I'm played with the folder options over and over and for some reason ever though I have clicked open folder in same window and "launch folder window in a separate process" is NOT clicked, for some reason when I double click to open a folder it still opens it with a new window. Also, under file types it won't let me edit or remove the commands for folder, drive, and file folder.
The windows Explorer search feature works well enough for most file searches except when looking for files on a disc. On those occasions, the In Folder results point not to the disc drive but to c:documents & settings[name]Local Settings Applications Data. In short, not to where the files are. To add insult to fubar, clicking on any folder in the list results in -- absolutely nothing because I am clicking on a phantom folder (duh). I know that if I scroll across to the right, miles outside the screen view, I'll finally see where the file in question actually resides -- major and unappreciated pain. Is there a config or reg edit somewhere that will allow me to set the In Folder to show the file where it actually is, referencing the disc drive, instead of the above c:. If not, at the very least, I think Microsoft should share some of what the Einstein was smoking the day he came up with this one.
It all started a few weeks ago when I could not move a folder to the recycle bin because it "could not find it". This week i did somehow get it to move there, but when i tried to delete it for good I got the same error. So i used Tune-Up Utilities 2008 in an attempt to get rid of it. The folder is gone, but the error remains. I think the bin is not working properly anymore either. I moved some folders of music to the recycle bin but they weren't there yet rar files i had deleted were. I have tried many many different commands, and a "restore recycle bin" registry edit, and safe mode.
I am trying to copy my Quicken files and it states it automatically copies them in the Windows XP's temporary CD burning folder. How do I find this folder to copy these files onto a CD or DVD.

I recently uninstalled Windows SP3 RC1 from my computer and reverted back to Windows SP2 through the use of Projekt (Project) Dakota. Before uninstallation though, one of my siblings had run this script to update to Windows SP3 RC2. I do not want to install the newest RC2, as I'm now waiting for a final release. I changed my Windows Update Settings to download but to not install, as it was already downloaded from yesterday. Is there anyway to remove the already downloaded but not installed update for Windows SP3 RC2, and is there anyway to remove the script (that tells the computer to download SP3 RC2?)
Does anyone know hoe to remove the startup folder from the start menu.I am customising the startup menu by deleting the contents of the startup menu and then copying down the shortcuts when each user logs in.The only folder i cannot not get rid of is the startup folder. Even if i delete the folder it recreates its self!
I only wanted to keep 3 or 4 fonts on my computer so I drag n dropped my Fonts folder to my D drive (CD burner). I decided not to do this after all and figured I'd delete the temporary folder from my D drive but it will not remove 2 of the fonts: arialbi and micross, so now I'm stuck with a temporary folder in my D drive. I booted up in safe mode and tried to delete them and can't do it that way, either. How do I get rid of this temporary folder?
My write protection seems to be activated on all folders. The box where the check is supposed to be is blackened and when I click to remove it, it goes away. However when I try to remove the folder an error pops up and when I bring up the properties again it shows the box is blackened again.I don't seem to have a problem with files, it only seems to be the folders.

In previously highlighted issues regarding backing-up shared documents to my Seagate Freeagent hard drive, I simply decided to move the My Music Folder from the shared documents folder, but Windows is disallowing me from doing this stating that My Music is a Windows system folder & cannot be renamed or removed? Any help please on getting around this to move My Music from the shared documents? I'm running XP with servce pack 3.
I have a shared folder which contains many folders for many users on my network and to make users folders recognisable we chose to fix a folder picture of every folder with the picture of the folder owner. The problem is that those folders never have a constant folder picture on all of my network computers as the picture always changes for some reason, I've tried to set permissions on thumb.db file
I'm absolutely dumbstruck by what just happened. I was a little too quick with my clicking, and instead of opening the folder containing my pictures, I dragged it into another folder called "14941b93d3ad9f41aa7df524fe". I will refer to it as the folder of doom. The folder contains two sub-folders
I have a recurring problem on Folder Views / Folder Types that has been bugging me for a long time. You can customize a folder with a "folder type" - Documents, Pictures, Music, Video, etc - which comes with a default view and a list of default attributes most relevant to the type (artist and album title for music, dimension for video, etc). You can also setup so that the settings are "memorized". However, the memory seems to be quite short term for some of my folders. They tend to randomly reset themselves and there seems to be a consistent but unrecognizable pattern. For example, my "My Documents" folder is always changed to a pictures folder, while some of my music folders are changed to video
I was just changing some folder icons in Folder Options>File Types and now when I click on a folder it opens in OneNote! I went to File Types>File Folder>Advanced and under the Actions it reads: Add to VLC find Lock folder with Folder Lock Open as Notebook in OneNote Play with VLC
The first two of the 3 check boxes underneath are ticked. I have no idea what the default action was before, but I don't see anything resembling simply open a folder. Can anyone help me reset the default action or create a new one to open the folder?
i updated my windows XP home edition to service pack2, but i recently found out that my system32 folder is missing from C:WINDOWS.I also use search to look for it and i couldn't find it anywhere on My Computer.I have also been getting an Application error recently and i have noticed this after i deleted my AVG anti-virus (I'm not sure whether deleting AVG was the problem). The error says:"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.Sometimes the application is rundll32.exe, explorer.exe and when i turn on my computer it says that the error is userinit.exe at the welcome screen.
Is there a way to duplicate data from the OE store folder into another folder in an automatic way, so that there is always an updated backup available?
For some reason, the right-click context menu on any of my folders now defaults to Search..., but this is not in my Folder or File Folder in File Types. I will post an HJT log if needed.
I need to create two unqiue shortcuts that will copy two different folders contents and overwrite to another folder (including all sub-folders & files). The destination folder/subs will be the same location for both of the other two folders being copied.

i went to tools---->folder options----->file types----->[NONE]file folder------advanced
i then bolded "enqueue in winamp" and clicked "set default" then clicked ok. every file folder i click on, the default action is enqueue in winamp.i was having a problem with my right click context menu and winamp wasnt an option(i uninstalled winamp, reinstalled, went into options, everything to no avail).SO i thought this may do the trick in adding it to my right click options. How i can change this back to the default norm of clicking on the file folder and entering to see its contents
Like I said in the title. In one of my folders, (and only that particular one), all file and folder names are missing. I don't know if it's a design feature or a bug, but I really want those names back. Can it be caused by malware?
I got a file in a folder that I can't delete. When I try to do that always got the message that the file is in use. I already restarted the pc but it keeps saying the same thing. The file is not a system file, it's a normal user file.
