I'm trying to unhide this folder and KEEP it unhidden because the backup software we are using cannot see hidden files. I go to properties, uncheck hide. It asks me if I want to unhide just the folder or all files and subfolders, I do all files and sub folders. No problem.Then, when I reboot, I go to check it, and it's hidden again.Is there any way to stop Windows from automatically hiding it on restart?
View 6 RepliesUsing XP home edition, I'm trying to tweak my Chrome browser so I went looking for the installation folder. The properties dialogue in the shortcut tells me it's in "C:Documents and SettingsOwnerLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe". The problem is that I cannot find this folder. When I go to my D&S folder and open my "Owner" folder, there is no "Local Settings" folder. I have my system set up to show all folders, including hidden and system folders, so I know that isn't the problem.

The files are not created hence cannot be run. The Windows Installer information window will appear if you attempt to run msiexec pointing to a file that does not exist.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis may seem petty but here goes. There is a 'Language bar' toolbar on the taskbar. I can right click on the taskbar>toolbars>and uncheck 'language bar' but every time I restart the machine the language bar is back on the taskbar. Anyone know how to keep this from happening. It's not too big a problem, it just adds clutter to my taskbar that I don't want there.

When applying the autohide it does hide until you put the mouse pointer down to the taskbar then it reappears and will not rehide even if you click on the desktop. Is there another setting that is conflicting this one?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

View 5 Replies View RelatedOkay, attached find two pics, explorer1 and explorer2. The first is taken from the 'save as' menu from an open word document, and clearly shows the file 'OLKBB' under the temp internet files, as well as the tree structure above it. Explorer2 shows the view, only as seen from Windows Explorer, and obviously that folder (and God Alone knows what else) isn't there. I've got 'show hidden files' unticked, plus 'hide protected os system files' unticked. Still can't figure out why this is.

The problem exists on a new Toshiba laptop that I recently bought.It's XP home, and I put SP2 on it. Here's a description of the problem: Let's say that I've got an IE website open, and I want to delete a file. I right click on the file, and then click delete, and everything's fine. I get the little window that says "do you want to delete this file", and, as I move my pointer to click OK, as soon as the pointer gets into the desktop area, the delete window disappears. In order to keep it "on top", I've gotta close out or minimize the IE window. It's the same no matter what file or folder I open. As soon as the pointer enters the desktop, the file or folder disappears. It won't stay "on top". I've tried to find a way to keep the current file/folder "on top", but haven't found one.

I presently have MSN as my browser and they told me that I have to find "Folders.Mail.db and replace it with "Local Settings.XML". I can't find either one. Is this really the problem? If I select either one it will stay only as long as I do not close the Folder Options box.
