Running Window XP pro SP3 DFI lanparty motherboard (Ultra D)Has OZC power supply GSX700. The problem I am seeing is it takes 20-30 seconds for the power to come on after you push the power button. I have never see one do this.
View 7 RepliesWhen my Toshiba laptop (p4 2.8, 768mb ram) boots up, the desktop background appears, but nothing else does for about 45 seconds. In the meantime, I can move my mouse freely and invoke taskmanager to start programs (File... new task). I'm pretty sure that this problem is not due to an excess of startup programs but instead due to some setting or manual time delay.

Also I'm unable to Save a new scheme.I beleive the schemes where deleted from the power properties window by right clicking and selecting delete. They used to be there anyway Unknown is listed above Turn off monitor-Turn off hard disks-System standby-System hibernates and everything is greyed out. They are still listed in the registry but with no value set.How do I go about getting the schemes back?

What I would like to know is that, what would happen to my PC if the total power consumption exceeds the MAXIMUM VALUE of the power supply unit.
When I click on a button I get a clicking sound which is OK when changing a page etc, but the clicking sound also clicks every 40 sec's or so, and is quite annoying, dose anybody know why it dose this, and can it be stopped.I diden't notice it when I had ME but now I have XP Pro it is very loud.

I have changed the print priority to 99 but still the same. I have re-installed the drivers and checked all the settings and i can't see anything thats different as it used to print immediatly. I have tried changing to print immediatly after first page/after last page and everything else i can think of. I also have another PC on my w/less network sharing this printer but this has the same delay.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving looked at a few previous threads on your forums, you seem to be pretty intelligent so I guess this is the best place to post my problem, Recently I purchased one of those quadcore machines (Q6600) with a blank HD, so installed XP Pro + SP2. There was errors when installing SP2 (and SP1, when I tried that), where by it gets so far, then just freezes. Having left it for hours to try and resume, it didn't, and I was forced to end the task. When I rebooted the machine I was prompted to uninstall SP2 as it wasn't installed correctly? This wasn't an option for me, as I NEEDED to install msn IM lol anyhow.When I boot my machine up, just before the logon screen loads where it says something along the lines of "Windows is starting up...", it just stays on that for ages (several minutes!) before continuing to load the logon screen. Once the logon screen appears, everything else is fine.

View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen online, all downloaded files I save take almost exactly 30 seconds to save to their location. Download speed is normal, the files are already downloaded. The only problem is the delay in saving. This happened all of a sudden. No new programs were added or settings changed. File size has no bearing - 2KB takes the same time to save as 200KB. Same delay for saving photos, html pages & images saved by a screen capture program.
Offline all graphics capabilities & copying is normal. System is clean, no virus, spyware etc.
HD is de-fragged, page file is de-fragged, all temp files emptied. Has happened before & a re-installation of XP fixes it, but I'd like to find out what's causing it?
I was wondering if there is a way to set how many (i'm guessing milliseconds) for the start menu to pop-up when you hover over "all programs"? Sense I upgraded to 1gb of ram anytime I even move my mouse over the All Programs it pops out the list (which is big). I'm wondering if I can change the delay on

View 13 Replies View RelatedAfter right-clicking or hitting delete on a file, I have a 15-20s wait before anything happens. After doing it once, it is fast to do so to the next file (doing a few rar's or something), but as soon as I don't touch any files for about a minute or two, it goes back to the huge delay to perform anything. I've tried defragging and unchecking 'Automatically search for network folders and printers'.

I first noticed this a month or so ago whilst in the MSN Spaces blog sites on just a few of the spaces that I frequented. Now, it seems to be every place (even here while I'm typing this). However, it doesn't seem to be a problem with MSN messenger, or Skype. I've run 2 different spyware apps (Spyware doctor & spybot search & destroy) and a full virus scan (avast). I did a restore back to June 13, prior to the Microsoft updates. Still the slow response is happening.

For example, I'll open Internet Explorer (or any program) and my computer will take 30 minutes to open it. While it's doing that, I can hear my computer "working" which sounds like a grinding noise. Programs on either my C or D drive do this, so it doesn't seem like a problem with my hard drive. I can't do anything (or very little) while it's opening something. Task Manager won't open, for example. I've done a spyware/virus check and there is nothing. It's not a slow computer. It has 1gig of RAM and more than 2.6Ghz. This didn't use to happen.

It may be a DNS issue on the server, but the only DNS setting I have on the local area connection on the server is 127.0.0.1. Everything seems to be working fine but this is a source of frustration if a workstation needs to be restarted.

As i start up my computer i become stuck with the desktop background after the welcome screen and the desktop icons and start button arrive too late almost taking more than 8 minutes... i am sure windows has loaded and i could hear the start up sound but not the icons and taskbar which appears only after long time.i have analyzed this problem for all these weeks ..i have come up with the conclusion that its a RPC(Remote Procedure Call) which is creating this problem..i diagnosed this when i could still start up task manager when i have desktop background and i end an svchost.exe process....Suddently a shutdown screen with a time down count of 1 minute appears saying that(RPC has been unexpectedly terminated..the system is going to shut down..save ur work..blah blah) ...But then all icons starts appearing and taskbar gets loaded...i rush into run command and type "shutdown -a" and the screen closes and i continue my work..

After trying a few different images and changing them (with right click > properties > desktop> browse), I found one I liked and clicked apply. Then, for some reason about an hour later, the desktop wallpaper turned gray after I closed an explorer window. I restarted, but the desktop was still gray. I right clicked > properties. however, when i clicked the desktop tab, The cpu usage went to 100% for about a minute, but then the tab showed up. the weirdest thing is that now it not only shows the default windows choices, but it seems that it additionally has everything in my "My Pictures" folder listed. That is about 5 thousand images. This is probably why it takes so long to load the tab. My computer has never done this before. I want it back the way it was.

I can't think of any application I've added during this time.I removed all apps from the StartUp folders.After turning the system on the opening splash screen comes up and then promptlythe image for my wallpaper (in use long before this problem).Then it pauses for 1-2 minutes.Ctrl-alt-del can be invoked. It shows 3-10% cpu use, little I/O.The process continues with the appearance of the desktop icons and the taskbar.

When turned on, it starts to show the post check on the screen, then it stops and beeps once, followed by 9 more beeps. After a minute or so, it seems to warm up and start. Sometimes I have to hit the reset button. Once running, it is fine, but it is driving me crazy to figure out the beeps. I know that once upon a time, in DOS, different numbers of beeps meant something, but I can't remember or find a reference.It is irritating to have this sequence when starting the computer.

This applies to a relatively new laptop (Portable1 UX520), with Core Duo Processor 2.0GHZ, Windows XP with frequent and regular system updates (using Windows Updated). I also have Notebook Hardware Control installed, but this problem did not seem to correlate with the install of NHC.
XP boots up totally normally, and I have very few startup applications booting to minimize battery usage. Everything gets booted, and the harddrive stops spinning, applications are accessible...all seems totally normal, except the networking options don't pop up on the system tray, and I can't access the internet with either wireless or wired connections. It takes several minutes (like 3-5) before these icons pop up and I can access the network which, on a laptop that I frequently use for wifi connections, is totall unacceptable.
