until a few days ago i had no problem expanding Internet to full screen format but overnight, that changed. i can still get small screen action but attempted expansion rersults only in the small screen going black and progress arrested. the program can be easily restarted but only in the small size.
View 3 RepliesI know this is a worn topic, but I searched for similar questions and didn't find the same problem that I am having.Upon reboot, immediatley after the BIOS load screen, I get a white progress bar across the bottom of a black screen. It will move a notch then hesitate for a minute then slowly progress. Once it gets up to about two or three notches it will zip to the end and XP starts to load. If I reboot in Safe Mode the same hesitiation occurs as it loads the list of drivers.Once I start to see the desktop, it will take another 7 minutes or so before I can gain control of the computer and the hard drive runs continuously during that time.

View 1 Replies View Relatedit would not do anything whilst on the windows loading screen (progress bar etc worked but it got stuck on that screen and wouldn't advance), the HDD light would blink for a while and then it would just sit there. Usually i would restart until quite a while later I discovered that if i left it for long enough (about 5-10 minutes) it would eventually load. I have also performed several reformats in this time and the problem would disappear for a while then show its ugly face again. It wouldn't do this every time but a large majority of the time it would.
Instead, it would go through the loading screen, finish that, and the screen would go blank (no signal detected etc) and then it wouldn't do anything at all, I have left it sitting there for about an hour once to see if eventually would work but it didn't. So to fix this I have to restart the computer and it would come up with the screen asking me if i want to use safe mode and usually i would either choose the Last known good configuration or start up windows normally, occasionally i would go in safe mode and restart from there and it would usually work but not always.
I got a problem
I use a developer program to make executables (hobby of mine saves me going troppo) called Clarion, it works OK, I made a DOSable program with it, it works OK.
Once I could open to full size DOS screen by pressing the Alt+Enter keys and it would stay open until I was finished with it, then I could revert back to a small screen by pressing Alt+Enter keys again.
Now if I press Alt+Enter keys the DOS screen appears, but it stays open in full screen for a couple of seconds then automatically closes back to the usual small screen.
I have tried right clicking on the icon, properties, screen and putting a dot in the full size option, but this does not work.
I have scanned my PC for viruses etc but no joy there.
I have Dialup only, so don't ask me to do a Panda or Trend scan as they drop you if you no got broadband.
I'm using XP pro, 512meg ram, using a Gigabyte MB, and Nivida video card.
XP working OK-dokie, sound ok-dokie, video ok-dokie, screen to DOS wonkie.

When I click on a link which asks me to send an email, a small screen comes up headed New Messages. The From and To fields are already filled in correctly when it appears but when I type my message/request/whatever, along comes another screen headed Dial Up Connection and then Connect btinternet.com (my ISV.) My name again is correctly filled in with a space saying if I want to change this password what password? to enter it in space provided.
I have tried every known password which I have ever used and when I press to connect, another little screen pops up telling me that it is 'unable to establish connection.' how to get around this? I end up copying and pasting the original link into my btYahoo mail box and sending it that way. A tad long winded
I am using XP and would like to know how to make My Computer, My Documents, Recycle Bin and Control Panel open in full screen as all other items do. It really annoys me that they open in a small screen meaning I have to maximise them every time I open them.
View 12 Replies View RelatedOn boot sequence, PC hangs on Windows boot screen - with the good old progress bar churning along for eternity. It just stays there. It is possible to boot into safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. but never boots up normally. 'Last Known Good..." does not help at all.
I have tried 'repairing' XP using the recovery console (deleting the boot.ini file, then BOOTCFG /REBUILD and then FIXBOOT) to no avail. Do not know where in the boot process it is getting hung up and not totally sure how to determine that.Using Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2. Plenty of RAM and disk space.
Had this problem once in the past and it seemed to self correct after about 50 reboots.
Does this sound like a re-install of XP is required or are there any other options that might work?
its my previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:
Administrator
Administrator.computer description name
Administrator.computer description name.000
username1
username2
Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!
My laptop has started to freeze at times,then the screen would blackout then appear with a black screen with a blue box inthe middle giving BOOT DEVICE OPTIONS Hard Disk Drive, CD-ROM/DVD, Floppy Disk Drive, LAN Boot it froze blacked out and now keeps going to this option page ,where as before if you turn off then on it rectified itself.
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : windowssystem32configsystem."
You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.

