I have found 2 damaged files-C:WINDOWSsystem32luctl.dll and
C:WINDOWSCPBRKPIE.OCX .I tried to change this screen saver my daughter
installed but i keep getting program not responding.I could not find screen
saver in add or remove programs and am afraid i messed something up trying to
change the screen saver.
Is it safe to delete files from the Downloaded Program file once the
programs are installed?
Under OS win98se regarding winXPpro windows folder.Online virus scan says there is two adware programs, WUpd & Maxifiles under windowsDownloaded program files. Thing is though when I go into the folder I see five files totaling 192k in size with names like "java run time environment 1.5.0" But when I go outside of the folder and click on properties it tells me there are 22 files in there totalling 22.2mb in there. Whats up with this? I have "show all files" enabled under hidden folders. Why can't I see these files?

Active X controls loaded to the Windows Downloaded Program File Folder load
as two individual files. A setup .inf file and a .dll of the same name
instead of the standard multi-colored cubed icon that allows you to unistall
the file or view dependantcies. Can anyone tell me how this occurs?
FYI...This happens even after a complete recovery of the system.
Back at Christmas of 2002 I transfered all my files with a intellimover program. I found these files while clicking the Tools button on my browser window, Internet Options from there and then View Objects. The first thing in this downloaded list is a filed listed as and it says that it is damaged. It also has a date on it that is before my transfere. This file came from a HP Windows98 computer to my now Dell XP WIndows. It's only 4kb. It also says it was accessed today for some reason. Is my computer really using this file? Is this a file I need. I think its a windows update thing but now sure.

I used my add & remove program to uninstall the program but not all of it got uninstalled. I deleted the folder and then did a search in my registry for anything with refernce to the programs name "Ebay's Blackthorne" and deleted all entries with that name.Every time I reboot windows tries to install something for Blackthorne and I have to keep cancelling it out.

Well this morning I cannot get to it from windows at all a error message pops up saying MBR is corrupted or unreadable and that is it, the drive has worked flawlessly until the past week. Whenever I copied a file to it then tried to view or play it it wouldn't let me into the folder where i placed it saying a similiar message the folder has become corrupted and locked me out as to say. Today the system doesn't even recognize the drive at all.

Is there some way I can (forgive the terminology) 'stop the system' the second it passes the Windows Log In screen, it sometimes makes it this far but will not complete installation of all apps etc before dying. I have a damaged OEM CD and the expired CDKEY that came with it from maximum activations as I was having BSOD problems which then was discovered to be bad RAM. The company I bought it from is now bankrupt and non-existant. Now I am left with a CD that makes a great coaster and a CDKEY that has expired from activation. When I first installed it 1 support request was already used? I had made one request and registered it with Microsoft so it has to be on archive even if it hasn't been used.Since I can't copy and paste.

Now each time I open any program I get a box titles "Run As" with the following message: "Which user account do you want to use" It has two radio button choices, one is me (current user) and my log on name and the other would be if I wanted to select another user. It also has a box to select saying "protect my computer from unauthorized program activity". I have to respond to this box before opening any program and I cannot find a way to stop it from appearing. How do I get rid if this?

Anyway, when I try to download the Java from Wild Tangent (MS) and install it this is the error that I get, "The Microsoft Virtual Machine you are attempting to install is a protected system component and can only be updated with a later release of the operating system or service pack." When I click OK, it says that the Installation is complete but windows doesn't detect any Java. Pogo will not work with either of the Javas that I have tried to download and I'm understanding from this error that this is the reason.

I can't see my downloaded files. If I download a file and select a location too, then after the download is
finished I can't see it in that folder. Actually I can see hidden files
and so, but my downloaded file I can't. Where can I turn off this

Since upgrading my computer and reinstalling Windows XP Home with all upgrades, I haven't been able to run executable downloaded files (most recently openoffice but also Google Earth Pro trial). The files download properly but when I try to run them them, I get the message "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
I'm using IE beta 7 but have tried the same process using Firefox. All Windows Updates are complete. Running Norton AV 2003 and NVidia firewall set to Antihacking only.
When I download files using ie the download window indicates the files are downloaded but they are not there. I've been able to see the files being deleted instantaneously after being downloaded.

When I click on either of the first two options, however, the box simply clicks and unclicks with no actions following it. Almost as if you click "Post" in a forum, but you hold the click on it and move the cursor elsewhere, stopping the system from performing that action. I have downloaded, a new batch of .jpg files from a trustworthy site that I have been using without any problem for a couple of years. With the latest batch of files I find that whenever I try to open any one with PaintShop Pro, I get an Open File - Security Warning asking me if I really want to open it from an unknown publisher.
If I check the file's properties, I find it is blocked. I can unblock each file individually, either by changing the property or by checking an option on the Security Warning.
I can see no reason for this happening suddenly. I have found various possible solutions proposed (but for slightly different environments or file-types), but they do not work for me. Is there any really proven solution for either preventing the blocking in the first place or removing the block en block?
Just reformatted my system and every game that i download ...when i open it it says file corrupted ....possible file transfer error.
