On the desktop, I dragged a folder to the edge to make it become a menu popup. That's fine, except that it pops up instantly whenever the mouse touches the edge (which is often for me). Is there a delay setting that will change it to delay so that I must hover a second before it activates? I tried the common add MenuShowDelay to HKCUControl PanelDesktop tweak and it doesn't affect it, just the start menu.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI do most of the stuff using keyboard. So to open applications like calculator, paint etc. i just fire up run using the key comb 'windows key'+'R' and type calc or mspaint. How can I do that for new programs i install like VLC or Winamp? An example of non microsoft program that does this is Textpad. I just type 'textpad' for launching it. I'm wondering where does the 'run' command look for when i type a program there. I'm sure it looks some where else beyond the system path because textpad.exe is not there in the %path% but it still works.

It asks me if I want to unhide just the folder or all files and subfolders, I do all files and sub folders. No problem.Then, when I reboot, I go to check it, and it's hidden again.Is there any way to stop Windows from automatically hiding it on restart?

What i want to do is to make my Hard Disk Drive as my My Music folder: Whenever you click or go into My Music, it will act as a shortcut and head straight to the Hard Disk Drive. The reason for this is so I have a Hard Disk Drive full of music while my original HDD has all the other stuff. Also My Music is a special windows folder so I would like to keep that if possible when doing this.

I would prefer it be where "My Computer", "My Documents", etc is, but I would settle for where "Internet" and "E-Mail" currently are. I can successfully add apps to that area, but not folders. Lately when i try to open up My music from the startup menu it takes around 5 mins for it to open up, cpu usage goes thru the roof and almost locks up. View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I open up the Start Menu on one of the accounts, there is nothing in the left-hand column. When I right click and get the Properties, and try to Customize the Menu, the options don't save, and I'm stuck with nothing. I've tried clicking on the Internet radio button for "Show on Start Menu". I click Ok, then Apply, and Finally Ok again. But when I go back to the menu, it still has nothing in the left-hand column.
The second thing I've noticed was under Folder Options -> View, I tried to check both the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" button, and also un-check "Hide extensions for Known File Types" and click on Apply, then Ok again. But still, these options don't save and are reset back to "Do not show hidden files", and "hide extensions".
Today I had uninstalled several unused programs with the Add-Remove utility of Windows XP.Then I also unchecked a few services in the 'msconfig' (System Configuration Utility) and rebooted.Now, when I right-click on any folder or folder short-cut, the menu shows up only after waiting a full 3 minutes. The mouse cursor turns into the 'busy' indication and the system freezes during that time. The same scenario happens when I try to delete any folder (or folder-shortcut) using the 'Del' key on the keyboard. There is no such issue for any of the files.I would like to know what exactly is causing this problem and how it can be resolved. My PC is working fine now otherwise, and seems much faster than it was yesterday.

The main box pop up is as if we just installed new software for a printer, which of course we have not, and then a box pops up that has 1300 trb in the header and then says windows is configuring, and then another box pops up that says 1300 help in the header and then says it is also configuring. Nothing will print and we have one doc in que that we cannot cancel.

The symptoms:
Linked popups in IE generate a blank window.
Event viewer property pages do not open Services property pages do not work
Javascript "A disk error has occurred during a read operation"
Firefox opens the window but also adds a second blank one for a popup
Links in outlook emails open fine in new window
AOL webmail works correctly new window with email in it
Since this behavior arrived out of the blue and is specific I believe some proximate events were:
Install and de-install Pluck (RSS browser tool)
Install and de-install Java V1.5 SE
AOL homepage saying it was upgrading (AOL mail does work)
To resolve this I have:
Used Iefix to deinstall reinstall IE
Updated to all fixes sans sp2
run sfc /scannow
downloaded current scripting engine from MS
re-registered all suggested dlls for ie6
run current Macafee on everything
gone through MS knowledgebase
I did find two other users having the same problem with an extensive list of possible resolutions, none of which have worked.
so i went to msn and did the verify ( windows genuine advantage ) verification just to see if she has done it so we passed the test ,Its valid so no problem there .this is a dell machine >Dimension 5000< only a few months old, 3 at tops . she doesnt even use the net much . its a machine for picture editing .
any ideas why we cannot get the updates ..
also 1 time when i was on this machine surfing . this dell window poped up and showed something about updates , like it has over ridden Windows automatic updates . but i cannot find it anywhere on this machine
windows xp home sp_2 is what she has .
After setting up a password for the pc, I changed my mind and want the pc to boot up without showing the password prompt. All I've been able to find is how to remove the password but not how to prevent the prompt from popping up.

Every time I start my pc or during day I get this error message.It usually stacks like that because my pc was left on overnight, so it happens every 2 hours or so. I have no idea what this links to but it just started happening after I formated my pc, although I dont know why this started coming after many formats.

The memory could not be "written".Click on OK to terminate the program<<OK>>..I've searched the registry and all I can find is "oobe.exe" but that's all. Nothing containing the dialog in the popup at all. Has anybody experienced this? I'm running XP(home) on a Sony VAIO computer.
