I got what I thought was gonna be a screensaver and background online, but the file is on my computer and I can't do anything with it. I can't move delete it, move it, rename it. Even if I right Click on it, nothing comes up. I've ran norton and nothing came up and the file just seems to be stuck in the folder it's in, I can't even move it to the recycle bin. If anyone has any advice I'd be grateful. Also, I'm looking for a program to minimize my .mpeg and .mpg files so the size is smaller. I heard about a NVS program by nullsoft, but when I downloaded it, it didn't work. If anyone knows of a program that does this or one similar.
I upgrade to WMP 10 and all my existing mpeg files don't work. I just get sound and a black screen. I see quite a few others posting similar problems. It now appears that my DVD Encoders are no longer compatible with WMP 10. Hmmm they were fine with WMP9...what gives? now it appears I must PURCHASE a new set of encoders, conveniently located through the WMP10 "Plug-Ins" drop down menu. And don't think you can go back to WMP9, it also seems that my system restore point created before the upgrade mysteriously fails to work.
My hard drive recently got corrupted and I had to install WP XP Home, instead of XP Professional that I had previously. After installation and downloading WMP, I was unable to play any MPEG files that previously worked. WMP gives me the following error - C00D11B1. Even the files thumbnails dont look the same (currently look like generic files). However, the MPEGs work fine when I play them in Quicktime and even iTunes. I downloaded/bought a plug-in from the WMP website which I think gives me MPEG-2 decoder/DVD software etc. However, I think that relates to DVD play etc, while I am more concerned about the videos from my Sony Digital Camera which still dont work. Am I missing any drivers etc that I need to download? Btw music files work fine, and this only relates to videos.
I am running windows XP. While experimenting with the task bar options I caused a problem I cannot seem to fix. When I try to minimize an open program, instead of it closing and being displayed on the task bar, it closes and dissapears behind the task bar and I can no longer see it
I had a 25 min VHS tape that I needed copied to a DVD pronto for my boss. I brought it down to a video duplication place and they burned me a DVD for me. When I brought it back to the office there were some peculiar things happening with the audio:
1) I could not open the DVD video with Windows Media Player (heavily distorted audio) or Real Player (wouldn't open at all).
2) I could open it with "Nero Showtime" (I guess this is like a file player) with good audio and no distortion.
It is frustrating having every program automatically install to program files, including minor things like audio attachment. I know I'll end up with tons and tons of folders in program files. Beyond that, I can't access program files from the other computers on the network. Is there a good way to reorganize/move files to my C drive in a way that would be efficient and wouldn't require reinstalling every single program in a different place?
Um.. I think this could go here. Well i just partitioned my hard drive and i seperated it by music, programs, etc. What im trying to do is get all my programs to use the seperate partition (E) instead of C:. I just wanted to know how to do this.
I'm using Win XP and, using the built in Zip feature, have zipped up 14 files that include one .exe file and one .bas file. When I try to Extract All files it extracts all except these two files. It says that the files have been blocked to protect the computer, then I can click on a link to find out how to unblock the files but the instructions to do so don't make sense. The instructions tell you to save the file, then right click/properties/unblock, but I can't see how you can save a file if it hasn't been unzipped. How can I stop the .exe and .bas files from being blocked
I recently started using DVD Decrypter to rip some of my DVD's and then convert them to play on my Sony Playstation Portable (using PSP video 9) And it's working great. Now that I know how to do this, (rip tracks off of DVD'S) I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the BEST program is, or what people use, to use those .vob files and turn them into .AVI files or .MPEG files, so that I can carry them with me on my laptop.
I had to restart my computer after it finished a spyware scan. It restarted just fine, but I noticed a lot of things wrong once I logged on. 1)can't minimize programs to the taskbar. They won't show up if I try to minimize them, but I can access them by using alt+tab. 2)can't hide inactive windows, no circle with the arrows to click to minimize. I've tried right clicking on the taskbar and going to properties, but when i click hide inactive icons, and click apply nothing happens. Also when I click the customize button, the customize notification menu is empty. 3)I have no sound. I went to the control panel and checked on the sound and audio devices. I went through all of the tabs and they all said there was no device, but when i checked the hardware properties it said everything was working properly. 4)when I access the task manager and click on the processes tab, the user name column is empty. Usually there is either administrator or system.Other than these problems, everything else works fine. I recently installed something before my computer restarted and I uninstalled it and restarted it again and the same problem was there. if anybody knows what to do I would be extremely greatful.
I am wondering if someone can help while i play any games on my computer the games minimise to taskbar for no apparent reason. I have tried disabling the virus software etc even updated graphics drivers etc still no joy. When the game minimises i click on it in the taskbar it runs ok for another 10/20 minutes then does it again.
I'm trying to find the command (to which I can create a shortcut) to minimize all windows (Windows Key + M) and restore all windows (Windows Key + Shift + M) in Windows XP.
I'm aware that there is a Show Desktop shortcut, but that's not what I'm after.
To Minimize Outlook XP to the System Tray / Taskbar:Start / Run / Regedit Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Office 10.0 Outlook PreferencesClick on the right side of the screen, right-click and create:DWord Value: MinToTraySet value at: 1 (enable) or 0 (to disable MinToTray)
Lately I've noticed my windows seem sluggish and slow when minimizing or restoring from the taskbar.I mentioned it to a few friends and they have all noticed it as well. I had a look in my task list and I don't see anything out of the ordinary there. I'm running norton 2003 and MS anti-spyware and neither has found anything wrong. Just wondering if this is a common issue and how I can fix it.
