Sep 10, 2009im trying to download 'there.com" it does the download , than when i try to open it to log on i get the opengl directx error, any way to fix this?

Downloaded A Program From Ebay / Program Didn't Get Install
Jun 19, 2005I downloaded a program from Ebay and after installing it I noticed it didn't have a uninstall. I used my add & remove program to uninstall the program but not all of it got uninstalled. I deleted the folder and then did a search in my registry for anything with refernce to the programs name "Ebay's Blackthorne" and deleted all entries with that name.Every time I reboot windows tries to install something for Blackthorne and I have to keep cancelling it out.

Apr 29, 2008Just formatted my desktop and installed a fresh copy of XP Pro on it. I did a search on google and found that some people said XP does not support directX 10, but then when you go to the directX website to download it, Windows XP IS under the list of "Supported Operating Systems". So is 10 supported by XP, or do I have to download 9.0c?

Mar 5, 2007Tried installing a program but it needed DirectX8.1.. Went to MS site and found that DX8.1 is already installed in XP. DOwnloaded and reinstalled anyway. Program still doesn't find it. Think it may be a registry problem but am hesitant to fool around with it. Anyone know how to make XP default to DX8.1? (There are other DirectX's in registry, i.e DX3, DX6 etc. Think it may be defaulting to one of these.

Dec 4, 2004I've reformatted my hard drive and am doing a clean install of Windows XP Pro.I have an upgrade-version XP CD. With previous Windows versions, I could upgrade this way with no problem: I booted from the new CD, and at a certain point the install program asked me to insert my previous Windows CD to verify that I qualified for the upgrade., when I try to boot from my Windows XP CD, it says, "This program cannot be run in DOS mode." Does this mean I have to reinstall Windows 98 before I can install Windows XP? Or is there some other way to verify the upgrade?

Jun 21, 2010I recently got a virus on it and reinstalled xp. Now all the games I used to play on it are coming up with directx errors. When I looked at the errors in the diagnostic tool it tells me I am using generic drivers. So I popped my driver disk in and installed them all but it still gave me the same error. So I reinstalled directx 9.0 with no fix. I understand that this thing is a beast and I should just stop using it but, it is the only pc I want to clutter up with old games and stuff. And I know it is compatible because I used to play these games before.

Aug 23, 2002Yet another "fix" for this problem. Many fixes out there, none of them worked for me. Found out what my fix was, undoing another tweak! If you have an undersized cpu(Duron 800) for running Geforce4 like me, it might do the trick for you too. Right click on "My Computer" and choose Properties. Choose Advanced, choose Settings under Performance. Choose Advanced again. There, change back to Programs incase you have it set for Background services and Systemcache.

Sep 25, 2006Under OS win98se regarding winXPpro windows folder.Online virus scan says there is two adware programs, WUpd & Maxifiles under windowsDownloaded program files. Thing is though when I go into the folder I see five files totaling 192k in size with names like "java run time environment 1.5.0" But when I go outside of the folder and click on properties it tells me there are 22 files in there totalling 22.2mb in there. Whats up with this? I have "show all files" enabled under hidden folders. Why can't I see these files?

Anyway, when I try to download the Java from Wild Tangent (MS) and install it this is the error that I get, "The Microsoft Virtual Machine you are attempting to install is a protected system component and can only be updated with a later release of the operating system or service pack." When I click OK, it says that the Installation is complete but windows doesn't detect any Java. Pogo will not work with either of the Javas that I have tried to download and I'm understanding from this error that this is the reason.
