Redirect My Documents: Change The Path That The Explorer My Documents Use?
Jul 20, 2005I keep my docs and importante files on a hard drive separate from my C: hard drive where I have XP Pro SP2 installed. On my second hard drive (E I have a folder called My Documents. I know that the normal My Documents link in explorer is some kind of dynamic link because it points to Document and Settings user My Documents.is it possible to change the path that the explorer My Documents use to point somewehre different than the Docs and Settings path.
Windows Explorer And Folder Shortcuts Open To "my Documents" And Not The Folder
Apr 2, 2007I made the change below however, if I click on a folder in the left hand "Folders" pane, it works as before and opens the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.
However, if I click on any folders in the right hand (files pane) a new windows explorer window opens a displays the "my documents".
The same thing happens if you click on a shortcut to a folder. Instead of the folder opening, it opens a new window and displays "my documents".
This problems started when I added a new function to the folder file folder file type properties to print out the contents of a folder by calling a batch file that piped the content to a file.
In the file association for file folders in the advanced section I now have three functions
- the afore mentioned 'create file list'
- explore (the default), and
- find
For the folder file type I just have:
- explore and
- open
Any suggestions on how to put things back to the way Windows Explorer always worked before make clicking folders in the right hand pane open them up properly in the same window as per clicking them on the left hand pane?
Need More Space On My Drive - What Can I Remove From Documents & Settings?
Mar 12, 2006I'm using Windows XP. The 18Gig drive in my laptop is almost full & I need more space. There are almost 2 Gigs in my Documents and Settings (D&S) folder. I do not have any other users but years ago I did setup for two users. I have eliminated the other user but I still have Administrator, users and other settings in D&S folder. Can I combine them into a single folder and eliminate a lot of unneeded files. How do I decide the ones I need and the ones I can get rid of? Please don't tell me to format the drive and start over I just purchased a 100Gig external USB drive and moved all my data files but I would like to free up more space to record audio files. I have used XP resources to eliminate files and have painstakingly looked at each folder and eliminated where I could.

I have a username to log in to my pc.underthis user name I had made my documents private.One day to do some work I logged in to the PC as an administrator.Here I delete my user account and created with same name again. Aug 12, 2002This tweak allows for the removal of Internet Explorer from Windows XP. In order to do so you will need a system with a second operating system installed (i.e. Windows 98, Linux, etc). My system is dual-booted with Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows XP Home Edition. Both partitions must be formated with FAT32 for this tweak to work.
1. In order to remove Internet Explorer from Windows XP without the Windows File Protection kicking in and restoring the files I am trying to delete, I booted into Windows 98 by selecting Windows 98 from the boot menu.
2. Once Windows 98 was booted I used windows explorer to browse to the drive where I installed Windows XP. In my case I double click the E: drive in Windows explorer, then Program Files, then Internet Explorer.
3. Select all the files in the directory Internet Explorer and delete them.
4. Reboot the computer into Windows XP.
5. Internet Explorer will be gone.This tweak could also be performed using Linux or DOS. But not the version of DOS that comes with Windows XP. Do not remove Internet Explorer if any of the applications you use require it to run. Furthermore, you will no longer be able to use the Windows Update feature, but you can download the patches individually.
Remove Toolbar From Explorer
Feb 21, 2008Just installed Windows XP, and I can't remove or hide the toolbar or the address bar from Explorer not Internet Explorer. When I click on View/Toolbars, both Standard Buttons and Address Bar are checked and disabled, meaning I can't un-check them. How can I un-check them? There must be some registry hack that they did to prevent us from hiding the toolbar. I'm not sure if this is related, but in Internet Explorer7, I can't seem to customize the toolbar? Again, when I right click on the toolbar, I select Customize Command Bar, and the Add or Remove Commands menu item is disabled.

Dec 21, 2007I uninstaled some windows components and it turns out that I need them and have not been able to reinstall them. I have been trying to reinstall the advanced features in my sounds and audio devices. Since I removed that feature when I play a DVD no my computer the sound will not get very loud. I am having no problem with other videos just DVD's. But I have also tried reinstalling games and other features and they will not install either.
When trying to install I use the Windows Installation CD and the installation seems to go fine. I don't get any error message, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I also tried the Add/Remove Programs feature in the control panel and got the same results.
