View 14 RepliesI installed the Eset NOD32 3.0 antivirus, I wanted to remove it. I couldn't remove it on a conventional way, using the add/remove tool, so I removed it from my windows startup list, and then physically removed the folder from my HDD, and then used PC Tools Registry Mechanic thinking that it would do the trick,but it didn't. I tried various registry cleaning programs, but I just can't find it in the lists.

I have it working well now except the USB ports do not work.The laptop was in pretty bad shape when I started. I remove Norton Antivirus (subscription expired 3 years ago), removed a few trojans and viruses using Malwarebytes and Combofix, and installed AVG Free. I also cleaned up the temp files, compacted the registry using NTRegOpt, and defragmented the drive.I have tried uninstalling the USB controllers and let Windows reinstall them, verified working status in Device manager, and disabled USB device power management. I also plugged in a USB mouse and verified the ports are supplying power.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt got infected with Windows Police Pro. After disabling that, there are several 'remnants' left over. The only way I can run any spyware/malware removal programs is to install it fresh. The program(s) will open, then it'll shut down 2 seconds into the scan. It even shuts down my registry cleaner as soon as it begins to clean (after it finds all the errors). All these programs simply terminate themselves. It does this in SafeMode as well.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter uninstalling a number of suspect programs, I ran my anti stuff, AdAware SE, Ewido, Spybot, Ccleaner, AVG, Stinger, CWShredder and Housecall. Got rid of a lot of Trojans & spyware. There is still a suspect, something called DMVLite, cant seem to uninstall this one. Google search only led me to do an HJT log. Not to sure I want to do that.I also tried to uninstall a program called DVD Sentry, but it said the Windows Installer 3.1 was missing.
Maybe most important issue. Ran Belarc, said it is missing 40 critical updates ! There is a Windows Update Shield that says it has a download to install. KB888162,it detects if SP2 is properly installed, it is NOT.Wants me to uninstall SP2. When I go to uninstall, I get all these, cannot copy files.My question is, is it OK to click cancel on these cannot copy, since I cant seem to do anything else anyway.

When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. I was able to get into the add/remove program list but nothing was there. There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... Also, when I try to hibernate the machine if any programs are running it will say I don't have enough memory (I have 2GB in a Gateway 506GR, Pentium 4, 3400 Mhz running XP Home Edition). I run NOD32 antivirus.
The machine seems like it is running hard all the time but the CPU usage is usually only around 2 or 3 %. I'm thinking about putting in a larger hard drive and starting over completely. I backup pretty well (although not always often enough).
i got and error in my Mcaffe that asked my to reinstall the program, I've tried but always got an error.I've tried to install "sSpybot - Search & Destroy" the installation was good but i as i wanted to run the program i got "seraching for SpybotSD.exe" box Msg. , i checked the folder and nothing, not EXE file downloaded it againg and install it againg and nothing..I've ran the windows repair stuff "sfc /scannow" and nothing really cheanged, and "ad-aware" didnt find anyhthing as well.so right now i cant install any program - always the EXE is been deleted and cant run the anti-virus program as well?

When I went to restart it after the install it wouldn't restart it would get stuck at the blue welcome screen. Tried booting it into safe mode and it wouldn't even boot there. So finally I had to use the Windows XP disk and do a recovery. Well when I did that she lost all of her applications. I had to reload Office, Adobe, and it said that the Panda Antivirus was not installed correctly.So I tired to reinstall it and I get an error of Class not registered.I hoping not to have to do format and reinstall Windows Xp but I think there is some corruption in the computer.
