View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed the Eset NOD32 3.0 antivirus, I wanted to remove it. I couldn't remove it on a conventional way, using the add/remove tool, so I removed it from my windows startup list, and then physically removed the folder from my HDD, and then used PC Tools Registry Mechanic thinking that it would do the trick, but it didn't. I tried various registry cleaning programs, but I just can't find it in the lists.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am working on a friends laptop, a Dell Inspiron 9200 running Windows XP Pro with SP3. I have it working well now except the USB ports do not work. The laptop was in pretty bad shape when I started. I remove Norton Antivirus (subscription expired 3 years ago), removed a few trojans and viruses using Malwarebytes and Combofix, and installed AVG Free. I also cleaned up the temp files, compacted the registry using NTRegOpt, and defragmented the drive.I have tried uninstalling the USB controllers and let Windows reinstall them, verified working status in Device manager, and disabled USB device power management. I also plugged in a USB mouse and verified the ports are supplying power.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt got infected with Windows Police Pro. After disabling that, there are several 'remnants' left over. The only way I can run any spyware/malware removal programs is to install it fresh. The program(s) will open, then it'll shut down 2 seconds into the scan. It even shuts down my registry cleaner as soon as it begins to clean (after it finds all the errors). All these programs simply terminate themselves. It does this in SafeMode as well.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter uninstalling a number of suspect programs, I ran my anti stuff, AdAware SE, Ewido, Spybot, Ccleaner, AVG, Stinger, CWShredder and Housecall. Got rid of a lot of Trojans & spyware. There is still a suspect, something called DMVLite, cant seem to uninstall this one. Google search only led me to do an HJT log. Not to sure I want to do that.I also tried to uninstall a program called DVD Sentry, but it said the Windows Installer 3.1 was missing.
Maybe most important issue. Ran Belarc, said it is missing 40 critical updates ! There is a Windows Update Shield that says it has a download to install. KB888162,it detects if SP2 is properly installed, it is NOT.Wants me to uninstall SP2. When I go to uninstall, I get all these, cannot copy files. My question is, is it OK to click cancel on these cannot copy, since I cant seem to do anything else anyway.
I deleted the AOL file from Add/Remove Programs (except for 'AOL Uninstaller', which can't uninstall apparently) and then did a Search for 'AOL' and got a few dozen files totaling about 300+ Mb. Problem is, I can't delete most of them. I get an error message saying: Quote :Cannot Delete File: Cannot Read from Source File or Disk
View 7 Replies View RelatedNormally when you click on a folder or file in My Documents, and right click on that file or folder, you should get a list of options on what you want to do with that file/folder, including deleting it. However, I have a very stubborn file in my computer that will not delete. When I right click it, it does not give me the option to delete it. I can not remove, rename, or move the file. It won't do anything at all. Is there any way at all that I can delete or remove it

I have been trying to delete a wallpaper my son downloaded by mistake (always blame the kids) named just Internet Explorer Wallpaper I think my sorry his mistake was setting it as background instead of saving in my pitures it seems strange to me that you can go into your hard drive and delete crucial files but its made very difficult to delete a wallpaper.
View 6 Replies View RelatedUsing XP SP2 and I can not move, rename or delete any folders. For example - I create a New Folder and try to rename it - it stays as New Folder. I try to move ANY folder and it does not move - stays where it is. Even when copying contents of a USB stick - folders will not move, be renamed or deleted. I CAN however, move files and rename and delete files - just not ANY folder!I can delete the folders from the command prompt though.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI know nothing about computers but my boyfriend knows a lot and this has even stumped him. I keep getting notices about having the w32.spybot.worm on my computer. We've followed the instructions on symantec for removal, didn't work. We've formatted it by deleting the partitions, still came back. Then we did a low-level format, and it still came back. The website at symantec says it comes from Kazaa?! I don't have kazaa, and never have. I run Norton virus checks and it doesn't find it, or it says it already deleted it. I search my computer and delete all the little tftp zero byte files. They keep coming back, and I don't know what to do.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo you are one of the hundreds of thousands of people that did not update your computer in time. No problem, just follow the instructions below to remove the worm from your system. Some users that are infected with the worm have a hard time updating and removing the worm because the system automatically pops up a message informing the user that the machine is going to shut down in 60 seconds. To stop your machine from shutting down one this message is displayed, simply go to the start menu and select run. Then type shutdown -a in the text box and click the OK button. This will stop the machine from shutting down. Now the first step is to apply the security patch to your system. We will remove the worm in step three but first it is important to update your system to make it secure. To update your system, click the link below for your operating system and download the file to your computer.
Windows XP Users - Click Here - Windows 2000 Users - Click Here - Windows NT Users - Click Here - Other Versions of this patch - Click HereNow that you have the patch downloaded to your computer, simply run the file from the location that you saved it at. Follow the on screen directions and keep clicking next. Now that the security hole in your system is fixed, it is time to remove the worm. To remove the worm, just download a special program that Symantec developed by clicking here. Once you have downloaded the program, run it and click the start button to start the search for the worm in your system. When it finds traces of the worm, allow the program to delete the files to rid your system of the worm. That's it. Now you should have a worm free system.
The IT guy at work thinks a worm is responsible for me not being able to log onto the internet, and getting the AFD network support invalid driver messages. Norton isn't finding any virus, worm or other problems.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy aunt got hit with the W32spybot.worm. Nortons keeps popin up alertin her to it but says it cant remove it. Ive pulled up the removal instrustions online. Problem is she is more or less computer illiterate and since she lives on the other side of the country from me I cant fix it myself. I would like to avoid having to walk her through the removal over the phone since it deals with the registry and random file names, it would make it a pain to find. Are there any programs out that can remove it? Nortons will only do it part way so it re-installs after reboot.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft Windows, SpyBot, and Norton all sent a deluge of windows saying they had detected changes. SpyBot sent 7-10 warnings, one of them saying "SpyBot. Search & Destroy has detected an important registry item entry that has been changed. Catagory: System Startup global entry; Change: Value deleted; Entry: elkfqxcj; Old data: c:windowselkfqxcj.exe; [allow change][Deny change].Each of these SpyBot notices had a different entry. Since then my computer is extremely slow, freezes up when left for any time. A window pops us when opening and when changing applications titled "16 bit Windows Subsystem", saying:
C:WindowsSystem32AutoExec.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Window's applications. Choose 'close' to terminate application. [close] [ignore]
I know that many in this group support downloading Windows XP updates.Personally,I download and install ONLY what is absolutely necessary, which for me has avoided problems with smooth running systems. There has been much media attention the past couple of days about the Zotob worm, I.E., PnP and compromised Windows security.I know that there is a patch available for download at the Microsoft web site WindowsXP-KB899588-x86-ENU.exe
