I need to free space on my C drive and have installed many programs already on a second drive. Windows Add/Remove Programs doesn't list quite a few old programs on C, like old versions of Quickbooks, that are listed by Explorer. How do I remove them? Something tells me it's more than just selecting them and clicking Delete.

Obviously I didn't know what I was doing, but I did get the system installed and put programs back on that I had disks for. The problem is that I now have Norton, Nero and others on the hard drive that do not show up on the computer but when I do a scan I have to check through all those programs and they are taking up space on the drive. I cannot access any of them.

They wouldn't uninstall using the conventional method so I just deleted the folders and used Registry Medic to clean up the mess.
The only thing left is in the add/remove programs list.
I have gone in the registry and in the 'uninstall section' removed all things 'Nokia' but still they remain.
Just ran my Add/Remove Programs utility from the Control panel, and it said populating please wait.
Half an hour later, the list still has nothing in it !

When I go into the add remove programs from the control panel, the list never gets displayed. I get a 'Please wait while the list is populated...", but nothing happens after that. This is on a fresh install on a new PC, with only about 6 programs installed (Photoshop, Photomechanic, etc). Nothing out of the ordinary.

Since i don't know anything about softwares i click on OK everytime . After that as the desktop is loading , I get a send error report prompt saying that Firedaemon.exe has encountered some problem . So that means firedaemon is causing this error to pop up .But the thing is that i never installed firedaemon into my computer and i can't find it in Add or Remove programs list either .
i downloaded this trial version of counterspy 2 from sunbelt and i dont want it anymore and i cant remove it, The help says to go to control panel and add remove programs but when i do, its the only program listed there that doesnt give me the option to remove, change or anything to it, it just says used rarely and thats it, all the other ones will let me remove it. whats the deal, anyone know? i should be able to uninstall this bs, and i cant get it to work, im a noob
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy hard drive with my OS on it ended up going bad. When it went bad, I had a slave drive with some data on it set up that happened to get corrupted along the way. So I removed the bad drive, put a new drive in and installed a fresh copy of xp w sp2. Did all my updates, everything ran perfect. Now I left my slave drive alone with my date on it. Some of my data got corrupted and if you went looking around in there, a message would come up drive not formatted if I opened certain folder on that drive. Some of the data was still good. Well anyways I noticed on my brand new fresh install, if I went to add/remove programs it would sit there and hang. It would say please wait while list is being populated. If I let it sit long enough it would eventually come up but something was definitely wrong. So while I am sitting here waiting for the list to load, I noticed my hard drive activity light was lit on my tower and seemed like the hard drive was very busy. So after googling some more and not finding any help I figured I would try and fix it myself.
I ended up getting what I could off my slave drive and downloaded maxblast and cleared everything out and re-set the drive and deleted and created a new partition. Well guess what, my add remove programs now works perfect after clearing out my slave drive. I'm guessing what was happening was for whatever reason the add remove programs was trying to scan Drive D: for whatever reason and it had corrupt data on it which is why it took so long. I'm not saying this is going to solve all hang ups, but I tried every tip I could find and no dice. This actually worked. So if you are having trouble take a good look at your hard drives and make sure they are in good working order.
When I did a fresh install of XP Pro, my add or remove programs list is blank. Nothing ever shows up on it. Is there a fix for this?
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy add -remove programs list in control panel takes a long time to compile the list. even with "show updates" unchecked. there are a couple that wont remove, games that my son installed and free trial ran out. one list under "start-programs" and the uninstall button leads to the documents folder, and "remove" says some file is missing. it still has a file in program files also.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI discovered that my main computer had acquired the 'Pure Networks Platform' mess, possibly from when I installed a Linksys WRT 160n wireless router. The actual software doesn't seem to be on the setup cd, but I haven't downloaded it either. Have figured out that its give me slowdowns and wierdnesses and generally making me mad. Especially when I find that it does not show in Add Remove! Tried searching for Pure Networks remover, and other variations in wording. Find that lots of people have similar difficulties. View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with my DVD Burner. It used to work fine, I was able to burn DVDs (Using Roxio). I fixed an issue related to AVI files by installing a program called K-Lite Codec Pack. During the installation, I was asked to approve some erroneous registry entries that existed. Since then, I have had issues with the DVD Burner (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4081B). The drive doesn't show up in as a valid letter on my list of drives. When I go to the device manager, it has a yellow ! next to it (Code 37)....
What I have tried so far:Un-uinstalled and re-installed the device driver Followed instructions on Microsoft.com to Manual steps to delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values that can cause CD access problems (http://support.microsoft.com/default...en-us%3B314060) At that point, I could see the drive and the exclamation mark in the device manager was gone, however, I could not burn any DVDs... it didn't recognize it as a burner....

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've reinstalled XP and some icons are missing from the "Start"/"all programs" menu. Both Outlook Express and Internet Explorer are missing. I was able to locate them using "search" then open and pin to start menu. (The search function displays i.e. shortcuts for "administrator", "guest" and the other user, but not for me. The icons do display on the "all programs" list for the other user). Any suggestions as to how to get them back on the "all programs" menu?
