Local Settings Temp Folder And Transform Issue With Build And Package Install
May 7, 2010
When attempting to install certain packaged software it will fail or in some cases bring up the Windows Installer information window. We have noticed that it appears to happen when an installer, EXE or MSI relies upon transforming a further extracted MSI with an MST file. This only occurs if the files are attempted to be extracted to the root of the temp folder. The files are not created hence cannot be run. The Windows Installer information window will appear if you attempt to run msiexec pointing to a file that does not exist.
I tweaked my settings on my computor so I would have my temp folder limited to a certain size but now i need it bigger and i forgot how i did it.Can anyone help me? BTW I'm running windows Xp family.
Using XP home edition, I'm trying to tweak my Chrome browser so I went looking for the installation folder. The properties dialogue in the shortcut tells me it's in "C:Documents and SettingsOwnerLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe". The problem is that I cannot find this folder. When I go to my D&S folder and open my "Owner" folder, there is no "Local Settings" folder. I have my system set up to show all folders, including hidden and system folders, so I know that isn't the problem.
I'm trying to unhide this folder and KEEP it unhidden because the backup software we are using cannot see hidden files. I go to properties, uncheck hide. It asks me if I want to unhide just the folder or all files and subfolders, I do all files and sub folders. No problem. Then, when I reboot, I go to check it, and it's hidden again. Is there any way to stop Windows from automatically hiding it on restart?
I have a program, or shoulfd that be a group of files, that are appearing over time in the TEMP folder and they are very annoying. The files are all 0KB in size, and though I can get rid of them with a reset of the system, I'd like to know how and why they are there.
All the filenames are just numbers, i.e. 5807.exe One morning I had 14 of these files. They seem to have appeared over night. I have tried deleting them, but I am told they are being used and cannot be deleted, but I am unable to find out what program is using them.
I found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly
I notice that in the c:documents and settingsusernamelocal settings that there is a TEMP and a TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES directory. When I delete the temporary internet files in explorer let's say, the files are gone in the pathname above mporary interent files. My question is can I just go and delete the files in the TEMP folder manually as well? without damaging some other program applicaiton operations?
I am runing XP Pro in a standalone mode.I logged on this morning and received a message I didnt have permissions to my profile so a temp profile was being created. All local profiles has lost their individual users permissions (only built-in admin acct had permissions).I reapplied the permissions for the appropriate users to their profiles and it work properly again. Is this the result of a viral or errorant Patch. My mother-in-law called me a few days ago with the same issue I am dont think this is localized.
I am wanting to use 32-bit XP pro on my new build but cannot get it to install. This is to avoid dealing with XP x64 driver searches and I do not want to lose netmeeting and msconfig so I refuse to convert to Vista just yet. Also, I am not completely convinced my build is Vista ready. The 32-bit XP install BSODs after doing "loading all the setup files".I have ACPI set to DISABLE.The APIC option in the BIOS is unselectable and is set to ENABLE.
No, there are not any BIOS updates available for my MOBO.Yes, I ran memtest86 and had 0 fails on multiple passes.Yes, I tried default BIOS settings.Yes, I tried Fail-Safe BIOS settings
I can receive e-mail messages but I can't send them. How do I set up the server tab under properties so that I can receive my e-mails? I presently have MSN as my browser and they told me that I have to find "Folders.Mail.db and replace it with "Local Settings.XML". I can't find either one. Is this really the problem? This all started because I downloaded the update for SP2 and I lost everything. I have done a recovery and now my e-mail doesn't work. Please help. Thanks.
I have tried three times to install SP3, (winxp) mob asus M2V-MX, cpu AMD Athlon (tm) 64 x2 dual core processor 4400, each time I get right to the end of the install and it says access denied, I disabled my anti-virus and firewall and tried to install it in safe mode, but I still get access denied, and each I have to do system restore to my pc to get back to how it was
I got in touch with microsoft and this what they want me to do, but to be honest I don't trust them I don't want to mess my system up, so would you please have a look at what they have sent me.
There is a delay of 5 to 10 minutes "applying your local settings" before going into Windows desktop. It may be a DNS issue on the server, but the only DNS setting I have on the local area connection on the server is 127.0.0.1. Everything seems to be working fine but this is a source of frustration if a workstation needs to be restarted.
I want to transfer the local settings (bookmarks, computer display, saved email folders) to my new hard drive. Which folders do I need to transfer over to recreate the look and have access to all my stored messages/folders in Outlook Express?
In Local Settings/Temp there keeps appearing a folder QWMSHTML, It is showing as empty, I delete it but when I look again it is there. Anyone offer info. as to what it is
This is my first post on this site, and I just want you guys to know that I tried my best before making this post, but I just can't seem to solve this problem. We have a domain with all workstations running Windows XP. The server is Windows 2000 Server. A new computer running Windows XP x64 Edition is trying to connect to the domain but is getting the following error. The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "domain_name";he account is not authorized to log in from this station.I tried the following settings in local security settings
What the title says, every time I DL something from Firefox it sends that file there unless i right click and save target as, I can never access it. The only way I can access it is to DL a .zip and click on the left bar to it
Is it safe to delete the files in this temporary folder? C:DOCUME~1HP_ADM~1LOCALS~1Temp, I don't want to mess anything up or lose something important but I'm thinking temp files aren't important?
My browser files have are very confusing. My C:Documents and SettingsUSERNAMELocal Settings Temp has some junk, but some of it is active system files- which shouldn't be there. One folder in ''Temp'' is called ''Cookies''. Another folder in ''Temp'' is called ''History'' and contains ''History.IE5''. also ''temporary internet files''.There is also a ''History'' folder one level up (where it should be) that has no''History.ie5''. There is also a ''Cookies'' folder two levels up (where it should be). It seems to be an exact duplicate of the one in the ''Temp'' folder, I deleted all the other files in ''Cookies'', but they reappeared later. If I try to delete(in safe mode) everything in the Temp folder, I discover that they reappear after restart. how can i get rid of files from temp folder.and also how can i restore History folder which has no historyIE6 sub folder.same with temporary internet folder.
Windows XP SP2 temp files I would just like to know if I can safely delete ALL the temp files in this folder, if for no other reason than to free up some space, or maybe speed up things a little bit. A simple search under Windows Explorer(*.tmp )has some files show up as Windows emp, some as Windowssystem32, and some as Program Files PC MightyMax, but all of these are listed as tmp in the TYPE heading of Windows Explorer. In addition, I've never used the Hijack This program before but I will now to submit what I guess is a snapshot of my system...?? Perhaps someone could suggest adjustments, if any, as my system does run slow on many occasions. My specs are as follows: Windows XP SP2 Home Edition, IE6, McAfee Internet Security Suite 2005, 2.4ghz processor, 256MB RAM, 40GB hard drive (NTFS file system).
Using XP Pro. When I download a file that opens in Windows Media Player - it always downloads to a temp folder first. How do I find this temp folder? I can not locate it on my PC
When I use a program called "Clean Up" I noticed it's always removing a lot of the same thing from my temp folder. The name of one the Items is: MSIc599.LOG, It seems to be being caused by this thing: ZLT05c3f.TMP Which I am Not allowed to delete
