Speed up the start menu delay1. Download and install Powertoys for Windows XP.2. Open Tweak UI for WinXP and select Mouse. Under Menu Speed move the slider all the way over to fast.3. Restart the computerThis also works using TweakUI 1.33 for Win9x/ME/2K
When using the start menu the you will notice a delay between different tiers of the menu hierarchy. For the fastest computer experience possible I recommend changing this value to zero. This will allow the different tiers to appear instantly.Start Regedit. If you are unfamiliar with regedit please refer to our FAQ on how to get started. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop Select MenuShowDelay from the list on the right. Right on it and select Modify. Change the value to 0 Reboot your computer. Note from forum Admin - a setting of zero (0) is virtually instantaneous - experiment with other settings (200 or 300 or 400 perhaps) to see what you are most comfortable with.
Suddenly my PC is delaying (5 minutes or so) to boot an open the OS. It shows a black screen with a text about reviewing the memory while showing a blinking hyphen. I did enter through F8 to THE LAST CONFIGURATION THAT WORK WELL but nothing happened. After that the operation es absolutly normal. Any idea about getting back to normal startups?
My computer has a constant delay opening programs for the first time. For example, I'll open Internet Explorer (or any program) and my computer will take 30 minutes to open it. While it's doing that, I can hear my computer "working" which sounds like a grinding noise. Programs on either my C or D drive do this, so it doesn't seem like a problem with my hard drive. I can't do anything (or very little) while it's opening something. Task Manager won't open, for example. I've done a spyware/virus check and there is nothing. It's not a slow computer. It has 1gig of RAM and more than 2.6Ghz. This didn't use to happen.
A week or 2 ago my XP (sp.2) system started taking a long time to start, about 3 minutes. I can't think of any application I've added during this time.I removed all apps from the StartUp folders. After turning the system on the opening splash screen comes up and then promptlythe image for my wallpaper (in use long before this problem). Then it pauses for 1-2 minutes.Ctrl-alt-del can be invoked. It shows 3-10% cpu use, little I/O.The process continues with the appearance of the desktop icons and the taskbar.
I'm running XP home SP2. I have MS Office 2003 with all updates. The problem I'm having is when I double click on any MS office file (powerpoint, word, excel, etc), it takes about 1-3 minutes to open. When I look at the task manager, the CPU is 99% idle and no task appears to be using many resources. It's not the anti-virus SW because I've removed it from the system and still have this problem. It's also not network related because I've removed it from all networks and still have the problem. If I open the program that the file is associated with (ie MS word for a *.doc file) and then select file/open, it opens fine. I don't think it's just a MS office problem, because the same thing occurs when I try to click on a weblink within a document or application. It takes 1-3 minutes for IE explorer to open and go to the web page. I think it may be due to some security patch, but I don't know which one.
I was wondering if there is a way to set how many (i'm guessing milliseconds) for the start menu to pop-up when you hover over "all programs"? Sense I upgraded to 1gb of ram anytime I even move my mouse over the All Programs it pops out the list (which is big). I'm wondering if I can change the delay on
Sometimes, when i click "Start" the start menu will take 5-10 seconds before opening. Sometimes it does not do this, and then sometimes it does.Does anyone know what is causing this?
I believe I was infected by a virus not sure exactly which one but the payload was winupdate which had my CPU at 100%. I was unable to start the Taskmanager or run CMD or Regedit from the start menu. I started Regedit and deleted all instances if winupdate, the Task manager now works but I still cannot run Regedit or the CMD I get the following error"The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. CS:014b IP:05cf OP:63 3a 5c77 69"
When my Toshiba laptop (p4 2.8, 768mb ram) boots up, the desktop background appears, but nothing else does for about 45 seconds. In the meantime, I can move my mouse freely and invoke taskmanager to start programs (File... new task). I'm pretty sure that this problem is not due to an excess of startup programs but instead due to some setting or manual time delay.
I placed My Computer on my taskbar toolbar [shown on the image attached]. And when tried to point my mouse cursor for emample on Drive C, it shows the menu too fast. It is different on the speed when I right-click on the desktop and point to a menu. I'm using Win XP SP1
so whenever i hovered overtop of my "all programs" menu, it would open up but now its not. ever since i downloaded tweakxp. i uninstalled i but i still have to click it to open it
Opening Multiple files from Context Menu: Using Windows XP Home SP2, file Explorer, whenever I select multiple files (e.g. .doc, .xls, .jpg, or combinations, etc.), right click, and select the "open" command from the Context menu, for each file, before opening, it displays the "move items" dialog (which I cancel) and then a "copy items" dialog (which I cancel). These extra actions do not occur when I open a single file from the context menu. These extra actions do not occur when I select "preview" or any command other than "open". This problem seems related to "shell.dll", open ommand action settings, registry settings, or shell extension hooks. That is as far as I could get in researching this problem. open action settings, registry key changes, or shell extension hooks I should change using program ShellExView to solve this
After launching Start Menu and then All Programs button my PC will freeze up if I move my mouse off of the Program columns to desktop on the right.I did not have this problem when the PC was new. I believe it happen after a automatic download

i'm using xp home edition sp2 and an epson photo R800. The problem is, when I print a document or photo, I sometimes have to wait upto a couple of hours for it to print. I have changed the print priority to 99 but still the same. I have re-installed the drivers and checked all the settings and i can't see anything thats different as it used to print immediatly. I have tried changing to print immediatly after first page/after last page and everything else i can think of. I also have another PC on my w/less network sharing this printer but this has the same delay.

Having looked at a few previous threads on your forums, you seem to be pretty intelligent so I guess this is the best place to post my problem, Recently I purchased one of those quadcore machines (Q6600) with a blank HD, so installed XP Pro + SP2. There was errors when installing SP2 (and SP1, when I tried that), where by it gets so far, then just freezes. Having left it for hours to try and resume, it didn't, and I was forced to end the task. When I rebooted the machine I was prompted to uninstall SP2 as it wasn't installed correctly? This wasn't an option for me, as I NEEDED to install msn IM lol anyhow. When I boot my machine up, just before the logon screen loads where it says something along the lines of "Windows is starting up...", it just stays on that for ages (several minutes!) before continuing to load the logon screen. Once the logon screen appears, everything else is fine.
I am having 2 problems.1.) Fixed 2.) Delay At Boot Up, Black Screen With Blinking Cursor When rebooting my PC, a black screen comes on with a cursor blinking for about 10-30 seconds, and then it proceeds to show the Windows XP splash logo, is there anyway to prevent or stop this black screen with the cursor, as it slows down the boot time.
When online, all downloaded files I save take almost exactly 30 seconds to save to their location. Download speed is normal, the files are already downloaded. The only problem is the delay in saving. This happened all of a sudden. No new programs were added or settings changed. File size has no bearing - 2KB takes the same time to save as 200KB. Same delay for saving photos, html pages & images saved by a screen capture program. Offline all graphics capabilities & copying is normal. System is clean, no virus, spyware etc. HD is de-fragged, page file is de-fragged, all temp files emptied. Has happened before & a re-installation of XP fixes it, but I'd like to find out what's causing it?
i have a problem when i click on an item (this only happens sumtimes like 50% of the time) it takes forEVER! ! i mean forever seriously and then it opens in like 20 or 30 mins
