. How do I remove them? Something tells me it's more than just selecting them and clicking Delete.
