View 4 RepliesWhen I turn on the computer it goes to the Windows XP screen, there it prompts you to log in as Administrator or Guest. I can log in as a guest, but I can't change nothing or do anything else there. I want to log in as the administrator. How can I get the Administrator's password, or change it to a new one?

not.
hello, on my computer my 8 yr old put a account on it which was fine, it is a admi. account, well today she changed the password to get in from the welcome window, well is there a way i can get in it and change the password better yet take it off? we are using xp home.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThis is an intermittant problem. I am running WinXP Pro SP2. When I boot my machine, everything works great. The bootup is good, the welcome screen shows everything and everything seems to be normal. Well, once I logout of the account that I am using, which can be any any account including the admin, I am returned to the welcome screen, but when I click on a password protected account, the password box appears with no cursor and I cannot enter anything. If I reboot the machine the welcome screen goes back to working and then it will mess up when i logout again. I can do the ctr+alt+del and login with any account that way, I am just needing to know if this is a corrupt file somewhere that needs to be reloaded or something. I have checked the PC for Virus's with AVG 7.5 Network Edition, and have also checked for spyware and adware with Spybot and Ad-aware scans. No virus's were found and only negligable items were found in the adware scans.
View 14 Replies View RelatedIt retains the password and I can go online also can receive and send email messages. I deleted my orginal internet connection and set up a new one but the login box still keeps reappearing all the time. I have run scans for viruses, trojans etc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP computer (Dell Optiplex).I cannot log in to the admin account. I can click on the user then click on the password box.A larger than-normal black rectangle appears as the cursor, but when I type keys they are not 'remembered'.I can hold ctrl-alt-del and get the older style log in.I can use the mouse to select the name and the password boxes but I have the same problem with the cursor and the keyboard characters are still not remembered/indicated.It does not let me delete or overwrite the user name in the name box.At the 'to begin' screen,if I click on an account/user that has no password, the system logs me in and the keyboard works fully. Also, the keyboard works in BIOS setup.I have tried both PS/2 and USB keyboards: they work except for login as described above.Problems like this have been reported before but the only solution seems to be install Windows XP from scratch which I would very much like to avoid.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI didn't want to enter the password at the welcome menu everytime I boot up my computer so I tried to disable it in the user accounts located in the Control Panel. When I clicked on my account and clicked on remove my password, it didn't allow me. Follow this step to remove it.1. Go to Control panel 2. Click administrative tools3. Local Security Settings4. Click Minimum password length5. Reduce it to 0, No password required6. Go to user account in control panel click your account and remove password. This will disable the password feature. Have fun.

Nobody was in the room while the XP software was installing, and I didn't create a password for my account (I didn't even have the option), so absolutely nobody at my house knows what the password is. I already checked the documentation that came with the software and it doesn't mention any password.
This morning I come to my computer and it asked me for a password to login to windows. The funny thing about that is it I have never had a password. So I tried a cold reboot. no luck. Then I tried safe mode. same thing happens and I get asked for a password. The name of the window that comes up says "Log On to Windows". By the way I have XPpro. There are no name to pick from at the log on screen and nothing happens whe I click on the options button. Usually when you logon there are your own name plus an adminstrators account but I dont see any of this. Can someone please help I am desperate. I am a book keeper and I have all my clients books on there with no backup.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is running XP SP2. There are two accounts created, one for myself and one for my partner. Both accounts have administrator privileges. Yesterday my partner was unable to login, as XP rejected every attempt with a "have you forgotten your password" balloon. I logged-in OK on my account, changed the password (but used the same value as before) on her account, then logged-out. This time she could log in OK. Same problem happened again this morning!! Once corrected as above, then she can login in/out without problem.
It is not the obvious things of finger-trouble, Caps Lock ON by mistake etc etc - checked all those. First time it occurred was shortly after a violent thunderstorm, so I wondered if electrical interference had caused a corruption somewhere, but everything else seems OK and there was not another storm this morning.
I bought a computer from a co-worker who just recently left to go to bootcamp. When I bought the computer from him it was just the system and monitor, no disc or anything. To make a long story short his username and password are still in the computer. I have no way of getting in contact with him and he hasn't contacted his parents yet either. Is there a way I can change the login password or bypass it even? Remember I'm running XP Pro.
View 2 Replies View Relatedafter one user logs out, I select my account at the login screen, and there is no cursor in the password box, and it won't accept any text. The only thng that works is to restart.it's an administrator account. No new software for several months. no new
hardware except for Linksys wireless access point and router one month ago.I'm thinking reparative reinstall, but I'm relatively new to XP (though I was thought of as the "go to" guy for 95/98), so I'm looking for some experience to learn from.
Started up my computer yesterday morning and when it got to the windows login screen, i could click on my user to type my password in and then when i tried to type my password in none of the keys were working, the only keys that were working were the buttons G13,G14,G15,G16,G17,G18. (but i have know idea what they are typing) I have a Logitech g15 Keyboard, all the lights come on, i can go into bios and use every key just fine, can turn numlock, scrolllock and caps lock on and off untill it displays the windows loading screen, then the keyboard kinda freezes and i can no longer turn them on or off -_- , Ive tried everything, 3 diff keyboards, including a non usb one. Tried my other harddrive, Same Issues.Running winxp sp2.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can not log into my hotmail account, my yahoo.ca account and some sites that are password logins. I can log into my profile page for yahoo, I can change the password on both so I know the login id is correct and the password is correct, but when I try to login to the mailbox, it says the password is incorrect. What is crazy is that I can login to other password login sites such as my online stock trading account and other sites...
but for yahoo, msn (hotmail) and some others, such as a forum web sites, etc. there is some glitch that does not recognize the correct password and let me in. One site asked why I hadn't logged in for a while and sent me login id and password, but when I went there and tried to log in ... could not. I keep getting same login page it is as if the password is not catching... strange way to put it, but with right login id and right password, why will it not recognize and continue on instead of kicking up the same window over and over?..............
I've lost the password to my xp pro system, can anyone tell me how to bypass the login screen and make another password?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have trawled the Internet and cannot find a solution to my fickle problem. its not a very big problem, but more of an annoyance really.on my computer, i am running windows xp home edition, sp2 with only 1 user account. i prefer the newer windows xp login screen (where you click the user to get in) rather than type in the user name and i have the single account passworded. up until recently, while at this login screen, i would not be required to click on my profile in order to activate the blinking character for password entry. if i wanted to log in, i simply turned on the computer and when it was ready, i would simply enter the password because the box would be active.now however, my computer has decided that i have to move the mouse over to my profile space and click on it to activate. i know its not very much to have to move the mouse, but i tend to use only keyboard commands to navigate myself around windows due to its speed advantages.

View 6 Replies View Relatedmy mum is running XP with Tiscali broadband. More often than not, when she tries to connect she is asked for her password ( we have tried clicking remember password!) but then is told it is not recognised. After several tries worth of helpline phone calls they take her thru the whole setting up procedure again & she is connected.
A few days later the same thing happens again!
Is this a money making ploy by Tiscali? Or is there something ( virus?) that could be causing the password to become unrecognised?
i forgot the password to the only account on the computer and I need to know how to get around it.
