Network Connectivity With Remote Connection
Sep 20, 2004
I've been trying to connect to my home pc using a remote desktop connection. I have an adsl connection with a static ip address assigned to my home network which is behind a nat router or adsl modem. I have redirected the standard rdc port to aim at my pc when an incoming connection arrives. When i aimed a connection from my work pc to my static ip except one little thing domain called eletrironica and ntlanct my PC is not on a domain at all.

I've been trying to use Remote Desktop to connect from my home computer to my office network's machines. I've followed all the instructions except for the part where it talks about getting a "virtual private network connection". Not sure if I have this part done right. Not even sure if this is the problem. Is there something that needs to be set up before being able to connect from a home computer to an office machine?

Very simple question: is there any way that I can see who, in my network, has RD'd my computer?

My main computer's (XP, SP3) Internet connection is shared among 3 other machines via ICS. However, one machine (XP, SP3) - which runs a couple of P2P programs - usually loses its connectivity (even file sharing) after a few days. I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security on the main computer. I've tried disabling it (for testing purposes) to no avail. I've also disabled Windows Firewall on both machines with no improvement. Using a router is pointless because it freezes after a few days (due to the P2P programs). I've tried 4 or 5 different routers (even the "good" brands).
Is it simply an overload in terms of the number of connections possible? Does ICS, in principle, face the same problems as a typical router? Because I've even tried reducing the number of P2P programs to just one and also limiting the number of connections it makes. (Not to mention "fixing" the 'tcpip.sys' limit on both machines.) Any ideas what the problem could be and how to fix it?

I have formatted 2 separate computers this past week and both of them gave me trouble with the Adsl internet connection. Both computers have been formatted with the windows xp cd (1 home & 1 pro version respectively) & formatted in dos -> ntfs file system
computer 1
win xp home sp1
this computer worked well until i installed sp2 on it showing me 'limited connectivity)
computer 2
win xp pro sp2 incl on cd
this shows 'limited connectivity'
the strange thing about this is that i could connect both computers to my network without the warning & everything works fine but when configured as standalones and connect the internet adsl modem into the nic they give me this error. tried winsockfx & microsoft repair tool from their site but to no avail. the prob could be from sp2 as the computers dont give me errors without it but i installed my own personal computer with sp2 & never had any problems with my nic or adsl modem. Could it also be that i primarily connected them to my network b4 i tried configuring them?

I have two different computers both running Windows XP professional. I am trying to connect to one remotely using the Remote Desktop Connection. I have enabled the remote computer for remote logins but for some reason I cannot connect with it. I get the error message that the client could not connect to the remote session. I have 50 other computers on this network all set up the same way and have never had a problem. Everything seems to be configured exactly the same. I can ping the remote computer.

I have a Win XP Sp3 pc sitting on the school network to which I do RDC using the SSH tunnel with putty. It works fine and I can connect to it with no problem. The problem arises when I reboot the computer. I am unable to connect to the machine unless a local login has been done first. After a local login, I am able to see winlogin in the RDC window and go ahead from there. This is a big problem as I have to be around the machine when an update that requires a reboot is performed. Other pcs sitting on the same network do not have this problem.

I am trying to conned to a novice computer. Both of us are using Win XP Home. I am on Road Runner cable and the novice is on Comcast. He does not have a firewall other than the built-in one and we have tried it with this disabled. He does NOT have a router or wireless system. He only has the cable modem going to his computer. I am behind a router and have windows firewall disabled. From what I have read it should make no difference that I, as the one responding to the email invitation, am behind a router. What are the possible causes and solutions for this common error about "host name not resolved" when the inviter (novice) is NOT behind a router?

I have three machines with different versions Windows (95, 98SE, and XP HE) all behind a hub, a switch, and a firewall. A few programs on my 98SE won't run on my XP. That means a trip down three floor levels (short levels of 6 -8 steps but I'm gettin' old).I ran across a piece of software that looks like it may be the answer I am concerned about downloading something from the net and later finding that it has tentacles that stretch beyond my little home network and now feed data outside my system.
Q1) Will this particular product allow my XP to use programs on my 98SE as though I were sitting at the 98SE?
Q2) Is there an increased security risk if this software were installed and
used?

At work I have a PC running WinXP x64 with dual monitors
At home I have a PC running WinXP with dual monitors
(Both have SP2)
I would like to use Remote Desktop Connection to work from home, on my work computer, USING dual monitors.
Right now the remote window opens (with the size of one monitor) while spanning both monitors. IE Half of the window is on one monitor, the other half is on the other monitor.
I can't seem to expand the window to span both monitors.
(I've tried doubling the deskwidth resolution in my .rdp file.)
Has anyone managed to accomplish the above? With my setup?

I use the Windows xp remote desktop connection for my PC and my laptop via Wifi. When I first established it and sent an invite to my laptop my main pc had a password that was required to log on, so I used the same password to log onto the PC through the remote desktop via my laptop. Now, I have removed the password from my main PC but when I do that I cannot log onto through the remote desktop connection via my laptop because it won't accept a blank for the password. It will only work if I have a password on my user account on my main pc.

I want to connect from my home computer to my non-profit business computer that I just upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro. At home I'm running XP home and have a cable connection and the remote computer is connected with a DSL modem, there's no routers involved. I enabled RDC on the remote computer, and cleared the "Don't allow exceptions" box. The remote machine has a dynamic ip which hasn't changed in a while. The host says it's listenning on port 3389. One thing is that whatismyip.com shows my ip address as one thing where ipconfig shows a completely different number. I tried connecting from the client using both numbers. In both cases I get the message: The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled...
