computer Spec:XP Home, SP3, kaspersky Internet Security 2009I have a weird problem back in September I had XP home installed with all the latest windows and software updated. Then I realize that something was cutting my internet in half I would always do a speed test with cable speakeasy.net and it would always show my down over 17000kbps Up 2049kbps I have comcast Cable. but now my speed EVER go over 4000kbps my upload is always good 2000kbps but my down is horrible, whenever I search a site I always get a 6 second pause then it gos straight to it and my PC also took a little drop in speed as well and i've use every problem that I know is fine to use " spybot, adware personal, Kaspersky, microtrend online, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, CounterSpy, norton online, ccleaner, windows defender, I forgot the rest but nothing worked. So I decided to go back to Vista home install all my usual programs
My internet has been randomly cutting off (modems completely resetting) randomly. When I right click the "Local Area Connection" in Network Connections it freezes and takes about 5 minutes for that window to unfreeze. It does however say I'm connected and working yet the modem can't connect.I tried my modem on my Xbox (don't have another computer to try) and it works just like normal, no problems in any games online.
I am using a DSL connection with a maximum download speed of upto 2MBPS but i usually recieve it for about 1-1.5MBPS. I have tried using Download Accelerator softwares to increase my speed but wuth those some spam also come into my computer so i am not using it anymore. Is there any way by which i can increase my internet speed by doing some changes in Windows internally. Also while using sharing sites my speed tends to fall to about 45KBPS.
I recently installed Asmw PC optimizer and Accel speedtec.I find that both cannot really speed up my pc in real time. Can anyone kindly recommend a marvellous internet speed booster for super fast surfing.Operating system:Windows XP connection type:Cable modem(2000kbps)
My HP XP Home edition PC suxssss. My internet is really slow at first i thought it was my network but it ended up being my PC .I did System Recovery . I was able to get internet explorer but wasnt sure what AntiSpyware to get . I just ran a scan from windows live and it detected 30 viruses so far. DO i need adware and spyware. I never had a problem with the MAC before srry to say but PCS sux .
1. What are some of the ways I can measure my actual internet connection and see if my impression that it is suddenly slower can be tested? (maybe my cable modem is old?) 2. How can I put the "icon" in the bar at the bottom of my screen that shows two computers communicating back and forth?
I've got a strange problem. I have a 3-pc lan/comcast hight speed internet. I just reinstalled windows on one of the pc's. I can achieve internet ok on the pc I just reloaded, and I can access websites, but I can't open www.comcast.net. It just hangs. I can open all other webpages, but not comcast.
hi i am trying to spped up my pc i currently use a acer aspire and have broadband connection and also have 256 ram and my problem is my internet connection is still too slow i have been try many different lightweight browsers but still have the same problem, I really needed this problem sorted out as i need the faster internet speed for a online game i play called seafight where i will sometimes need 4 different browsers open at the same time so could you tell me if there is a fix to this problem and how much more ram can i put into my pc.
It's just happening in P2P programs, eg. Limewire, and .torrent files. It use to be somewhere around 55kb/s, and recently it dropped to about 1 kb/s.I ran lots of spyware/virus scans, but it didn't help, it's still downloading really slowly. If I download something straight of a link on a website, then it's really quick, still about 55kb/s.
I HAVE HIGH SPEED INTERNET. MY COMPUTER HAS BEEN WORKING FINE, UNTIL TONIGHT. IT IS GOING ONLINE AND OPENING WEB PAGES SUPER SLOW. I HAVE FULL VIRUS PROTECTION, SO I KNOW IT'S NOT THOSE. I HAVE DELETED ANY LARGE, UNUSED PROGRAMS.
Have only tried this on XP Pro but it works great. Decreased my login time from 2mins to 15secs. Increased my network speed (ex. 170MB file took 15-20min. Now the same 170MB file takes less than 2mins). WOW!Here it is... Go into your network properties and then into your TCP/IP settings. Add your Server's IP address as Prefered DNS Server. Then select you Advanced button, go into your WINS tab and insert your Server's IP address for your WINS address as well. Reboot the system and you SHOULD see a difference. I have already tried this on several systems and have seen the same increase in speed
I turned my computer on, and for maybe 10 minutes after i turned it on (when i got my homework done) I couldnt connect to my mail with Outlook, when i opened Firefox, all i could get was google, and i could search for something, but i couldnt go to any website. So i decided to try IE and it has been working so far, but it go slower than a 100 year old women. Could this be a virus or something?
XP Home reboots in the 3+ minute range. Once it gets to the 'Starting Windows XP' screen, it loads fine. Some damnthing is hanging.MY comp is running slow. Expeciially on the net. Task manager is reporting no excess network use. IE 6 acts like it's on a 56k modem. I use Mozilla FireFox, which runs fine, but my wife is a IE 6 fanatic. Shareaza and WinMX load slowly and take a minute or more to change tabs. BitTornado (latest versions all) loads and runs fine, but seems to hang after an hour or so. It stops updating speeds, seeds, peers, etc. It also closes slowly. Once I get online, the comp slams on the brakes. Mozilla is the only app that seems unaffected. Sygate is also logging a lot of portscans. 7 in the in the last hour or so. All from the same IP address.
