How To Back Up Programs?
May 14, 2008Is there any way I can back up the programs I have installed on my computer without having to go through the whole process with the installation CDs?

How To Get Programs & Icons Back
Jun 22, 2009When I start my PC the only thing that appears is the wallpaper and the mouse arrow which does move but no right click. I've tried SafeMode and get only the words Safe Mode in four corners so I can't do a system restore. I've tried restoring to last known good configuration but I get the wallpaper again.The only thing I can think of doing is a full restoration but I have 300 itunes on my hardrive which are paid for.
If anyone has an idea how to get my programs & icons back, I'll try anything.
Programs Will Not Install / Goes Back To The Standard Cursor
Sep 8, 2006I finally broke down and went from W2K Pro to XP Pro on my new build. Almost all my apps have installed just fine but two that I need will not. They are NetObjects Fusion 7 and Adobe Elements 2.0. Both are fairly new, around 2002 or 3 releases and both are rated for XP but once I launch the setup.exe the hourglass shows for about 5 seconds and then goes back to the standard cursor. I checked the Task Manager and in both cases setup.exe is loaded and running and I have to End Process to try the setup again but the same thing happens each time to both apps. They both installed fine and I've been using them for years on my W2K Pro machine.

May 22, 20072005 MCE WIN XP, if i go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, and scan thru my programs, the amount of time to scroll thru programs is about 3-4 seconds, before it closes out, also RENAMING a folder, on desktop, same thing happens, for instance, renaming a folder PICTURES, i get to PIC, then it kicks me out. I have OPtical wireless mouse, replaced batteries with fully charged ones, no difference, also mouse 12 inches from reciever.

Mar 24, 2008I did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.

I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? When I attempt to uninstall a program, the corresponding programs "uninstaller", asks for a network resource. The message says to wait while the list is being populated but nothing ever shows up. From what I have read, it sounds like a registry problem but I don't have a clue how to fix it. Mar 31, 2006Had to reinstall Windows XP. It appears there are issues with SP2 involving the video graphics card and the sound. Now I'm stuck. I thought that if I chose "do not use this device" under "Device usage" on the display adaptor tab, that it would pick the right adaptor.
Anyway, my screen went blank and I tried to reboot in safe mode and it sticks at mup.sys. I disabled mup and it now sticks at "nid" something or other.
I use "Windows Narrator" to try and reenable the adaptor but I think the reinstall or the SP2 killed my sound.
Is there a way to reenable VGA adaptor from the command prompt in recovery mode?
