changed the properties of my folders, I want to issue one specific folder/subfolders with a password, but the 'Make this folder private' tickbox is greyed out and I cannot select it.
View 4 RepliesI recently upgraded my computer's CPU/Motherboard/RAM etc however, after plugging in my old hard drives, Windows failed to load. In an effort to save my old files I reinstalled windows XP on my secondary hard drive, hoping to access my original hard drive's files through the reinstalled version of windows. Everything went according to plan except when trying to access the old My Documents folder, and the computer says Access denied, probably because that folder was declared private on my old network and because the user account was password protected.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a new Dell computer with windows xp operating system. My old computer was a gateway with windows xp also. The mother board on the gateway crashed and I could not find a replacement thus I purchased the new dell. I extracted the hard drive from the gateway and installed in an external drive case. All works well and I am able to retreve data from the gate way hard drive with one exception. While the hard drive was installed in the gateway I elected to make some of the folders private, ie right click on folder, click on sharing and security and clicking on private. This worked fine in the gateway but when I installed in external hard drive I am getting an "access denied" error message when trying to open with the Dell.
View 1 Replies View RelatedYou know how you can set the properties of a folder by right clicking and selecting properties and then under the 'Customize' tab you can choose whether the folder is for Music, Photos or Videos, etc...? Well that ability is not available in the same way for the actual D: (second harddrive). Somehow Windows decided to make my entire D drive a Music folder so when I'm in the root folder for D: it doesn't have the option to "Make New Folder". Instead it shows "Play All" and actions for Music type folders. See photos: It needs to be "File and Folder Tasks" not "Music or Pictures Tasks" but how do you change this setting on a folder (or in this case, harddrive) if the Folder Properties do not have a Customize tab??

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy home pc is running slow and i wanted to do some poking around and I checked the folder properties for My Documents folder and it listed something like 3000 folders. However when I open it up there is roughly 20, at the most. Where are these other folders coming from? I do have show hidden folders. I also have a decent amount of mp3's, maybe a couple hundred folders there, but nothing in the 1000s range.
- How can i found out what all these folders are?
- Also can anyone recommend a do-it-yourself site/guide to tackle slow pc issues? I want to go thru my pc and delete all the unnecessary garbage that comes with it and what i don't need.
On the desktop, I dragged a folder to the edge to make it become a menu popup. That's fine, except that it pops up instantly whenever the mouse touches the edge (which is often for me). Is there a delay setting that will change it to delay so that I must hover a second before it activates? I tried the common add MenuShowDelay to HKCUControl PanelDesktop tweak and it doesn't affect it, just the start menu.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to unhide this folder and KEEP it unhidden because the backup software we are using cannot see hidden files. I go to properties, uncheck hide. It asks me if I want to unhide just the folder or all files and subfolders, I do all files and sub folders. No problem.Then, when I reboot, I go to check it, and it's hidden again.Is there any way to stop Windows from automatically hiding it on restart?

What i want to do is to make my Hard Disk Drive as my My Music folder: Whenever you click or go into My Music, it will act as a shortcut and head straight to the Hard Disk Drive. The reason for this is so I have a Hard Disk Drive full of music while my original HDD has all the other stuff. Also My Music is a special windows folder so I would like to keep that if possible when doing this.

You can customize a folder with a "folder type" - Documents, Pictures, Music, Video, etc - which comes with a default view and a list of default attributes most relevant to the type (artist and album title for music, dimension for video, etc). You can also setup so that the settings are "memorized". However, the memory seems to be quite short term for some of my folders. They tend to randomly reset themselves and there seems to be a consistent but unrecognizable pattern. i updated my windows XP home edition to service pack2, but i recently found out that my system32 folder is missing from C:WINDOWS.I also use search to look for it and i couldn't find it anywhere on My Computer.I have also been getting an Application error recently and i have noticed this after i deleted my AVG anti-virus (I'm not sure whether deleting AVG was the problem).The error says:"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.Sometimes the application is rundll32.exe, explorer.exe and when i turn on my computer it says that the error is userinit.exe at the welcome screen.