We installed Comcast Highspeed Internet recently and much to our chagrin we've found it to be slower than dial-up.We've de-fragged, we've scanned for viruses we've had a technician out. He insists its not Comcast, it's our computer. We have had a Shellcon Hidden Window End Program show up during shut down (I've been trying to delete MusicMatch all evening) for months, but we'd ignored it till now.
My friend did a windows recovery after he had a black screen when starting windows. Both IE and Firefox had slow connectivity yet I had him do a speedtest with speakeasy.net and it showed good speeds. He says the longer the computer is on, the slower is a surfing the internet. CPU usage is normal.
internet speeds: 2500kbps/400kbps
Could the recovery have messed with his computer networking drivers? He used a gateway recovery disk. His computer is either a gateway or dell computer.
My wife uses a second computer that is connected via a hard wire. My internet connection is through Comcast cable and my wifes receives the internet connection through a router. The router is a Trendnet TW 100. My wife downloads and lets others in her movie room download from her files. Once in a 24 hour period her computer loses the internet connection and disrupt either her download or upload. She has been told it is the router but I opened it and do not see any shut down instruction in it. Does anyone have an idea why this happens every 24 hours and how to fix it,
I have had fiber optics for about 6 months now. I had cable access before that. I have three computers set up in my home in three different locations. All three are hardwired to a linksys router. A few nights ago one of my roommates told me she lost her internet connection. I was on mine at the time playing STO and I was having no problems. I checked with my other roommate and her internet connection was fine also. So I went to the room where the connection was out and asked her if she changed anything, she said no. I restarted the computer, still the connection was out. I checked the cable where it was exposed from the wall it looked fine. Now I noticed that the desk was sitting on the cable, but it still looked fine. So I went and got my spare computer that I keep as a back-up and brought it to the room that was out. I connected it and turned it on and the spares internet connection was down also (I just had the internet running on the spare earlier that day).
So I figured it had to be the cable or router (linksys). So I took another spare cable I had and connected it to my spare computer and still got nothing. So I figured it was the router. So I took the cable from the computer I was playing STO on and connected it to the port on the router that was connected to the computer that lost the connection and my computer's internet came up just fine. I started changing cables on the router (using different ports and cables) between the two working computers and the one's not working. The one's that were working (one Win7, one WinXP) in the first place continued to work and the one's that weren't working (both running WinXP) continued not to work no matter what cables and ports I switched them in. It was late and I had to head to work early in the morning so I gave up for the evening...........
I tried to install SP3 but was not allowed to do so. Said it would roll back to previous version but now not able to access internet. Tried several different ways to connect but computer just doesn't seem able to.
I lost my connection to IE 2 nites ago. I could search anywhere on the web thru Google, just not thru IE dellnet. I also have a shortcut to dell solutions that connects to the web- it also wouldn't work. I downloaded Mozilla, and RIGHT after that IE was up and running again. However, my direct link to Dell is still missing The error message is the typical IE message: the page cannot be displayed cannot find server or DNS error. Does anyone have any ideas? Is Dell trying to tell me something?
I am using the internet and all of a sudden the DSL and the Internet light start blinking. That means I lost connection in my DSL and internet.(when the lights are solid green that means they are working and have connection) When I first bought this product like 5 months ago this didnt happen to me but its been doing this for the last month.
The problem started when I was listening to iTunes, and all of a sudden I lost my internet connection. I checked the Network Connections but it said I was still connected. I ran Spy Sweeper and it detected a "threat" and said it had to restart the computer, which I said "OK" to. Then it froze up, so I just turned the computer off.Now when I turn the computer back on, everything goes through normal, I get to the windows "Welcome" screen and then it goes into Windows, but the only thing that shows is my desktop background. No icons, no start button, no toolbar.I can however, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and run new tasks that way
I lost the Internet Explorer and Outlook express entries from START, ALL PROGRAMS. Don't know why. System Restore from yesterday could not restore anything. I also lost these 2 entries from the quick launch bar on the left, beside the START button. Obviously IE is still on the system because I'm here.
Lately I've tried to get onto Final Fantasy Online and it doesn't appear to be letting me online, even though my internet is clearly working. It appears to be the exact same for WinMX (yes, it is a legal share program, so don't shout at me and refuse to help me) But at the same time as all this, my Windows Media Player refuses to play most of my MP3 tracks.
I am running a PC clone, Win XP SP3. It is using a wired connection to a router. Yesterday, out of no where, I lost connection to the internet. No browsers, Trillian, nothing that uses the internet works. I tried running a virus scan, malware scan and found nothing. I tried doing a system restore and it seemed to work, for a brief moment I had the internet again. Then, once more, it stopped working.
Right now, the current speculation is that the onboard network connection is dying. What I'm trying to find out, is if that is possible or not. I'm not worried about having to buy a card - they're cheap. I am worried about buying a new card and it not fixing the problem. Are there other things that can cause this to happen that I can/should look into first?
turn on the PC and find my mouse stopped working. I plugged in my pen tablet to use it as a mouse instead, and noticed the tablet driver stopped functioning too (I can still use it as a mouse, but it doesn't work as well without the driver). I then tried to connect to the internet to diagnose the problem, but the net isn't working. I restarted my router and modem, but no progress.
