GPO Not Applying - Login Script

Dec 12, 2008

I have to uninstall unlicensed applications from hundreds of users and to manually do this would take the better part of the year. There is a login script running on the domain that can not be changed so the only thing I can think of is adding a login script to a GPO and then linking those users to that GPO but the GPO doesn?t seem to apply. Ill post the steps I did below. First thing I did was create a OU unit under Managed OU named Software removal login. Under the Software removal login I created a Global Security group named Unlicensed app users and added the users to that group.

I then opened GPMC.MSC and browsed down to the managed group and right clicked software removal login OU and selected create and link a GPO here. I named the GPO Adobe and then right clicked it and selected Edit. I set the user logon script and closed the GPO window. Then I clicked on the GPO link under Software removal Login OU. Under scope I removed authenticated users from the Security filter and added the Unlicensed app users group. Under Details tab I changed GPO status to Computer Configuration settings disabled..........

Sp3, Slow Domain Login Not DNS Issue, Not Slow At Applying Computer Settings ?

Dec 23, 2008

This is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)

Device Settings Is Not Applying

Jun 29, 2005

He did not setup the device settings (i.e. tell my computer what trays the unit has, paper deck, sorter, etc.). I set up those items after he was done under "Installable Options" in the Device Settings tab in the properties. Trouble is....it doesn't see the changes I made--it defaults to the settings the sysadmin made. I can print, but the trays are not correct and I cannot print from the paper deck which is our standard paper.I cannot even get a PDF to "fit to page" when printing to this printer.

Delay Applying Local Settings On Workstation

Nov 25, 2008

There is a delay of 5 to 10 minutes "applying your local settings" before going into Windows desktop. It may be a DNS issue on the server, but the only DNS setting I have on the local area connection on the server is 127.0.0.1. Everything seems to be working fine but this is a source of frustration if a workstation needs to be restarted.

Admin Login Versus Profile Login

Nov 29, 2008

What happened is I just installed a new Hard Drive and a fresh windows install (XP Pro with Service pack 3). After all was installed it logged into my account (Me) which was my account with Administrator privileges. I did a series of windows updates now when I turn my computer on it goes straight to the Administrator account and not my account (me). So I have to log off or switch accounts from Admin to Me. I just want it to login to Me all the time. So I am not smart enough to figure it out.

Gets To Login Screen But After Login It Slows Down

Nov 21, 2006

I'm using Win XP sp2 and I usually leave my computer on 24/7. This morning I tried to open a file but it never opened. I went into the task manager to see if its even processing and it was there but the ccapp was taking all the cpu. So i tried to shutdown and restart. After that windows boots up to the login screen just fine but when i click on my account it take a long time to show my wallpaper. I can pull up task manager and the cpu isnt being used. the hdd is only accessed in little bursts. After a while the start menu pops up. any keyboard commands like to bring up win explorer takes a long time and all the commands pop up in a big burp of of command executions. I'm trying to reach system restore but cant. I'm not sure how to get into safemode with this system because just after post when f8 is usually used to bring up the menu the system opens a boot drive selection screen. During the RAM tests during post theres text stating press del to enter bios and f8 to enter boot drive selection so im not sure how to get to safemode now.

Configuration After Login

Apr 27, 2006

I have what is hopefully an easy question: I have a windows "configuration" box that pops up quickly after I log in (XP Professional), then it closes down right away. It's like one of those "configuring personal settings" boxes that shows up after you install something, then reboot to complete the install. When you log in, the box pops up saying that it's configuring the thing you just installed. But this one goes by so quickly, I can't see what software it's trying to confiure. I uninstalled the couple of utilities that I had recently installed -- thinking they might be the culprits -- but it's still appearing. And since it's started appearing, my machine hangs for a couple minutes after login, like it's waiting for something to timeout. Before this started, life was good. Whatever it's trying to do, it's not being able to do, because it keeps running every time I log in. And my virus scan is completely clean.Anyway, my question is: does anyone know where Windows stores the information about installations or configurations that need to run on reboot? I've looked in the registry in the Run and RunOnce sections of both HKLM and HKCU, and there's nothing there. It's also not in the Startup folder.Obviously, there's some command somewhere that's running whenever I log in. I just need to find out where it is so I can figure out what's causing it.

100% CPU Usage From Login

May 7, 2007

I've been having several problems with my PC lately. First, it started restarting randomly without any rhyme or reason. After disabling automatic restart, instead of restarting, it gave me a BSOD that told me one or more of my drivers was misbehaving. As soon as I log in, my CPU usage jumps to 100% and stays there. The strange thing is that it isn't a single process hogging the resources, it's always several processes using around 20% each. The processes eating resources aren't exactly foreign either. Most of the time they are Windows system processes or components of my AV/firewall. This happens to all of my user accounts, but it doesn't happen in safe mode.

Unable To Login

Aug 25, 2009

I work from home and am stressing here! I was working on a file in Word and all of a sudden my cursor seemed to get "stuck" and was advancing rapidly. I unplugged the keyboard, the mouse, everything, and nothing would stop it. I thought it maybe needed to be rebooted, but when I did that, I got myself in a worse position because now it is STILL stuck and it won't let me enter my password in the sign-on area. (I had password protected it to keep my teenage daughter off the computer at times she wasn't allowed to be). So I can say it's not the keyboard or the mouse, because after unplugging them, it still types *something* all by itself into my signon box. And I can't get it to stop.

Freezes At Login

Apr 24, 2010

my computer at home is constantly freezing every single time I start the computer up. It gets to the screen where you can click on a user to login but then it freezes and to restart I need to hold down the power button for 3-5 seconds. I looked through all of my discs and all I have is my Camera Setup, Windows 95, Printer Setup, Acer Recovery Discs (5 of them) and an Acer eMode Management disc. The only thing I have tried so far is to use the Acer Recovery discs but the problem still persists. I have no Windows XP disc and I can't remember getting one when I bought the computer but I might have it somewhere. I'm not sure if it came with the computer because the Acer Recovery discs basically re-installed Windows itself.

It all started when I was on the computer and a storm hit us and there was a power outage while I was on the computer. Since then it just freezes at the login screen. Ask questions and give any suggestions you can give, it is all appreciated as I am desperate to get this fixed! I have no important files on the computer so a reset of the whole computer is fine to do but what discs do I need and how do I do it. I am unsure if it is a virus related problem or a hardware related issue.

.DLL And Start Up Login

I noticed something was seriously hogging my memory or something as my pc was running really slow and you could hear it working overtime even when doing nothing. I ran McAfee 2007 and it removed 98 items and could not remove one of them, said it may be partially removed but not totally - c:windows.system32 AWTTSP.DLL.I ran spybot and it found some usuall offenders. I tried to go into the sys32 folder to manually remove the AWTTSP.DLL file and it would not let me. So I tried to restart my machine as the McAfee option offered to rescan upon start up, I did this and when I get to my password login screen before windows, all the text is in dingbats format and it wont accept my password.
