Recently I've formatted my pc and installed winXP pro and then something weird happend. When I click on properties on one or more files, thing are all right but, if I click on properties on a folder, they do not appear. Can this be solved without another format?
When I open a folder (MyComputer, for example), and try to right-click or double-click an icon to open it- it does not work. When I right-click the icon, NOTHING happens. When I double-click the icon, the icon gets highlighted, but the program or other folder does not open. I checked in the folder options, and it is set up so that when you double-click an icon, it opens the program. But the weird thing about it is that if I try to double-click or right-click an icon on my desktop.. it works like it should. So this really just doesn't make sense.
I've lost the ability to right click on my desktop and bring up "display properties". Does anyone know where to find this utility in XP? I'm not quite sure how I lost it, but I'd like to get it back!
changed the properties of my folders, I want to issue one specific folder/subfolders with a password, but the 'Make this folder private' tickbox is greyed out and I cannot select it.
I need to know how to delete an item from the background list in Display Properties/Desktop. These are digital photos from My Pictures that somehow got copied to the background list. These items are not in Windows/Web/Wallpaper. When I "right click" on an item, I get "whats this?", not "rename, delete, etc."
I was wondering if it is possible to make a specific user (such as Guest) and change it's user permissions. For instance, right now, Guest can do the usual stuff but not access any folders other than its own My Documents. What I want to do is configure it so it is not able to use certain applications, click properties for the desktop, etc
When I double-click an icon on the desktop, the program doesn't start, instead the properties window for that program opens. I can start the program through the start menu.
Once the program starts, the keyboard works only on the DOS commands. For example, if I try to type a "F", instead of an "F" appearing in the text, the file menu drops down from the top.
I have a problem. When I double click a folder, I am sent to the Search Results folder and the content of my folder is not displayed. To access the files from a folder I need to right-click and click on the Open command
You know how you can set the properties of a folder by right clicking and selecting properties and then under the 'Customize' tab you can choose whether the folder is for Music, Photos or Videos, etc...? Well that ability is not available in the same way for the actual D: (second harddrive). Somehow Windows decided to make my entire D drive a Music folder so when I'm in the root folder for D: it doesn't have the option to "Make New Folder". Instead it shows "Play All" and actions for Music type folders. See photos: It needs to be "File and Folder Tasks" not "Music or Pictures Tasks" but how do you change this setting on a folder (or in this case, harddrive) if the Folder Properties do not have a Customize tab??
I want to add comments to my folders and I read how to do this, only problem is I have no 'Summary' tab in any of my folder properties. What's going on? Can I restore it somehow?
My home pc is running slow and i wanted to do some poking around and I checked the folder properties for My Documents folder and it listed something like 3000 folders. However when I open it up there is roughly 20, at the most. Where are these other folders coming from? I do have show hidden folders. I also have a decent amount of mp3's, maybe a couple hundred folders there, but nothing in the 1000s range.
- How can i found out what all these folders are? - Also can anyone recommend a do-it-yourself site/guide to tackle slow pc issues? I want to go thru my pc and delete all the unnecessary garbage that comes with it and what i don't need.
I can not access hard disk properties because Windows Explorer hangs whenever I Right click on a hard drive icon. I am running WXP pro SP2 completely up to date with updates.
When I click on desktop and select properties to change the desktop wallpaper I have a list of family photographs!I still have the desktop wallpaper folder in windows web folder but how do I put it back into the desktop and remove the ones that are mysteriously there.
I followed this guide, to add options when you right click, but instead of editing folder, I actually edited file folder. It said at the bottom you need to go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTFoldershellCreate_File_Listing in the registry to remove it, but i couldn't find file folder.I want it back again so when i double click a folder, it opens the folder. I didn't know what the windows explorer .exe name was or where it was stored, so for the time being i have to right click>>Open
When I try to open a file by double clicking,Windows XP opens the search window. Any clues on how to fix the problem? I even tried to roll back to a previous date when the problem wasn't there.
i have XP Pro Basically I was messing around in file types because my folder icons were botched. Ran TweakUI to fix folder icons, but here is what happened. double clicking a folder opened the search window. So i went into file types and created a new action, and pointed it at explorer.exe from my windows directory. Now, the problem is, when i double click it opens the folder in a new window, instead of the same.
when I am in the advanced settings of file types (tools-folder options-file types) the Edit and Remove buttons will not light up, but i am the administrator. Restore defaults doesn't work.
Is there a backend way to fix this anyone knows of, short of reformatting ?? system restore to a previous date did nothing.
i have this problem, when i click on any folder o shorcut to a folder the search window is open, i need to open every folder from the explore option on right click of the mouse. any help?
After reading through the posts, my problem seems so minor. But to me, it's extremely annoying!A search didn't list my problem. My folder setting (Open each folder in the same window) doesn't seem to work anymore. No matter how often I make the setting, clicking on a sub-folder opens that sub-folder in a new window. If I go back to the Folder Options window, it shows that the same window option has been chosen. I have no idea what I might have done to cause the changed behavior. And yes, in the View tab of Folder Options, I did choose Apply to all Folders.
I've gotten to the pulling the hair out stage with this. I have no right click ability in my standard PS2 mouse. At first I thought the mouse itself had failed but a scan with CCleaner's Reg Cleaner revealed a problem with the mouse shell. The .dll in question is:pxwma.dllAn SFC /SCANNOW and numerous reboots have failed to fix the issue, as has a re-installation of the driver or logging into Windows Update and checking for Hardware Updates (none available).I attempted to re-register the .dll but the response was that the module for it did not exist. I therefore download pxwma.dll and coppied it to my System 32 folder and tried to register it again. The response this time was
Today I had uninstalled several unused programs with the Add-Remove utility of Windows XP.Then I also unchecked a few services in the 'msconfig' (System Configuration Utility) and rebooted. Now, when I right-click on any folder or folder short-cut, the menu shows up only after waiting a full 3 minutes. The mouse cursor turns into the 'busy' indication and the system freezes during that time. The same scenario happens when I try to delete any folder (or folder-shortcut) using the 'Del' key on the keyboard. There is no such issue for any of the files.I would like to know what exactly is causing this problem and how it can be resolved. My PC is working fine now otherwise, and seems much faster than it was yesterday.
Whenever I double click on a picture in my pics folder it refuses to open it up to a bigger window that shows the pic enlarged. I also cant use any of them as a picture for my desktop.this is what the window that pops up states..
I'm using Windows XP. When working in Microsoft explorer and double-click on any folder it does not open the folder, it opens Search window. Only way I can open and see content of my folder is to right click on folder and choose explore.
When I try to open one of My Folders (One that I added to my desktop with application I added to it) with a double left click a search results window opens instead of the folder opening and displaying the contents of the folder with things I've put into it. If I right click on one of my folders and go down and left click on open the folder will open and the contents displayed as I expect (The first opetion displayed is a search after I right click). Any other folder including My Documnets folder will open the folder and display the contents correctly. At one time it used to work correcly and its not a major issue but I would sure like it fixed > Any ideas?
every time i insert a DVD into my computer, i try and double click on the drive, but an error comes up saying "D: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing these actions. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel
I really need a help here. About two days ago I was trying to improve the speed of my system. I think I have delete an important file. My curent problem is that When I rightclick a desktop icons I only get an hour glass, the system stops responding to any thing. The only way out of it it to either log off or shut down and restart. When I open the recycle bin though it appears full on the desktop icon I could not see any item on it.If I try do delete, move this folder or any of the command on the left file/folder task pane I only get hour glass. The only way out of it is ctrl+alt+del, task manager (program not responding) end task.
