View 6 RepliesThis is my first post on this site, and I just want you guys to know that I tried my best before making this post, but I just can't seem to solve this problem. We have a domain with all workstations running Windows XP. The server is Windows 2000 Server. A new computer running Windows XP x64 Edition is trying to connect to the domain but is getting the following error. The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "domain_name";he account is not authorized to log in from this station.I tried the following settings in local security settings
View 4 Replies View RelatedI found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've forgotten but in a new install of XP-Pro,SP2 using NTFS on C: I don't have the Security Tab when I right click on a folder to setup sharing. I want this so I can set Permissions, etc. I have it on my other PC set up the same way but for some reason I don't on this new install.
What am I doing wrong? My username is a member of the Andministrators group.
I haven't been to this site for a while and I noticed I'm getting Security Warnings that my security settings has blocked of an ActiveX install. I know how to change those settings, but am reluctant to do so. Can anyone shed some light on this. I occasionally will get similar warnings on other sites, but it is consistant on this one. Once in a while IE6 will hang up on this and I'll have to got to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out of it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just re-installed IE and since then have been getting the"Open File: Security Warning" messages for most programs.I try to run (local ones, NOT downloads).I did disable this before, but have forgotten how to. Googling for the answer only came up with how to disable this for files on a network (by adding to zone) and when downloading files in IE. Could anyone tell me where in the registry this can be disabled? Also, I have Home Edition, so no access to gpedit.msc

View 8 Replies View RelatedI can receive e-mail messages but I can't send them. How do I set up the server tab under properties so that I can receive my e-mails? I presently have MSN as my browser and they told me that I have to find "Folders.Mail.db and replace it with "Local Settings.XML". I can't find either one. Is this really the problem? This all started because I downloaded the update for SP2 and I lost everything. I have done a recovery and now my e-mail doesn't work. Please help. Thanks.
View 13 Replies View RelatedUsing XP home edition, I'm trying to tweak my Chrome browser so I went looking for the installation folder. The properties dialogue in the shortcut tells me it's in "C:Documents and SettingsOwnerLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe". The problem is that I cannot find this folder. When I go to my D&S folder and open my "Owner" folder, there is no "Local Settings" folder. I have my system set up to show all folders, including hidden and system folders, so I know that isn't the problem.

So at least security and compatibility tabs are missing and i need them. I noticed that when i go to Local security policy settings on Control panel>Administrative tools i get this error: and i think these problems are connected. So i need to fix that error and get the properties window working right again. Im administrator and running XP pro SP2.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThere is a delay of 5 to 10 minutes "applying your local settings" before going into Windows desktop. It may be a DNS issue on the server, but the only DNS setting I have on the local area connection on the server is 127.0.0.1. Everything seems to be working fine but this is a source of frustration if a workstation needs to be restarted.

View 10 Replies View RelatedRecently I reinstalled XP Home Edition and XP Pro using a slipstreamed installation disk contain SP2 and the latest hotfixes. Following those installations I found that I could not easily access any Drive Image (pqi) files that were created under the newly installed operating systems. The images could be restored but only after booting from the Drive Image rescue floppies. I also was not able to open and explore any of those images using Drive Image ImageExplorer. Images created prior to these installation could be opened and restored within windows with Drive Image. To access the images created under the new OS installation I had start the Home Edition in the safe mode and the go the image file, right click and select security. Then I had to add my user name under services and then check full control. In the XP Pro system I had to disable simple file protection and then change the security settings in a similar manner. This all had to be done even though the user has full administrator rights. I've been using Drive Image 2002 for the last 2 years for backups on both Home Edition and Pro versions of XP so this behavior is something I believe is new an possible a result of security updates included in the new installations. I really need access to these images from within windows but I also need to retain simple files sharing on my XP Pro machine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to download something (example - the latest version of Acrobat Reader). I get a warning that says my Security Settings won't allow it. View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to download perfectly safe stuff, I get a message saying that my security settings will not allow me download the file.I have followed advice about changing the settings etc, however when I follow any of the steps, it either won't let me perform the actions OR, the settings just bounce back to what they were before.I no longer have an Active-X bar along the top to help with downloading.I read that if these don't work:Try these two methods for changing the security..Try these two methods for changing the security settings.
Method #1
1. To lower the security setting in Internet Explorer:
2. In the browser's Tools menu, select Internet Options.
3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Security tab.
4. In the "Select a Web content zone" control, click the Internet icon.
5. In the "Security level for this zone" area, reset security to Medium.
6. Click OK.
Method #2
1. Select Tools Menu from Tool Bar
2. Select Internet Options
3. Select Security tab
4. Select Custom Level button
5. Scroll down to Downloads
6. Under File Downloads - If the File Downloads is not disabled you will not be able to download files.
To enable file downloads check the enable option. My only other option is mucking around with registry keys, which being a puter dunce and haven't a clue about anything like that, I'm not going to attempt. Is there ANYTHING else I can try (nice easy steps) that it going to allow me download stuff that I want from the internet.
When attempting to install certain packaged software it will fail or in some cases bring up the Windows Installer information window. We have noticed that it appears to happen when an installer, EXE or MSI relies upon transforming a further extracted MSI with an MST file. This only occurs if the files are attempted to be extracted to the root of the temp folder. The files are not created hence cannot be run. The Windows Installer information window will appear if you attempt to run msiexec pointing to a file that does not exist.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy home computer hard drive died. Critical data was backed up, so I didnt lose anything important, but Im having trouble with my replacement computer.I had another serviceable WinXP computer, two years old, that had never been connected to the internet, so job one after putting it on my desk was to download AVG antivirus. I did that. But when I tried to update the virus database, AVG Control Panel said the connection failed, and I couldnt download the updates. (I can access the internet via IE7 just fine, which of course I dont want to do without adequate virus and spyware protection.) And when I checked my Security Settings, it says that the firewall is turned OFF. When I try to turn the firewall ON, the first error message says:
Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service? When I click Yes, the next error message says:Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service.Obviously I need instructions from a print or online manual to fix more than just the firewall problem. But Im not sure where to start looking, and what questions to ask when I get there. Some Windows users forum? This forum here? Where do I start?
When I clik on the MMA Presentation I receive the following error: "Your security settings do not allow Web sites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly. Click here for options" The only thing that appears is the Information Bar. It won't allow me to clik on any options. I tried opening the webinar presentation on my laptop and it worked fine. They are both using Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. I went into Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, Security settings and changed the Active X prompts to mirror those in the laptop. But it still won't allow viewing of the presentation. In doing a Google search, one person said to look at a Microsoft support doc, and try Method# 4, Reregister DLL files that are associated with Cryptographic Services. I tried that but it still did not correct the problem.
