i was wondering if anybody had some ideas on how to speed up this computer of mine i've tried all the classic spyware and virus scans, registry scans i even upgraded the RAM from 512mb up to 2gb, which provided no improvement whatsoever the cpu just seems to have trouble handling even the simplest tasks, theres no evident process or program hogging up the cpu time

My computer has been acting pretty slowly as of late, probably due to spyware from limewire or other downloads. Does anyone have any very specific and efficient methods of using limewire without the spyware, or just of removing spyware or speeding up their system in general? (Programs, deletion, etc)
View 14 Replies View RelatedI hava a PC with Windows XP Proffesional 1.6GHz P4 with 384 Mb RAM. I have 2 harddrivers 1) 40Gb Total 10Gb Free 2) 120 Gb total 92Gb Free. It has worked very very well for a couple of years but in the latest month it has become so slow. I have been infected with spyware and as everyone else that used IE been hijacked but I have removed all those programs and adds regarding "Hijack"
What happens everytime I, for example, end a program is that all the icons on my desktop disapear and one after one is coming back first with a "system icon" then it get its natural look. Another example is that it takes so long time to start the webbrowser (FireFox). I really don't know what can be wrong,
In theory, my computer should be running like its brand new.I have no viruses, spyware etc.I have a junk file cleaner as well as registry cleaner.The only things that are running in the system tray are neccessary.I cannot put in anymore RAM.
So how come my computer still does not act as if it were new?

I was trying to beat some guys FSB (his was 600)I thought nothing could go wrong =]so i set the FSB to 600 PC would'nt boot.so Asus cleared CMOS for me i took the FSB down to 550 Booted.just Windows Came up with a System.dll Could Not Be found.Took the FSB down to 533 Re-Installed Windows XP (slipstreamed SP3) and now... i cant have the Default windows XP theme Installed Asus BIOS Update then Updated BIOS to 0802.Re-Installed windows XP again and still no Windows XP Theme.Its like my PC Is locked onto the Windows Classic Theme

Windows 2000 takes 2 minutes just to get pass Preparing Network Connections on startup and once windows is started it can take a long time to start up programs.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried to start it up and it takes forever to load. It takes a couple of minutes to open any of the icons on the desktop too (Mozilla, Word). I tried to clean up as best I could. I ran some spyware programs and antivirus and nothing too much showed up -- no viruses. It takes so long to run these programs that I go off and do other stuff and come back hours later and the scans are still running! Is there anything that you can recommend to get the laptop running as it should?

I also have no sound and in the control panel it isn't picking up any audio devices. I cant change the theme back to windows xp in properties either it says im using Windows XP (modified). For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. View 14 Replies View RelatedI think i might have a virus on my computer called Trojan.Metajuan, i saw in in my Norten scan and i cant remove it and i am having alot of problems.So my computer is slow right when i turn it on, it loads all my programs fine.So i try to do a Spywere scan with Webroor Spy Sweeper and after 5 mins it shuts down and i cant open the program i get a "has encountered a problem and needs to close. View 2 Replies View RelatedAll of my scans and checks are coming up clean, but i still get an application error that says " the instruction at 0x01a82dc0 referenced memory at 0x01a82dc0. the memory could not be read click on ok to terminate the program" every time i close internet explorer. And some scans I have done with registry scanners say that there are bad keys (i think thats what it said) that need to be repaired. If i do have to repair that is there a free program to do it. Is my intell32 virus gone? Is it say to do my online
banking again?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimention 2350 , Windows XP Home edition, SP2. The computer just shuts down at time without error messages. I can be on the net or running any program. Then it just restarts as if I I pushed the start button. A few times , when it restarted, it loaded me into the page that you get when you tap F8 at startup. I think it's clean from viruses. I have run Spybot and SuperAnti Spyware and AVG.It has ZoneAlarm for a firewall and runs AVG antivirus. When I opened the inside of the case, it was very clean. No dust on the "fins" or any dust buildup anywhere. I ran PCPitstop and it said 3 drivers were out of date and I believe that I have updated 2 out of 3 of them

I have Ad-Aware, Spybot, and a program I purchased called XoftSpy. XoftSpy finds alot of the things on my computer but once they are deleted, they come back. Aurora is one of them.
My computer turns off while I run any anti spyware program like spybot or ad-aware. This also happens if I try to run AVG or Avast anti viruses. Needless to say I cannot get rid of any spywares or viruses on my computer. What can I do to get the computer to run cleanup programs or should I just get a new computer?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThere are two excellent spyware removal apps available and they are both FREE so there is no reason to not use them regularly. The two best apps there are for removing spyware are SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad Aware. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU USE BOTH OF THESE APPS SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES AND VICE VERSA, YOU ARE NOT SAFE USING JUST ONE OF THEM. There is one other app that I HIGHLY recommend is for spyware prevention, SpywareBlaster. This app sets certain registry entries that prevent spyware from ever installing, it DOES NOT run in the background using any resources, you just set it and forget it. Once you have installed these three MUST HAVE apps you then need to update them and keep them up to date. I would recommend checking for updates weekly, it’s just like your antivirus app, you need to stay protected from the latest spyware out there. To update SpyBot just open the app from your start menu (use the advanced mode option) and select “search for updates” it will then show you what updates are available for download, always install all the updates. Another feature that SpyBot has is called “Immunize”, you will see an icon for it. Select the icon and under “Permanent Internet Explorer Immunity” select “Immunize” this works in the same way as SpywareBlaster in blocking new spyware. It also gives you the option of locking your hosts file against hijackers, I highly recommend using this option as well. To update Ad Aware just open it and select “Check for updates now”. For SpywareBlaster it is mostly the same, open it up and select “Check for updates” once you update this you then must select “select all” and then “Protect against checked items” so that the updates you just did take effect. Anything these apps find is spyware and should be removed, if you choose not to remove what is found then you have no one to blame if your pc crashes due to spyware or your privacy is invaded (including these companies stealing your credit card number and identity

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)
computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot, it takes that half an hour to an hour again
