I've got a strange problem. I have a 3-pc lan/comcast hight speed internet. I just reinstalled windows on one of the pc's. I can achieve internet ok on the pc I just reloaded, and I can access websites, but I can't open www.comcast.net. It just hangs. I can open all other webpages, but not comcast.
We installed Comcast Highspeed Internet recently and much to our chagrin we've found it to be slower than dial-up.We've de-fragged, we've scanned for viruses we've had a technician out. He insists its not Comcast, it's our computer. We have had a Shellcon Hidden Window End Program show up during shut down (I've been trying to delete MusicMatch all evening) for months, but we'd ignored it till now.
I was on here about 2 months ago and got my computer running really fast with the help here. I just want to know if you guys could help me out to clean it to make it run faster.
My computer crashed the other day and I got the dreaded BSD. I managed to reinstall the operating system which is XP Home Service Pack 1 on a CD drive that is not working correctly. I have managed to reinstall drivers so far but that is as far as I have gotton besides the reinstalling the OS. I have a friend who is 120 miles away and unavailable during the day that is trying to assist me, How do I go about getting back on the internet, I have highspeed internet access thru Comcast. I am leaving the wireless alone for now and just trying to connect thru the modem cable alone now but nothing is happening, when I try to connect thru the cable modem the browser is not working. I had Firefox before instead of IE.
I am using a DSL connection with a maximum download speed of upto 2MBPS but i usually recieve it for about 1-1.5MBPS. I have tried using Download Accelerator softwares to increase my speed but wuth those some spam also come into my computer so i am not using it anymore. Is there any way by which i can increase my internet speed by doing some changes in Windows internally. Also while using sharing sites my speed tends to fall to about 45KBPS.
computer Spec:XP Home, SP3, kaspersky Internet Security 2009I have a weird problem back in September I had XP home installed with all the latest windows and software updated. Then I realize that something was cutting my internet in half I would always do a speed test with cable speakeasy.net and it would always show my down over 17000kbps Up 2049kbps I have comcast Cable. but now my speed EVER go over 4000kbps my upload is always good 2000kbps but my down is horrible, whenever I search a site I always get a 6 second pause then it gos straight to it and my PC also took a little drop in speed as well and i've use every problem that I know is fine to use " spybot, adware personal, Kaspersky, microtrend online, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, CounterSpy, norton online, ccleaner, windows defender, I forgot the rest but nothing worked. So I decided to go back to Vista home install all my usual programs
I recently installed Asmw PC optimizer and Accel speedtec.I find that both cannot really speed up my pc in real time. Can anyone kindly recommend a marvellous internet speed booster for super fast surfing.Operating system:Windows XP connection type:Cable modem(2000kbps)

1. What are some of the ways I can measure my actual internet connection and see if my impression that it is suddenly slower can be tested? (maybe my cable modem is old?) 2. How can I put the "icon" in the bar at the bottom of my screen that shows two computers communicating back and forth?
hi i am trying to spped up my pc i currently use a acer aspire and have broadband connection and also have 256 ram and my problem is my internet connection is still too slow i have been try many different lightweight browsers but still have the same problem, I really needed this problem sorted out as i need the faster internet speed for a online game i play called seafight where i will sometimes need 4 different browsers open at the same time so could you tell me if there is a fix to this problem and how much more ram can i put into my pc.
It's just happening in P2P programs, eg. Limewire, and .torrent files. It use to be somewhere around 55kb/s, and recently it dropped to about 1 kb/s.I ran lots of spyware/virus scans, but it didn't help, it's still downloading really slowly. If I download something straight of a link on a website, then it's really quick, still about 55kb/s.
I HAVE HIGH SPEED INTERNET. MY COMPUTER HAS BEEN WORKING FINE, UNTIL TONIGHT. IT IS GOING ONLINE AND OPENING WEB PAGES SUPER SLOW. I HAVE FULL VIRUS PROTECTION, SO I KNOW IT'S NOT THOSE. I HAVE DELETED ANY LARGE, UNUSED PROGRAMS.
Have only tried this on XP Pro but it works great. Decreased my login time from 2mins to 15secs. Increased my network speed (ex. 170MB file took 15-20min. Now the same 170MB file takes less than 2mins). WOW!Here it is... Go into your network properties and then into your TCP/IP settings. Add your Server's IP address as Prefered DNS Server. Then select you Advanced button, go into your WINS tab and insert your Server's IP address for your WINS address as well. Reboot the system and you SHOULD see a difference. I have already tried this on several systems and have seen the same increase in speed
I turned my computer on, and for maybe 10 minutes after i turned it on (when i got my homework done) I couldnt connect to my mail with Outlook, when i opened Firefox, all i could get was google, and i could search for something, but i couldnt go to any website. So i decided to try IE and it has been working so far, but it go slower than a 100 year old women. Could this be a virus or something?
