I was cleaning my computer of some malware and when I rebooted the computer asked for a password. I never had a password before. No matter what I enter it will not allow me to log in,even in safe mode it asks for a password! I do not want to re-install and lose all of my data. Is there any way to bypass the password and get into xp. I am running XP SP2 on a Dell laptop with a celeron M processor.

I've been stupid and messed up whilst trying to get my bluetooth to work. I have windows XP Pro and did something in the bluetooth settings that needed me to restart my computer. Keep in mind:I have no access to reboot with the original motherboard(fried) I have 4 Legal copies of XP on 4 computers (including the fried one) I have lost the disk and the XP serial number for that machine. I want to install a new primary hard drive and reinstall windows xp from scratch on the new c: drive. For the moment I would also like to retain the old disc contents and the xp operating system. To try to do this I installed a second hard drive and cloned the old drive c: to the new drive f:. I created a dual boot computer by editing my boot.ini file so I could boot from either the c: or f: drive. I replaced my primary hard drive with a new drive and booted up in the f: drive. Then I cloned the f: drive back to the new c: drive creating a dual boot system. My concern now is that if I reinstall windows xp on the newly installed hard drive, the Dell installation disk will wipe out the operating system and the contents on the f: drive. Is there any way to retain the old system? I'd appreciate any help with this.

To do it without using the cd it has to copy the installation files to the computer and then run them. When setup does this it creates a new choice of an operating system to boot from called "Windows XP Setup." So now I have a Windows XP and a Windows XP setup. Am now able to access the Samba shares from my Windows Vista machine WITHOUT entering username/password for my Samba user because I made a Samba user equal to my Vista windows user "masterdam79".
I WAS able to select the "Remember my password" checkbox on my Vista machine, first time I logged on into the Ubuntu server and now I never have to type in the credentials again on that machine.
i have try to using my friends Bootable cd to reset(clear) my windows XP professional "administrator" password, because i forgot that administrator password. This tools very powerfull, just boot this cd while power on the pc, than will erase the administrator password, after that can login administrator account as no password needed, than can go to system change and remember again the new administrator password. View 1 Replies View Relatedthe closest we have found to our same problem is number on thread t350665..background one of our customers has run into a problem: they have been using XPhome for about a year, SP2 installed smoothly and has run well for a few months, they turned on automatic update, it installed, then next boot:problem it asked them for logon password where there was, previously, no (more specifically, blank) password. We tried booting into safe mode as admin, it also asked for a password where there was none. We have not found a default password, none of the defaults we knew for other microsoft products seem to work. The closest thing to a solution we have found is KB321305, but this article assumes they made a password disk (which they didn't, I think because they were not as suspicious of microsoft as I am), nor have admin priviledge, because the OS (or some updated part of it) seems to have forced a password on ALL accounts where they were all previously blank, so we can't even start in safe mode. They do not relish wiping their OS and starting over, and neither do I.

First off, i have a 60gb ide drive for my windows installation (3 other drives for storage), and i got a 150gb Raptor X, which is sata. I cloned the 60gb boot drive onto the raptor, but it didnt boot, and said the HAL was corrupt. My guess would be that the hardware abstraction layer got all defunct when it saw the new sata drive, but was expecting an ide? After all that, i decided to run a chkdsk on the ide drive, and clone it again, to see if it booted. I used the recovery console on a windows xp pro disc, but alas, i couldnt chkdsk because i forgot my admin password. Stupid me.

During System startup, the system always halts at "Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility". The only way I can manage to boot to Windows is by selecting "Boot to utility partition" from the Boot Device Menu or if there is a Windows XP installation CD in the cd-rom drive. When I boot this way, everything works fine .This behavior started when I performed a fresh install of XP Professional (XP Home came with the system). The problem did not start immediately after the installation; I was able to install some drivers and reboot a couple times (maybe twice) before it happened. When I installed the display driver (from Dell) and rebooted, it went to the "Strike F1. " screen. I have since tried another fresh installation of XP Home (the original OS) and the problem is still occuring. This time it occurs immediately after the installation; No drivers have been installed at this point.
