I have just set up TightVNC on my home machine which is running XP Home edition. It is my first experience using VNC with port forwarding from a router (I have comcast for internet access and a SpeedStream 2623 wireless router connecting my cable modem to my PC). When I try to establish a connection from a client, it will pause for maybe 10 seconds and then return with a "Failed to connect to server" dialog. The puzzling thing is that I turned on logging for the server and from the log file it looks like it's connecting just fine.
Could U Plz Tell Me How To Connect Ibm System X 2000 Based Server And Xp Nodes Through 2000 Domain So When I Give Password In The Nodes And Enter It Gets Connected To The Servers Domain
failed on my laptop with Win XP Pro. I have been trying to manually remove Norton Internet Security, with little success so far, and find now that I cannot connect to the internet either through my wireless or LAN at the office. Thsi must be something simple? Quick and easy to correct? Each time I do a repair on the LAN connection I receive a message "flushing the ARP cache" failed etc.
When I try to install updates from Microsoft's site I get an error saying "Updates were not successfully installed." This happens during both manual and automatic updating. I search google.com high and low and cannot find a fix that works. This is the specific error from the WindowsUpdate.log FATAL: Error: 0x80070005. wuauclt handler: failed to spawn COM server FATAL: 0x80070005: ERROR: Remote update handler container process created (PID: 1656), but exited before signaling event
Anyway, I have a legacy COM service, a COM server that runs as a windows service, that was written for Windows NT 4.0. I have managed to use the service on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP unchanged. However, I now wish to run the service on a Windows Server 2003 machine and I can't seem to get it to work.
I mark 'from device', click the '...' button & select 'File' in the dropdown, then brows to the file itself. Under 'select the backup sets to restore' I check the only checkbox there, then in the 'To Database' I select the name of the database in the file (a new DB name appears there as you select the file).
XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it
I am currently working on a project and I am in need of a way to run applications off of a central server from an XP client. The applications that need to be run are from the Microsoft Office package. This is for a school project, if more information is needed I can try to provide it
I'm looking at setting up windows 2003 terminal servers all over the place to replace the awful thing people are currently doing here - vncing servers with one small shared password among everyone <holding my hands over my ears for the backlash>. Don't blame me, it's another awful legacy I have to get rid of...
1. I've got to set up a Terminal Server Licensing server and was thinking about putting this on my second domain controller. I was wondering what would happen in this server dies, though. Is there some way of having resilience in this scenario? Perhaps a second Licensing server or something, the way you have 2 or more Domain Controllers?
hi everybody.every since i install sp2 on my pc ,kazaa lite has a problem with connection.it keeps trying connecting but it reemains on trying, even if i let for 2 hours
I shut down system restore and went into safe mode to clean out spyware, ect. In safe mode, spybot,i used ewiedo, smit, adware. i dont recall but i think spybot was the only program to find an item. When i rebooted in normal XP, i have been unable to connect IE6,Weatherbug,Widgets to my wireless connection. However Firefox is connecting pretty good, atlhough my wireless program is funny, its telling me there is no internet connection as i surf I tried 'internet options' such as resetting IE, i tried that scannow command. again, i dont have the system restore option to use. but also yahoo widgets are not connectiong nor weathebug.
I'm setting up my friends home network. They have 2 PCs connected via ethernet and one laptop on wireless. The router is a wireless router / modem from 2wire. PC number 2 and the laptop both connect with no issues. PC number 1 is weird though. I can go to 192.168.1.254 and it opens up the router system page and I can go through and change and view settings. However when I try to go to any websites it immediately goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I have tried netscape and the iTunes store and nothing can connect to the web. I have linux ubuntu on a Live CD and I can boot from that and it connects to the internet just fine.
Laptop is running Windows XP Professional SP2. Server is tunning SBS 4.5 and Windows NT 4.0. I have two locations with two different gateway IP Addresses. I have connected to each server by changing the domain and IP address. Received messsage "welcome to _____ domain". I connect to network, see all the computers, but can not "map" my drive back to the main server in the other location.I did turn off the windows firewall and made sure all my WINS, etc. was correct. I can not ping the server in the other location. I can ping the server I am currently connected to, and am supposed to be able (can on 2000) to map a drive back to our other office.
ran a Repair of windows XP on a machine that was fully updated and working fine. When it finished it says that the copy of windows is not genuine and it needs to be activated. So it tries to activate says there is a problem with the RPC Server. (0x000006ba) and then BSOD's. Safe mode loads fine. it still says the copy of windows is not genuine and cannot start the services to try and get it activated. I have tried running the repair again and SFC cannot run without the RPC Service so thats not an option.
I found that SBS has a 1 time deal to use the key, and then even if installing on the same machine, you have to call to get a new key. I wrote down the key and wonder if I can reactivate a reinstall using the same key. I am hoping I do not need to do a scratch install, but if I do, I dont want to have to call the indians if I dont need to.
I have a small home LAN setup (2 PC's - 1 Windows XP Home and 1 Windows 98SE) and I want to be able to use a terminal server like solution so that I can run everything on the XP machine but be on the 98 machine.I've explored solutions like VNC which work well except I need to be able to log into a SEPERATE user account while someone else is currently logged into theirs on the XP machine. For example, my XP machine has two accounts: anthony and charlene. Let's say charlene is currently physically at the xp machine and logged into her account. How can I, from the 98 machine, connect to the Xp machine and log into my account?
I Setup a user on Server A {Names for Examples} and setup user shares on Server A with no problems. I login to Server B and go to setup a share, Server B shows the user as Disabled in the permissions.
But Server A where the active directory is shows it as enabled and the network allows the user to login.
It seems to be just a display bug. Or is it something more?
I own two computers: a stationary with a lot of power, and a notebook with barely any power. Basically, I want to have my stationary do all of the thinking at home and just send my notebook audio and video of what's going on while allowing me to control it, at a low latency. I'd love to know how I could go about setting this up
running (in system services tab of msconfig) when machine is set to be Home/Home Office desktop (NOT set as server)? The machine is for personal use and does not support a site nor other constant 2 way use to web. It does occasionally share it's cable router with a laptop (mostly just to update protectors on laptop).Would stopping this service help speed up machine? Would it cause any harm or malfunction (are there other items this non-server usage needs that are dependent)?
When shutting down my PC last night I got a DDE WINDOW SERVER NOT RESPONDING. END NOW message? I have never had it before and the only way I could shut down my PC was to end the task.

I have a Dell 4700 computer running Windows XP operating system and I am attempting to install the MSN SQL Server program from the MSN Office 2003 disk. At the first step of installation I received the following message: "A strong SA password is required for security reasons. Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same. Refer to readme for more details. Setup will now exit." What is a strong SA password and how do I access the SAPWD switch to get the password? I read the readme and it didn't have anything about a SA strong password nor about the SAPWD switch.

I have Windows Server 2003 on my laptop and would like to 'downgrade' it with Windows XP Professional. The CD-ROM (XP OS nstallation) does not allow my to INSTALL XP (cannot select the on) maybe because downgrades are not allowed. I also tried to reformat my hard-disk and install XP from scratch. My laptop have just one drive (C: drive). When I force to boot from my CD-ROM (BIOS settings), nothing happens Boot error
