Delete Everything On LOCAL SETTINGS / TEMP?
Aug 19, 2005i keep getting messages saying i have low amount of disk space. is it ok for me to delete the TEMP files on local settings?

The files are not created hence cannot be run. The Windows Installer information window will appear if you attempt to run msiexec pointing to a file that does not exist.

Oct 12, 2007I notice that in the c:documents and settingsusernamelocal settings that there is a TEMP and a TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES directory.When I delete the temporary internet files in explorer let's say, the files are gone in the pathname above mporary interent files. My question is can I just go and delete the files in the TEMP folder manually as well? without damaging some other program applicaiton operations?

Apr 1, 2006I found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

Aug 21, 2005I am runing XP Pro in a standalone mode.I logged on this morning and received a message I didnt have permissions to my profile so a temp profile was being created.All local profiles has lost their individual users permissions (only built-in admin acct had permissions).I reapplied the permissions for the appropriate users to their profiles and it work properly again.Is this the result of a viral or errorant Patch.My mother-in-law called me a few days ago with the same issue I am dont think this is localized.

Jan 3, 2005I can receive e-mail messages but I can't send them. How do I set up the server tab under properties so that I can receive my e-mails? I presently have MSN as my browser and they told me that I have to find "Folders.Mail.db and replace it with "Local Settings.XML". I can't find either one. Is this really the problem? This all started because I downloaded the update for SP2 and I lost everything. I have done a recovery and now my e-mail doesn't work. Please help. Thanks.

The properties dialogue in the shortcut tells me it's in "C:Documents and SettingsOwnerLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe". The problem is that I cannot find this folder. When I go to my D&S folder and open my "Owner" folder, there is no "Local Settings" folder. I have my system set up to show all folders, including hidden and system folders, so I know that isn't the problem.

Nov 21, 2007I'm trying to unhide this folder and KEEP it unhidden because the backup software we are using cannot see hidden files. I go to properties, uncheck hide. It asks me if I want to unhide just the folder or all files and subfolders, I do all files and sub folders. It empties the "Temporary Internet Files" folder and many temporary files but it does not empty the "Temp" folder in Windows XP (C:Documents and Settings(Account Name)Local SettingsTemp) or the "My Temp Files" folder within the "Temp" folder. I've noticed that videos I've watched online get stored in this folder as well as folders full of virus signatures downloaded before doing free online virus scans. Consequently this folder can quickly eat up valuable space on my laptops little hard drive.

I see that the space allowed by default is 1192 MB. Is this the optimum size or should that be smaller to avoid accumulating so many files? I really don't recall what the setting was in ME days, but 400 MB seems to stick in my head.
