One of my computers has an odd problem that developes after a while where Minimizing and Maximizing windows becomes tediously slow, the animation runs realy slow and it flashes in different sizes.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI followed the standard procedure to put an active web page on my desktop. i.e Display properties Desktop Customize Desktop Web Browse select web page Open OK Ok Apply Ok. This results in the web page being displayed but of fixed size (about 5cm by 5cm ) . The usual window buttons maximize ,minimize and exit are missing. Thus I am stuck with a small rather inadequate web page. I have run Microsoft anti spyware ,avg antivirus ,cw shredder etc but to no avail.
Lately I've noticed my windows seem sluggish and slow when minimizing or restoring from the taskbar.I mentioned it to a few friends and they have all noticed it as well. I had a look in my task list and I don't see anything out of the ordinary there. I'm running norton 2003 and MS anti-spyware and neither has found anything wrong. Just wondering if this is a common issue and how I can fix it.

I have been having a problem with my windows being cut off and when i try maximizing them it just stays like that. I'll show a few pictures to show what i mean. Look at the attachments. View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason when I click on My Computer, Control Panel, Task Manager for example, they don't open but go straight to my Taskbar. From there I can't maximise/restore these icons from my taskbar. I have searched your site, but can't find an answer that will help me.I am running Windows XP Home Edition with service pack 3 downloaded.As this computer was given to me by a friend I am am not sure if this has been an issue previously. If I click on the flashing My Computer Icon on my taskbar it doesn't open. If I right click and press Restore it still doesn't appear. I have the feeling it is "open" as if I right click again I have the option to minimise or maximise, I just can't see the open window. The only way to open My Computer, for example, is to go to Windows Explorer and access through there. This doesn't appear to be happening with all icons. I can open folders from the taskbar.
When we open a new window, no matter whether game or internet, it is very small and even after we maximize it the text is very narrow in the middle. When we open a game the window stays very small and won't allow us to open it larger. Please tell me how to extend windows. The computer is a HP laptop with XP.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows XP Professional.Windows that used to open to full screen (for example,links to websites,or windows opened by running programs) now are minimized and I have to hit the maximize button every time to re size them a real pain.Ran virus programs,adaware, etc. and can't find anything.Didn't used to be a problem. I read in some thread somewhere that this may have to do with pop up screens resetting something or other but I can't locate that thread. Any clues out there on how to fix this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had to restart my computer after it finished a spyware scan. It restarted just fine, but I noticed a lot of things wrong once I logged on.
1)can't minimize programs to the taskbar. They won't show up if I try to minimize them, but I can access them by using alt+tab.
2)can't hide inactive windows, no circle with the arrows to click to minimize. I've tried right clicking on the taskbar and going to properties, but when i click hide inactive icons, and click apply nothing happens. Also when I click the customize button, the customize notification menu is empty.
3)I have no sound. I went to the control panel and checked on the sound and audio devices. I went through all of the tabs and they all said there was no device, but when i checked the hardware properties it said everything was working properly.
4)when I access the task manager and click on the processes tab, the user name column is empty. Usually there is either administrator or system.Other than these problems, everything else works fine. I recently installed something before my computer restarted and I uninstalled it and restarted it again and the same problem was there. if anybody knows what to do I would be extremely greatful.
I am running windows XP. While experimenting with the task bar options I caused a problem I cannot seem to fix. When I try to minimize an open program,instead of it closing and being displayed on the task bar, it closes and dissapears behind the task bar and I can no longer see it

I got what I thought was gonna be a screensaver and background online, but the file is on my computer and I can't do anything with it. I can't move delete it, move it, rename it. Under Control Panel -> Visual Effects, I have selected "Adjust for Best Appearance".The problem is that the minimizing animation suddenly stops working after sometime and then starts again if I restart my PC. View 6 Replies View RelatedMy system is slow, Malwarebytes came back with error 714 (0,9), so uninstalled using add/remove programs - but even that continually showed error code thru process. Have now reinstalled Malwarebytes and running scan - nothing detected on scan yet. Tried to print on Dell 924 Photo printer (which has worked fine for 5 years) and came back printing error. Tried to add/remove MS SQL 2005 program, wouldn't allow me to uninstall. this program had error messages at startup, wasn't even sure what it was or how it got on the system, so decided to uninstal after inquiring on techguy software forum. but it wouldn't let me uninstal it. I think the program was probably related to high school technology class with the boys.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have the oddest problem thats occuured in the past few days.It appears to be connected with the opening and closing and switching between tasks.For no apparent reason, the window you either want to close or one that's been opened and you need to say click on a button to start a task, just fails to respond. The only way to unfreeze and carry on with your work is to open task manager then you can click on any line of info on the list, dont take any action in task manager, just close it down. Then you can carry on with what you were doing.I'm running a relatively new machine with XP SP3.I've reinstalled XP and I've checked the machine for all sorts of nasties and there's nothing.
This problem can be in programs, browsers (firefox is the worst. If you load a new page, all the URL links will not be accessible, meaning when you mouse over they do not change the cursor, til you do what I mentioned withthe task manager).I have checked the system performance with task manager open and I am not getting any sudden drains on the machine, which is a pretty fast processor (dual core) and working with 4 Gb or RAM.One other thing I noticed. Say you have a page of icons on screen for example in control panel. Single click to highlight one of them and then I would usually double click to perform the action. Now I can't double click because I get a small box open withthe options available open etc.

When I choose to minimize anything on my desktop it used to drop down to the single click startup bar area and wait to be recalled. Now, when I minmize anything, the only way I can recall it is to open Windows Task Manager and and launch it from there.

my internet speed has been unusually low for the past couple of days, i've called my internet provider and I'm sure the problem isn't with the modem. I've tried removing all virus and spyware but it didn't fix the problem. I've also been recieving a script error message when I restart the computer regarding a missing boot.ini file, and I can't find the icon for my drive E anymore on my computer, and I can't access it through run either, due to the changes or the removal of drive E, I also can not restore my computer to an earlier point. I don't know if these problems are related, i just need to get my internet speed fixed first.

I get the black WINDOWS XP screen, then, the screen goes BLANK for anywhere from 3-5 minutes before it proceeds. There are a bunch of error logs and uninst folders in my WINDOWS folder on the C:| drive.....any suggestions?

While in multiplayer mode in Return to Castle Wolfenstein, I would get excessive page file activity which would get progressively worse. Map load times would constantly increase as each new map was loaded until the system reported WOLF.exe had caused and error and would shutdown the game. The solution for my system is to set both the Desktop AND game color to 16-bit. Also, set both to the same resolution. I like 1280 x 1024, but that may be too high for some systems.After this tweak, my map load times went from >1 min to between 10 and 20 seconds. Right where a P4 1.5 with 256 megs should be.