i get this error when i tried to open up my computer, first the windows xp loading screen works fine, then after that the screen just goes black and stays like that forever. this happened when i tried to uninstall a USB Bluetooth driver and it was requested to restart my pc so i did, and after that restart i cant get in no more, the screen just goes black after the windows xp load screen. im wondering how can i fix this problem? please help me guys... thank you.. and o yeah one more thing.. when i tried it on safe mode it went to the welcome screen but after that when i try to move my cursor i didnt move at all then i restart my pc again and the whole thing happens once more

He could do nothing except reboot it using the power button but on rebooting, there was a 'no signal' message on a black screen. We have checked the monitor connections (the monitor works when connected to his second computer) and even replaced the video card but of course this made no difference (no signal) We've taken out the HD and installed it on his second system. Does this mean that the most likely cause now is the motherboard/bios or is there something wrong in our approach/deductions

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart.
Next time, generally it would work perfect.So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.
it all started when I ran Nod32 antivirus. I ran it because I had some viruses on my computer that I wanted to get rid of. After the scan there were 180 some detected objects that were quarantined or deleted. So then I restart my computer and after the windows xp logo there is just a black screen with no cursor. And after awhile the computer will just restart and try booting up again. I tried going into safe mode and safe mode with command prompt but I still get a black screen with no cursor. The last known good configuration doesn't work either. I'm pretty frustrated because I did nothing wrong. I am also having a feeling that nod32 might have quarantined some infected files that are essential for Windows Xp to boot. I also do not have any windows xp disks with me how to fix this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWas working fine this morning but this afternoon - Upon startup everything runs fine until after the windows splash screen everything goes black and the only thing visable is a cursor, but nothing to click, cannot ctrl=alt=del, cannot right click. Cannot enter safe mode at all, last good configuration doesn't work either. Computer is still running, fan whirring, lights flashing. Fan has been cleaned and power supply checked, no change. Cannot get into anything to run explorer or virus check. She is running Windows XP SP3. I'm unsure of when sp3 was installed. I understand this may be an issue, along with video and graphics drivers, display settings, corrupt registry, flat CMOS battery or loose internal connections.

I have to hit the reset button, it goes to the dos screen with the safe mode, etc. choices. I choose "start using last known good configuration" and I'm good to go. View 6 Replies View RelatedI finally have the hardware and software to try a few things differently, and want to experiment with alternate forms of XP installs.I have an 80 Gb hard drive freshly fdisked and formatted, and have temporarily installed it as a slave drive. I then copied an XP Home (w/SP2 slipstreamed) directly to this drive. I want to try and directly install that version of XP to that hard drive, but can't determine what minimum files I also need to have extracted already to make it minimally bootable NTLDR, etc. I'm just curious to see if this can be done, for those problem installs where things get sticky. This installation will not be permanent, and is actually at this point, and uninstalled and unactivated CD.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe machine does the usual, POST etc, does all its checks and then goes to boot from the HDD(HDD is indicated in BIOS etc). At this very stage (just before the WinXP splash Screen) the Screen (LCD) just goes black and does not ever recover. There is no error messages and the HDD LED blinks a couple more times then does nothing. LCD power light stays on green. I have to either turn it off via power button or do a restart with Ctrl,Alt + Del.
I have disconnected all peripherals except Video Card, HDD and still no luck. The only reason why i left the Video Card was that there is no onboard video and i had no other Video cards to replace it. I cant even boot into safe mode.I manage to resolve the problem by doing a WinXP repair over the top but what i really want to know is, was it a corrupt/damaged MBR that was causing this problem or was it a corrupt driver? I have read a few articles about nVidia cards giving black screens but none seem to be similiar to mine.
When ever i start up windows it get threw the Windows boot screen then whens it suppose to come to the logon screen i see only black for no matter how long i leave it on!, i can still move the mouse, and thats all that happens i have a operating system cd, and if i got to repair windows what config do i type?

Anyone know what I can do?? I get the mouse and can move it around but no windows screen. I have done the diagnoics test and found a DST Short Test failed with code 1000-0146 is this why Windows will not load? Is my harddrive bad you think? The start screen is black and I see some white static light (lines?) whenever I turn on the pc before it settle down to showing the Windows Logo. My graphic card is new (ATI 5770 Radeon Xfire.happened before i installed the new grahpic card. Also i get black screen for now and then in the middle of work for about a few seconds before it resume back to whatever I was at (or doing). So far it has not crashed nor freeze. I have 4G Kingston Ram but the System is showing 4G Ram and it also shows that only 2.9G is useable. Could the ram be the problem? 2 previous sticks were good showing to be 2G as working healthy and the new additional 2 G shows up as a total of 4G but 2.9 as useable.
