View 3 RepliesWhen attempting to install certain packaged software it will fail or in some cases bring up the Windows Installer information window. We have noticed that it appears to happen when an installer, EXE or MSI relies upon transforming a further extracted MSI with an MST file. This only occurs if the files are attempted to be extracted to the root of the temp folder. The files are not created hence cannot be run. The Windows Installer information window will appear if you attempt to run msiexec pointing to a file that does not exist.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

There were only three folders in my documents - My Music, My Pictures and My Videos, and these only contain the standard sample stuff. Basically, my user is like new again! All my installed programs were there however.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a program, or shoulfd that be a group of files, that are appearing over time in the TEMP folder and they are very annoying. The files are all 0KB in size, and though I can get rid of them with a reset of the system, I'd like to know how and why they are there.
All the filenames are just numbers, i.e. 5807.exe
One morning I had 14 of these files. They seem to have appeared over night. I have tried deleting them, but I am told they are being used and cannot be deleted, but I am unable to find out what program is using them.
Using XP home edition, I'm trying to tweak my Chrome browser so I went looking for the installation folder. The properties dialogue in the shortcut tells me it's in "C:Documents and SettingsOwnerLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe". The problem is that I cannot find this folder. When I go to my D&S folder and open my "Owner" folder, there is no "Local Settings" folder. I have my system set up to show all folders, including hidden and system folders, so I know that isn't the problem.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to unhide this folder and KEEP it unhidden because the backup software we are using cannot see hidden files. I go to properties, uncheck hide. It asks me if I want to unhide just the folder or all files and subfolders, I do all files and sub folders. No problem. Then, when I reboot, I go to check it, and it's hidden again. Is there any way to stop Windows from automatically hiding it on restart?

If I look at the "Len" directory and all of it's subdirectories on the second drive "Make this folder private" is not check so I don't understand why I can't read it. View 5 Replies View RelatedThe partition C, where Windows XP is installed, became too small. Often XP crashes with the blue screen (BSOD). I already, successfully, moved the system folder "My Documents" to another hard drive, to give space, and changed the registry accordingly.
That was two years ago. Meanwhile, my space is again too small, somehow everything seems to grow on that partition. I need to give space again. I tried to copy the system folder "Documents and Settings" to another partition before making any registry change. But i cannot copy, XP reports an error saying that "NTUSER cannot be copied. The file is being used by another person or program". I also don't find any variable inside the registry pointing to that system folder.

A simple search under Windows Explorer(*.tmp )has some files show up as Windows emp, some as Windowssystem32, and some as Program Files PC MightyMax, but all of these are listed as tmp in the TYPE heading of Windows Explorer. In addition, I've never used the Hijack This program before but I will now to submit what I guess is a snapshot of my system...??