Somehow I lost the icon at the bottom of the screen when I minimize a tab. It used to be at the bottom so I could flip back and forth between applications. How do I get my minimized icons back.
One of my computers has an odd problem that developes after a while where Minimizing and Maximizing windows becomes tediously slow, the animation runs realy slow and it flashes in different sizes.
Is there a shortcut for minimizing windows? I am finding it annoying to have to go to the mouse each time, and I don't like alt-tabbing with so many open windows.
When I open up a web page and minimize a page it will do so and then the page maximizes by itself. It won't stay minimized. This only happens sometimes and it started today? What would cause this and what can i do to stop it. Windows XP sp2 is the os.
I am using Windows XP with SP3 (updated) and there's this problem which annoys me a lot. Under Control Panel -> Visual Effects, I have selected "Adjust for Best Appearance".The problem is that the minimizing animation suddenly stops working after sometime and then starts again if I restart my PC. I don't think there's any damn thing wrong with any of the drivers.
I have the oddest problem thats occuured in the past few days.It appears to be connected with the opening and closing and switching between tasks. For no apparent reason, the window you either want to close or one that's been opened and you need to say click on a button to start a task, just fails to respond. The only way to unfreeze and carry on with your work is to open task manager then you can click on any line of info on the list, dont take any action in task manager, just close it down. Then you can carry on with what you were doing.I'm running a relatively new machine with XP SP3.I've reinstalled XP and I've checked the machine for all sorts of nasties and there's nothing.
This problem can be in programs, browsers (firefox is the worst. If you load a new page, all the URL links will not be accessible, meaning when you mouse over they do not change the cursor, til you do what I mentioned withthe task manager).I have checked the system performance with task manager open and I am not getting any sudden drains on the machine, which is a pretty fast processor (dual core) and working with 4 Gb or RAM.One other thing I noticed. Say you have a page of icons on screen for example in control panel. Single click to highlight one of them and then I would usually double click to perform the action. Now I can't double click because I get a small box open withthe options available open etc.
I have no idea why this is happening, but I reckon it is connected to the problem.I am going nuts with this, because it is adding a lot of time to my PC day constantly having to unfreeze. If anyone can throw some possible causes. I honestly thought the reinstall would fix this once and for all but no such luck.If there's anything I have left out to aptly describe this problem, please ask.
When I choose to minimize anything on my desktop it used to drop down to the single click startup bar area and wait to be recalled. Now, when I minmize anything, the only way I can recall it is to open Windows Task Manager and and launch it from there.
How do I increase the size of the minimize, resize and close icons without also increasing the size of the icons on the task bar? I can go into Advanced Settings Properties in the Screen Settings and increase the size of the Active Title Bar, but that also increases the size of the icons in the task bar. Take a look at the pics below. The first shows the Active Title Bar smaller and then increased in size in the second
I have a PC which boots up okay and I can double click on any icon, they open and when I minimise them they minimise. When I start Internet Explorer it all works fine with other icons maximising and minimising as they should. However when I close Internet Explorer I can't click on any icons and when I select them from the Start, Programs menu they start but won't minimise.
I followed the standard procedure to put an active web page on my desktop. i.e Display properties Desktop Customize Desktop Web Browse select web page Open OK Ok Apply Ok. This results in the web page being displayed but of fixed size (about 5cm by 5cm ) . The usual window buttons maximize ,minimize and exit are missing. Thus I am stuck with a small rather inadequate web page. I have run Microsoft anti spyware ,avg antivirus ,cw shredder etc but to no avail.
I am trying to delete the programs on C:Program Files that I dont need such as MSN Gaming Zone, Outlook Express, Netmeeting etc.But it wont let me it comes up with this error:Error Deleting File or FolderCannot delete Windows: It is being used by another person or program.Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. But there are not any programs open to my knowledge that use the programs I am trying to delete.
I picked up some crappy malware called ?Windows Police? last night while I was surfing for player info for my fantasy football league. I immediately ran a scan using AVG, but in my impatience and worry over getting this infection I googled for information and found instructions at this web site. So I mistakenly tried to follow them. Unfortunately I must have made an error in there somewhere because now I?m having problems opening program files. AVG scrubbed the virus but now I cannot open program files. Either the program cannot be found or I get the ?Open With? pop up menu. I?ve tried to run the WMI diagnostic but can?t get that to work either. Is this fixable?
I have found 2 damaged files-C:WINDOWSsystem32luctl.dll and C:WINDOWSCPBRKPIE.OCX .I tried to change this screen saver my daughter installed but i keep getting program not responding.I could not find screen saver in add or remove programs and am afraid i messed something up trying to change the screen saver.
I have old backup of favorites (bunch of *.lnk files) from Internet Explorer that i had on cd and forgot about it. Then i formated my pc and had to start over collecting them. Now after year i find out my old favs was on backup cd and i want to merge my old favorites with my current ones, the problem is there is about 100 links in old folder and about 200 links in current folder and many of them lead to same sites, i dont wanna have duplicates and i dont wanna sort them manually.
Is there prog that can copy file from one folder to another, checking if each file from source folder is not present in destination folder (and subfolders) under different name (by checking size or crc or md5 whatever)?
Or prog that can check which of files from source folder (without subfolders) are same as files in destination folder (without subfolders) and mark them to delete or move or smooth
