I'm presently running a weekly scan with Defenders from Windows, Windows OneCare Safety Scanner and then I run Avira AntiVir Personal. I've also enabled Windows Firewall but wonder if its sufficient. Am I duplicating my efforts between the three and is Win Firewall enough
When I open up the Wizard and click "next", it goes to the "options" screen, but when I click on "custom setup" or "next" (again) I get an error message that says "Error: An error occurred while setting scanner preferences. If the scanner is being used [which it isn't], wait for it to complete the task, and then try again."I'm using a Dell Dimension E510 with a Dell AIO 942.Please help, if at all possible. I've downloaded some file recovery programs, but have since removed them. I don't know what else could be interfering here.
I installed Microsoft Live Family Safety program but it never worked correctly, often blocking us from the internet all together no matter what my setting are. I have to disable the entire program before I can open the internet at all. I have tried several times to unistall the program from the control panel add/remove programs and get message that says I cannot uninstall. I am logged on as the admin and it is Windows XP. I was wondering if I could try booting up in safe mode and uninstalling
Everytime I boot up my computer I get a message that my computer had shut down for a safety reason, power failure, inproper shut down etc, so I am given theses options:
1.Start Normally 2.Start at last working configuration (setting that my cpu last worked properly) 3.Safe mode 3.safe mode with networking 4.safe mode & something else (sorry I forget exactly)
Currently, I have to disable the other computer so I can get online with this one, so I may not be exactly wording the messages given.........
testing MS's beta of Windows Onecare I installed it about 5 days ago and first impressions have been very favorable. It includes a firewall, anti-virus app, backup & restore feature, scheduled tune-up (defrag, etc) automatic updates. Nice for a beta software, no glitches yet and I have tested the backup/restore feature using dvd-rw media. The firewall is inbound / outbound detection unlike XP's built-in. You do have to disable / remove any existing firewall / anti-virus before installation. This might be a subscription service after beta, but may well be worth it, especially for new / in-experienced PC users. But anyone can benefit from the many features, built-in backup to CD / DVD
I recently installed Windows OneCare Live onto my PC, I did not like it and I tried to uninstall but It gave me an error, so I went to program files and deleted the OneCare folder and shortcuts. Still this did not work, so now I cannot uninstall this program. and even if i try to reinstall it and error comes up saying to install onecare you msut first uninstall the previous one
Updates, OE 6.x, Live OneCare. Nothing works. Nothing updates. For many years this HP PC with XP home worked perfect. But this week after the latest MS Updates 3 things have broke. Updates will not update. The MS Windows Updates pages hangs and will not DL the updates. OE 6.x will not DL the webbased email from: myname@msn.com MS Live OneCare will not update. Now this HP PC will not restart, reboot. It just hangs forever. And ever. All 4 things broke at the same time on the same day after DL'ing the MS Updates
I have been unable to completely delet Windows Live OneCare Service in Windows XP. I have gone through the control panel to delete the program but it never completes. Is there a way to completely delete the program
The ubiquitous svchost is causing problems on my computer. This problem has been going on a couple of months, slowly I've been getting a handle on it which seems to concern my scanner, although its been connected to the computer for years, it still works happily. I have not added anything, would have contributed to the problem, apart from regular updates from Microsoft, AVG etc. The version of svchost running is part of Windows Image Acquisition. It tends to be using somewhere between 6 and 20% of the processor. But the part which eventually causes the computer to slow down and crash is that it is adding about 100 handles a second, as seen in task manager. The computer gets slow, the screen doesn't refresh properly
ive got an epson 1000ics all in one printer using windows xp home. For some reason, the scanner stopped working. I used to scan using the camera and scanner wizard because the scan button on the printer never has worked. Now it shows the printer being an image scanner but there's no little arrow beside it. I don't think it's being recognized, but the printer works perfectly. The error says the install shield engine (ikernal.exe) could not be launched. the rpc server is unavailable.
I am having problems with XP recognizing the scanner on my HP PSC 2110 which had worked well on ME. I also can not get XP to recoginize my Vivitar Camera, both are connected using USB ports.I have uninstalled and reinstalled both software packages to no avail. Printer works even though it is not recognized.
Everybody who ownes a Mustek 600 II N scanner and want to install it under XP will notice it won't work. Mustek's website says the scanner is not supported under Windows XP.select the exact drivers by looking up the first two letters of the serialnumber found under the barcode on the backside of the scanner. Before installing the driver click right on the .exe file and go to properties, compatibility and select 'Windows NT4' from the pulldown menu. Now install the drivers and it should work. I'm running Windows XP PRO here but i'm sure it will work under XP Home too.If you own another, unsupported Mustek scanner you can try the same
I installed Uniblue Driver Scanner and paid for it on the advice of DivX. It reports 4 outdated drivers supposadly replaced them but upon rescan it reported that they still needed updating. There appears to be no uninstall.
recently downgraded from vista to xp pro, now i have no sound. ive uninstalled and reinstalled read every forum i could find, downloaded driver scanners.
Usually this will start on it's own. Today that is not happening. I have verified that everything is connected correctly. Is there any other way to start this?
Running every bl**dy time I plug in a USB mini hard drive? I've tried a system restore, searched some about autoplay- turned autoplay off and on, tried to find autoplay in GPEDIT, no joy there, irritating in that just the one USB drive does this, and it doesn't even have any pictures on it.
I seem to have "lost" the executable for the "scanner and camera wizard", which makes it easy to write digital images from my CF card to my hard drive. I know I can do some cutting and pasting to get the images there.
When I plug in my camera into a USB port, the Scanner and Camera wizard, which used to run, no longer runs, instead an explorer box pops up with the folder(s) on the memory stick. I can browse the memory stick, also. When I try to manually run the scanner and camera wizard, it tells me it cannot recognize the scanner or camera. Again, this was working, suddently it stopped.
I am using Windows XP Home with SP1 and SP2, a 1.7 GHz Pentium 4 with 1 GB of Ram. The problem involves a Coolscan 9000 film scanner with Firewire connection. Specifically, the scanner will not install. After installing the PCI card and Nikon Scan, turning the scanner on, or starting the computer after uinstalling the scanner from Device Manager, the following message appears:" Cannot Install This Hardware There was a problem installing this hardware.

I've been looking for a good registry cleaner. But before I buy one, can anyone recommend any good ones for me? The price really isn't an issue. Does anyone have any first hand experience with any registry cleaner they have used before?
Can anyone help me with a quick question or solution for a problem with my fax..I have a new HP Printer/Scanner/Fax/Copier for business, It works great. After installing it and using it for 3-4 months we had power outage and when the power came back, somehow the "Windows Fax" that comes with Windows XP Home, had taken over answering my phone on the second ring! Believe me I have tried everything, uninstalling then installing, changing the number rings before it answers, disabling, and still that #@$ still answers my phone, which caller hear as a loud fax scream in their ear and they have to hang up.My HP fax eavesdrops and when I don't answer my phone the answer machine picks up on the 4th ring which the HP hears and if it is a fax tone automatically recieves it. I love that it picks up without my having to do anything.
I know normally you pop in a CDR and a window should pop up allowing you to burn it without any software but doesnt work for me. Also is there a function that allows me to scan without having to install S/W for that/
