When I try to login in to IE and tell windows Xp to safe my user name & password. It will let me open IE but if I close it and reopen it. It asks for my user name & password again.

I can bring up its login page if I connect the office Windows 2000 PC directly to it via an ethernet cable and type the router IP address in the address line in Internet Explorer.However, at home, if I connect my Windows XP Home edition PC directly to the router with the same ethernet cable, and use the same router IP addreess to try and access the login page, it cannnot access it.The onboard etherent connection is working and I have the same network protocols installed on the XP PC, and have disabled the Windows Firewall but I still cannot bring up the login page.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just finished installing Windows XP Home OEM, created my account and clicked to log in when, to my complete surprise, I was prompted to enter my password.
Nobody was in the room while the XP software was installing, and I didn't create a password for my account (I didn't even have the option), so absolutely nobody at my house knows what the password is. I already checked the documentation that came with the software and it doesn't mention any password.
I have two computers & so I don't frequently use the one I am having the problem with. It is a Dell Inspiron 1000 Laptop Running Windows XP Home/newbie so pls be patient..Anyway, the Dell got infected with the NSIS Media Trojan & I tried everything to remove it including but not limited to Webroot spy sweeper. It would quarantine it but apparently this thing regenerates in the registry. Therefore, I decided I needed to really secure my system & so since I am the only user, I deleted the non-admin logon account & set up the admin account with a password. I wrote it down but have lost the paper which I had written the password on. The hint is not helping me remember it exactly so I'm locked out.

I've been stupid and messed up whilst trying to get my bluetooth to work. I have windows XP Pro and did something in the bluetooth settings that needed me to restart my computer. When I did it had a screen with guest 1 showing and asking for a password. I haven't ever put one on so now I am gutted as I don't know what to do. Keep in mind:I have no access to reboot with the original motherboard(fried) I have 4 Legal copies of XP on 4 computers (including the fried one) I have lost the disk and the XP serial number for that machine. I ran the network setup wizard on both computers, when i go to 'view workgroup computers' and click on the one i want to connect to i am asked for a password, i tried the admin password and the password for the user that ran the wizard -- neither worked .

I need to configure the "Passworw Never Expires" option using the command line.
I had success by setting other options as "Account is disabled" and "User cannot change password". But this option is really making me sad.
I am currently trying to set up a log in for xp where the user changes based upon only the password you enter. in other words there will only be one user and it will change based upon the password you enter. i also want to be able to tell who logged on and when.
for example say i setting up a business computer that 20 people will use but i don't want 20 accounts i only want one and each people will have a different password and based upon the password they enter i will be able to tell who downloaded what and installed what by knowing who logged on. thanks for the help
I have just installed a linksys wireless router onto my desktop computer to add a wireless laptop and for some reason, when the User Logon screen comes up. The hand cursor never becomes a cursor for me to type in passowords to user accounts. I went into safe mode and then into control panel and deleted the passwords for each user acct and now I can get into the accounts but how can I add the passwords again and be able to type them in. We have 3 user accounts on this pc and would like to have them password protected.

Here are more details: It's a Dell Inspiron 2100 and the operating system is windows 2000 professional. The laptop does not include a CD or Floppy drive but it has 1 USB port. now when my Brother bought the laptop we powered it on and it worked fine until a "Log On to Windows" box appear and you need to type a user name and password to log in but we don't have the password and we cannot contact the guy he bought the laptop from so what should we do?