XP Home reboots in the 3+ minute range. Once it gets to the 'Starting Windows XP' screen, it loads fine. Some damnthing is hanging.MY comp is running slow. Expeciially on the net. Task manager is reporting no excess network use. IE 6 acts like it's on a 56k modem. I use Mozilla FireFox, which runs fine, but my wife is a IE 6 fanatic. Shareaza and WinMX load slowly and take a minute or more to change tabs. BitTornado (latest versions all) loads and runs fine, but seems to hang after an hour or so. It stops updating speeds, seeds, peers, etc. It also closes slowly. Once I get online, the comp slams on the brakes. Mozilla is the only app that seems unaffected. Sygate is also logging a lot of portscans. 7 in the in the last hour or so. All from the same IP address.
I run xp sp2 IE6 Comcast BB.I had this happen before and I don't remember how I fixed it, I may have gotten completely rid of Real. But this is a new day maybe a year or so later, NOW I do have Real Arcade again and the puky Realplayer and now again on my Comcast homepage in the lower left corner I am getting that little yellow warning Icon. Wehen I double click it I am told my page may not be dislaying right, and then when I go get details its obviously tied up with RealMedia ads and maybe Symantec ?? heres what the details say: Line 48 Char 3 Error 'SymRealWinOpen" is undefined Code: 0 then this which takes me nowhere: url:http://oascentral.comcast.net/REalMe. the numbers in the long url are always different but everything around them is exactly the same.
I am running Win XP SP2 on a 2.8 GHertz Pentium system with 1 GB memory. I am using the Hosts file from the MVPS web site. It's size is about 274KB. I have a Comcast cable connection. The MVPS web site states that a Hosts file larger than 135 KB may cause Internet Explorer to slow down and suggests changing the Startup Type of the DNS Client service from Automatic to Manual. However, as far as I can tell IE's performance does not obviously change if I disable Hosts (by renaming it) or change the Statup Type of the DNS Client service. I would character IE's performance in general as good to very good.
My friend did a windows recovery after he had a black screen when starting windows. Both IE and Firefox had slow connectivity yet I had him do a speedtest with speakeasy.net and it showed good speeds. He says the longer the computer is on, the slower is a surfing the internet. CPU usage is normal.
internet speeds: 2500kbps/400kbps
Could the recovery have messed with his computer networking drivers? He used a gateway recovery disk. His computer is either a gateway or dell computer.
I'm connecting my iphone to usb and get the "this device can perform faster...." message telling me to disconnect from the current port and connect to a hi speed port I know which is hi speed port, but cant figure out how to disconnect and then reconnect it

I have been trying to speed up my computer. I've defraged, scanned, deleted unnecessary files, etc. I have Windows XP. Here is my hijack this log if that is of use. I would appreciate any help. Most programs seem to be running faster - but IE is still sluggish.
Is there a way in XP, or in BIOS on a computer running XP, to check the actual FSB speed? Is it indicated in BIOS? I have a vague memory of checking it once but I can't remember if I checked it on the machine or just read the number in the manual.
If BIOS, or another source on the machine, tells you an FSB speed, is that the actual current clocked speed, or is that some kind of factory standard number that the MoBo provides as a spec?
I'm having some confusion as to what my actual FSB speed is. The manual says it's 400 on some Dimension 2400 machines but 266 on mine, but I swear I read XP or BIOS telling me it was 400. If there's a way to check directly I'd like to do that.
I freshly re-installed my window xp home edition. Unfortunately, can't get my USB to work at 2.0 speed. all of them at USB1.0 speed now. My XP is SP3 and frequently updated. I've tried to update USB driver through Device Manager but still does not solve the problem. Now, the file transfers take hours.
I have a DELL Precision 360 PC with 2 Hard Drives of 500GB, three CD/DVD Drives and 3GB of RAM. My processor is Intel(R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz and four 21" Monitors. I have Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 3. Two Graphic cards: GeForce 7300GS and GeForce 6200..My question is: which are the top tips, the best tips to speed the system up?
I have a quick question. And thank you all by the way. Everyone is so helpful here! ( I am new oh and inexperienced at computers!) I want to speed up my computer. i was reading a book and it said there are some tools to help speed it up such as disc cleanup, Disk Defragmenter, and Chkdsk?? My computer is really slow so im trying to see whats wrong with it. I have done all the virus stuff. Oh and I deleted a lot of unused programs which I thought would make it so much faster and free up some space but when I went back under the C folder in program files, it was only like one less mb or gb whatever it is. haha cant you see im not that good with this stuff! Anyway, for disc cleanup... will that speed it up? I dont want to delete anything. Will it delete stuff? as for the chkdsk. should I do that to see whats wrong and what is disk defrag. Should I do that.
Got xp sp2 and the problem is it takes so long to do anything and it freezes and locks when open more then one browser why is this? What can download to make it run quicker?
