Unable To View Hidden Files / Wont Make These Unhidden?
Feb 20, 2006
Okay, attached find two pics, explorer1 and explorer2. The first is taken from the 'save as' menu from an open word document, and clearly shows the file 'OLKBB' under the temp internet files, as well as the tree structure above it. Explorer2 shows the view, only as seen from Windows Explorer, and obviously that folder (and God Alone knows what else) isn't there. I've got 'show hidden files' unticked, plus 'hide protected os system files' unticked. Still can't figure out why this is.
I simply can't "Show hidden files and folders" on my WinXP Pro SP2. I've tried everything (group policies, Kaspersky 7, AVG Anti Spyware and monitoring changes to the Registry real time), however, when I click on that tick mark button, the explorer window refreshes once or twice and nothing happens.
When I try and view hidden folders nothing happens. I go to tools/folder options/view/show hidden files and folders, select it, click apply and it doesn't do anything. If i close the window and reopen, the setting has changed back to 'do not show hidden files and folders'.
I have a system with OS XP professional recently i am facing a problem, the problem is when i am trying to view hidden files and folders its not showing. As we go to Tools - Folder Options - Show Hidden Files and Folders when i click on the option show hidden files and folders desktop is getting refreshed but not showing the hidden files and folders.
i started working on my friend's grandmother's computer and ive cleaned up all of her junk but , there's 2 administrator accounts, but they both come up in the welcome screen and i dont want one of them to because itll confuse her. somehow one has been unhidden so how can i make one hidden from this list so that it can always be safe and clean?
I had my PC (athlon 2300, winXP sp2) set so I could see hidden files, just so I could know what was going on in my hard drive. As of yesterday I can't, and re-setting the see hidden files option doesn't work anymore. Last major change I made was uninstalling Norton SystemWorks, a.k.a. ResourceHog, which was giving me a huge headache, and have been using Activescan and Kaspersky online scanners and CureIt free antivirus.
Can someone fill me in on the files ( content.ie5 & history.ie5 ). There are more than one instance of these files scattered about Windows. The primary one I am wondering about is in ... /[current user]/local settings/Temporary Internet files/content.ie5. The 2 things are this. 1) It is soo well hidden, that if you don't know it's there you will never see it. One has to make use of the command window and address it directly. 2) This file grows constantly as you use IE. It also grows when one tells IE to clear all cache and history files. It becomes unusally large, over 2 to 3 gigs, or more. I am using XP PRO /SP2, but these files are in all windows from 98 up I think.
i am not able change the settings in My Folders options..Everytime i click on Show Hidden Files..nothing happens..and my radio buttons do not check any of the two options.i.e Show hidden files & do not show hidden files..also i have tried to change the value of CheckedValue in regedit to 1..but everytime its comes back to 2...i think there is some virus thats doing it.
For some reason,I have about 200 temporary files in the WindowsTemp folder that look a lot like registry entries. They are hidden files, and I have been unable to delete them. They all begin with CS, and have a time-stamp that coincides with bootup. Here is one:CS2F1A1E2B-3FE4-44EE-80E5-22C16FD91008.tmp I get an error message that the files are in use, but I can't figure out what is using them. I also tried to access them from Safe Mode command prompt. They don't show up there.
i have window xp working fine but i have problem that i cant see the hiddien files that i have made that no one can have acess to them but now when i check the option that show hidden file but when i exit the folder option it remain same file remain hidden. if some one know is it virus or some other problem.
I do not have PowerPoint on my new Dell computer. I have received some .ppt and .pps files and when I try to open them it spits the dummy! Is there a way to vew these files or do I have to buy a PowerPoint package?
I am having trouble viewing power point slide shows people send me via email.I recently did my critical and security updates and since doing that it hasn't worked to view these files..they worked before the updates. When I try to open a .pps file I get this message:This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel.
recently i did a system restore to fix some problems that came up after my siblings used my computer. before the system restore i could play avi files no problem, but afterwards the media player can only play the sound.ive tried several movie players such as divx, windows media player, klite movie player, and vlc. all of them can play the audio but not video.i updated my divx codec and downloaded a new fddshow codec but it didnt work. k-lite codec pack comes with a whole lot of video codecs to play any movie format, but it still doesnt work.
Windows XP service pack 2.I have a churches computer that was infected with "INFOSTEALER", "TROJAN.VB.jy" and "DOWNLOADER.CRYPTIC.f" that I volunteered to try to fix.I searched the threads and followed the instructions listed to remove them and was successful. Thankyou for the help. But still have the issue of not being able to change the "FOLDER OPTIONS"/ "VIEW"/ "HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS" selection has both "DO NOT SHOW---" and "SHOW HIDDEN-" selected. If I select either one it will stay only as long as I do not close the Folder Options box. As soon as it is closed it will again default back to both hide and show.I cannot find any threads with this issue except the mention in the one thread about "INFOSTEALER" that I used to get me this far. What did I miss?
i had to reformat my computer and when i was reinstalling my programs suddenly my hidden files where not hidden anymore if i clicked properties it said hidden but they just appear translucent.
I'm trying to unhide this folder and KEEP it unhidden because the backup software we are using cannot see hidden files. I go to properties, uncheck hide. It asks me if I want to unhide just the folder or all files and subfolders, I do all files and sub folders. No problem. Then, when I reboot, I go to check it, and it's hidden again. Is there any way to stop Windows from automatically hiding it on restart?
A folder full of PSD files. I have the folder on thumbnail view so I can easily find a look I wan't and choose it instead of opening up each one. The problem is that the folder is not generating a preview of the file anymore but instead shows the PSD icon. I just got a new computer and it is since then that this has stared, as on my old computer the previews showed up fine. Is this a setting I need to change somewhere?
I was just wondering if it is a good idea to clean out the :WINDOWSTempC:Documents And Settings(Username)Local SettingsTemp foldersperiodically.I know i have to uncheck the show hidden files and folders, Do i select all in each folder afterwards and delete everything?
When I enter Control panel and choose Folder Options, if I choose to UNHIDE the hidden folders and APPLY, when I re-enter thesame option Window, it is back to Hide.
I cannot access my hidden files and folders even though i went folder options and gave show hidden files and folders.i cant see the files and folders. give me a way to access my files and folders really i need it.
I am using Windows XP, Sv. Pk.2. on a 3 year old Dell desktop. I recently had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall. I backed up everything on an Iomega external hard drive using Acronis True Image software. Everything worked fine and I have all my files back, except for my email address books (7 Of them) and my saved email folders (about 20 of them). I use Thunderbird for my email. The email data are all in my hard drive but are in hidden files. I can locate them but cannot figure out how to open them and read them - and neither can I import them. Here is an example for just one file: abook.mab C:Documents and SettingsWilliamApplication DataThunderbirdProfiles|zvcjz11s.default All files are "Read" files and this is the message I get when I click on "Read" : Adobe Reader could not open 'abook.mab'
I want to see my hidden files in my computer but i cant make it happen i tried go to folder options/view/show hidden folders i apply and the ok but it doesnt work i go abck there and the do not show is thicked I am runing xps2 , is just reformated computer

So at the first "Hidden Files not showing" thread, I did download the file that devil_himself provided, and it worked for a little while, but now they are back to not showing. Devil, you asked me to start my own thread.
I have recently reinstalled windows XP after some speed problems and my PC is running really well now. I've also been carrying out a lot of registry clean-up (CC Cleaner), maintenance etc.
When carrying out a disc defragmentation, I noticed that there was reference to a lot of mainly old downloaded files which were saved on the hard-disk before I reinstalled windows.
