When I turn on the computer, at the welcome screen it asks me to choose user. Administrator is the only option. I don't have a password and the password hint only says Me. How do I get the password that I need?

My computer wont turn off 1st time. The 1st time i press the 'turn off' button, the screen flashs, as if its getting ready to turn off, but then nothing happens. When i repeat the procedure again, it does turn off.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a dell dimension 8250 3 years old I just had a nvidia gforce 128 mb graphics card put in to replace a burned out 64 bit card,now I just noticed the next day that when I right click anywhere on the desktop screen except on a folder or program-the cursor become an hourglass and it freezes pemanantly I cant even turn the comp off to shut it down I have to use the on off button.Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong?

I have a Compaq Presario 5320 US, XP Pro, 768 MB Ram 1.5 GHz CPU. It works fine until I shut it down. Then I get a Black Windows screen that says "It is now safe to turn off your computer" I have updated the bios. Anyway to fix this so I don't have to manually press the button to power it off at that point?

When I try to turn on the computer I get a black screen that appears stating that Windows did not shut down properly and how would I like to restart the computer. There are then five options available to chose from (3 Safe Modes options, last known configuration, and normally). I have attempted all five with no good outcome.
I do get the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Set using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair"....
I downloaded some windows updates but not all of them installed. When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.

Everything went well as expected except for one thing.When I turn on my computer, the acer logo appears then a page appears again which asks me to choose whether to start windows xp or repair it using USB. I have to always click the start windows xp before the windows logo appears and everyhting in windows is alright. I dont know how to fix this so that after the acer logo appears, windows logo comes next then desktop.

I uninstalled it shortly thereafter however, every time I boot up, the computer asks me which copy of XP I want to use. so i tried to delete i couldnt ... eventually it got deleted by software "unlocker" but as i log in again an error as "please contact system administrator as klgina.dll is missing'.. i got that back again by system restore..
In recently restoring my crashed machine, I noticed that when the machine was
idle, it would go back to the user login screen. I found this tedious as I
just wanted it to go to screen saver but stay within the user session. I ran
'control userpasswords2' and de-clicked 'Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer.' (It's a home computer so not worried). Now
when I reboot, it brings up a Windows login for Administrator and says,
"Unable to log you on because of an account restriction." I can bypass that
and log in as Owner or anybody else so it's more cosmetic than anything else.Question - who is this "Administrator?" The account doesn't show up under
User Accounts. 'Owner' is the Administrator. Do I care about this account
(which appears to be hidden? Should I allow it to log in under the covers? If
so, do I have to re-click 'Users must enter a user name and password, etc."
my computer take about 10 minutes to load. It takes about 5 minutes to get to the user screen, and another 5 from there. This computer uaully would boot in around 1 min.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a older Imb laptop modle T23 computer and when I shut it down rather then using standby it takes several times trying to get it to come back on. I press the little round on/off button and the (z) button lights up and I hear the fan turn on and all of a sudden a series of beeps, and the screen won't turn on. The beeping is like 8 beeps, then stops but still nothing come up on the screen. Completely black! So i turn off the computer again, and turn on same thing. I continue doing this like 30+ times sometimes more sometimes less, then finally the beeps dont start and the screen is working. So needless to say its still working in the mean time, but its just such a pain if I shut it down. . For now I am just going to continue using standby but when I have updates sometimes i need to shut down.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm building a new computer here, and i'm using a previously owned mobo. I'm having an issue getting pass the BIOS spalsh screen and into the boot menu so i could bootup and install windows. I have no beeps at all. every component of this computer is brand new except for the motherboard. I try to go into the setup and i get the dialogue, "Entering Setup..." but it just stays frozen like that.
I know i have to Clear CMOS and i removed the CMOS battery for almost 3 days and nothing at all. i cannot find the CMOS jumper. i see a jumper near the CMOS battery but it isnt labeled clr cmos. i removed it and put it on the 2nd and 3rd pin and the machine doesnt even turn on, but when i locate it back to the 1st and 2nd pin, it turns on perfectly fine, but i still cannot get past the startup screen
the screen i cannot get past looks similar to the image below.
