There is a delay of 5 to 10 minutes "applying your local settings" before going into Windows desktop. It may be a DNS issue on the server, but the only DNS setting I have on the local area connection on the server is 127.0.0.1. Everything seems to be working fine but this is a source of frustration if a workstation needs to be restarted.
View 7 RepliesHe did not setup the device settings (i.e. tell my computer what trays the unit has, paper deck, sorter, etc.). I set up those items after he was done under "Installable Options" in the Device Settings tab in the properties. Trouble is....it doesn't see the changes I made--it defaults to the settings the sysadmin made. I can print, but the trays are not correct and I cannot print from the paper deck which is our standard paper.I cannot even get a PDF to "fit to page" when printing to this printer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly
View 14 Replies View RelatedThis is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)
What is the "Temp" folder for which is at C:Documents and Settings Admin Local Settings Temp? Nothing seems to appear there while I use IE to browse.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI can receive e-mail messages but I can't send them. How do I set up the server tab under properties so that I can receive my e-mails? I presently have MSN as my browser and they told me that I have to find "Folders.Mail.db and replace it with "Local Settings.XML". I can't find either one. Is this really the problem? This all started because I downloaded the update for SP2 and I lost everything. I have done a recovery and now my e-mail doesn't work. Please help. Thanks.

The properties dialogue in the shortcut tells me it's in "C:Documents and SettingsOwnerLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe". The problem is that I cannot find this folder. When I go to my D&S folder and open my "Owner" folder, there is no "Local Settings" folder. I have my system set up to show all folders, including hidden and system folders, so I know that isn't the problem.

It asks me if I want to unhide just the folder or all files and subfolders, I do all files and sub folders. No problem.Then, when I reboot, I go to check it, and it's hidden again.Is there any way to stop Windows from automatically hiding it on restart?

In the meantime, I can move my mouse freely and invoke taskmanager to start programs (File... new task). I have 10 workstations on a network. We have a high turn around in employees. What I would like to do is just to rename the user profile for a new employee instead of creating a new account. I do know how to rename the user on the server. My issue is that even though I renamed the domain user account to a new user the old user name still shows on the workstation in the c: documents and settings and the new doc that are created show the old user as the author. How can I change this to show the new user?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have to uninstall unlicensed applications from hundreds of users and to manually do this would take the better part of the year. There is a login script running on the domain that can not be changed so the only thing I can think of is adding a login script to a GPO and then linking those users to that GPO but the GPO doesn?t seem to apply. Ill post the steps I did below. First thing I did was create a OU unit under Managed OU named Software removal login. Under the Software removal login I created a Global Security group named Unlicensed app users and added the users to that group.
I then opened GPMC.MSC and browsed down to the managed group and right clicked software removal login OU and selected create and link a GPO here. I named the GPO Adobe and then right clicked it and selected Edit. I set the user logon script and closed the GPO window. Then I clicked on the GPO link under Software removal Login OU. Under scope I removed authenticated users from the Security filter and added the Unlicensed app users group. Under Details tab I changed GPO status to Computer Configuration settings disabled..........

What is the difference between these two items?
After upgrading are users from 2000 to XP the users will change the folder view from tile to details and click the apply to all folders. The setting will not apply to all the folders.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi've had problems with my computer background for months -.- and it's really getting on my nerves. i'd like to find a solution to my problem.. when i right click my desktop, click properties, click desktop.. and browse and find the photo i want to set, it looks fine in the preview but when i apply it, half of it is off the screen in the corner. i tried changing it to stretch, center, tile, i re sized the image to my exact desktop size, i also tried different resolutions and still no change! please if someone can help.. i've googled this Many Many times but none of the solutions worked for me, i've also tried multiple images... View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving looked at a few previous threads on your forums, you seem to be pretty intelligent so I guess this is the best place to post my problem, Recently I purchased one of those quadcore machines (Q6600) with a blank HD, so installed XP Pro + SP2. There was errors when installing SP2 (and SP1, when I tried that), where by it gets so far, then just freezes. Having left it for hours to try and resume, it didn't, and I was forced to end the task. When I rebooted the machine I was prompted to uninstall SP2 as it wasn't installed correctly? This wasn't an option for me, as I NEEDED to install msn IM lol anyhow.When I boot my machine up, just before the logon screen loads where it says something along the lines of "Windows is starting up...", it just stays on that for ages (several minutes!) before continuing to load the logon screen. Once the logon screen appears, everything else is fine.
