Get Classic Login Box From The Welcome Screen
Aug 12, 2002Goto control panel > user accounts > "change the way users log on or off" > uncheck the first box "Use the Welcome Screen". here you'll get a regular win2k/NT login screen.

Sep 19, 2005I just spent a number of hours getting rid of Trojan.desktophijack.B and Trojan.popuper, and now i cant get my windows xp theme off of "windows classic." i can select the theme but when i go to "windows and buttons" all that is available is "windows classic style." how do i fix this? i find it ironic that i can manually clean a registry but changing themes is beyond me.

Nov 29, 2008What happened is I just installed a new Hard Drive and a fresh windows install (XP Pro with Service pack 3). After all was installed it logged into my account (Me) which was my account with Administrator privileges. I did a series of windows updates now when I turn my computer on it goes straight to the Administrator account and not my account (me). So I have to log off or switch accounts from Admin to Me. I just want it to login to Me all the time. So I am not smart enough to figure it out.

'Classic Windows' And My Sound Blaster Live
Oct 4, 2005I have Windows XP, I was booting up my computer in diagnostic mode, and when I went to boot back in normal mode, everything went haywire. My compuer 'appearance' is stuck in 'Classic Windows' and my Sound Blaster Live isn't working (I have no sound now). This is just what i've noticed, so far. I've tried many times to boot back into normal mode, using various methods, and while everything seems to be working as they normally do (with the exception of sound), the 'Classic Windows' appearance remains the same. I've also reinstalled my SB Live several times, yet it still won't come on when I boot my computer, it just offers a diagnostic test which I fail, It asks me to reinstall, yet it does the same thing

If I click Start, this sorts the problem, allowing me to go back to my Royale theme I have on Windows XP. Oct 19, 2007I have set up an XP-Pro classic-file-sharing network and want the client computers to share folders on the "server" computer . I have arranged a number groups and placed users into the groups. Each user is a member of GROUP_nnn and also of USER(group). I have shared c:SHARED_ROOT to allow all groups to have full-control on SHARED_ROOT, but for some reason access is denied to the sub-folders SUBF_A , SUBF_B and SUBF_C. As ADMIN, I have set the permissions to allow each user full-control in these sub-folders but I still get "access is denied" when a user tries to navigate into one of the sub folders. I removed INHERIT from the SHARED_ROOT and from each of the sub-folders.
Do I have to "share" the subfolders? Should I allow INHERIT on the subfolders?
Classic Start Menu / Way To Remove Or Edit Words
Jun 19, 2005Is there a way to remove and/or edit the words: Windows XP Home Edition from the left side of the Classic Start menu? I did it with Windows 98. If I remember correctly, I had to create a new BMP file of certain dimensions, and use Adobe Photoshop to create a layer of vertical text, give the new file the same name as the old one, change the extension for the old file, and put the new one in the same location. Is the method for the Classic Start menu in Windows XP the same.

Nov 21, 2006I'm using Win XP sp2 and I usually leave my computer on 24/7. This morning I tried to open a file but it never opened. I went into the task manager to see if its even processing and it was there but the ccapp was taking all the cpu. So i tried to shutdown and restart. After that windows boots up to the login screen just fine but when i click on my account it take a long time to show my wallpaper. I can pull up task manager and the cpu isnt being used. the hdd is only accessed in little bursts. After a while the start menu pops up. any keyboard commands like to bring up win explorer takes a long time and all the commands pop up in a big burp of of command executions. I'm trying to reach system restore but cant. I'm not sure how to get into safemode with this system because just after post when f8 is usually used to bring up the menu the system opens a boot drive selection screen. During the RAM tests during post theres text stating press del to enter bios and f8 to enter boot drive selection so im not sure how to get to safemode now.

Hide User Accounts - Start Up Screen Without Switch Classic Mode
Jul 28, 2005Is there a way to hide user accounts on the XP start-up screen without switching to the "CLASSIC" mode? XP created the default 'Administrator' account, which is what it's supposed to do, but I don't what it to be visible to other users. I know how to switch to the classic view, but would like to keep the new XP view for ease of use by the other users.
