View 6 Replies View RelatedJust formatted my desktop and installed a fresh copy of XP Pro on it. I did a search on google and found that some people said XP does not support directX 10, but then when you go to the directX website to download it, Windows XP IS under the list of "Supported Operating Systems". So is 10 supported by XP, or do I have to download 9.0c?

After downloading a game, I found out I needed Microsoft DirectX SDK to make it work. I downloaded it but now it's telling me:There is not enough free disk space on drive C:The amount of free space required on the drive is 1, 124, 040,704 bytes. The space currently available on the drive is 612, 560, 896 bytes.
I've tried getting rid of as much as I could on my computer (Microsoft XP by the way) but it didn't make much difference. And I really don't have much at all on it either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently ran XP SETUP to REPAIR my instalation of XP Pro. View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter getting the F11 restore (full factory format and reinstall) to work I went to the MS update site. This machine is running XP Pro SP1. I want to get the updates and install SP2. At the MS update site I see many updates needed and I start the download. They all download but on install they hang. Restarting gives the same problem. So I pop the SP2 disk in the drive and start it. It extracts, starts the Inventory, and hangs. Laptop doesn't freeze, the install just stops. Even tried it in Safe Mode and it hangs either on the Inventory or the next item, I forget which one.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently repaired my OS (yes, as in repaired in boot setup via the CD...) and now Windows Update doesn't seem to work anymore!
Automatic Updates or manual updates, it doesn't seem to make a difference, I have downloaded all the critical/high priority updates from Microsoft Update, but every time I try to install them, the message reads simply 'Some of the updates could not be installed' (ie: ALL of them! - see attached images)
I can download windows updates but am unable to install them.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi pulled out a program disc halfway through installation, which jammed up windows installer (every time windows was started, a message came up saying to please put in the install disc). I fixed that by finishing the installation (putting the disc back in 4 or 5 months later, we don't get to visit much), but during the time she had the problem, which was right when she got the computer,97 or so Windows Updates downloaded to the computer, but couldnt install.
These files include everything from the service packs (which are supposed to install by themselves), to critical updates. The computer is very slow at startup, and wants to install the files at shutdown. No error messages, but the files remain there wanting to install.
So i went to the update page to try and install them but the search bar just keeps searching without giving me any info. I let it run for an hour then closed it.
I have tried windows update and microsoft update both have the same result.
I have a broardband connection and have never had to wait this long before.
Can someone tell me please where can I download a reliable version of AVG anti-virus. I have downloaded it 3 times, twice from the grisoft site & once from somewhere else (can't remember now where tho) & all three times when I've gone to install it, a message comes up that there is a corrupt file. Does anyone know if there is a reason this keeps happening? Can someone tell me where I can download a version that's not going to be corrupt?
View 12 Replies View RelatedMy system is setup to download updates automatically, but prompt me to install them. I've downloaded a few updates (WMP, IE 7) but decided to install them at a later time. Well, I'd like to install them now, but the little yellow shield isnt in the system tray anymore. Is there a way to install them? I went to the microsoft website and the automatic scan says I have all of the most recent updates (yeah, I have them, but cant find them now).
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer didn't come with an XP CD, just the manufacturer's restore CD which will wipe out all I've done in the last four years. So, if I backup (copy) all the files on my C drive, except the Windows folder (assuming that's where all the OS files are), to an external drive, then run the restore CD which will revert the computer back to the way it was when I bought it. Then download and install SP2 and copy the original files back to C.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been having an ongoing problem in being able to install programs (diskeeper and Symantec) after I have downloaded them. Their advice to me has been to double click the "Event Log" in my Services list and set it to automatic. I have just realized that the title, "Event Log" does not exist in my list and I think that may be my problem. Recently, I upgraded my Windows XP Pro from a pirated version by paying for and installing the Genuine Windows XP Pro version. I had then installed SP2. I wonder if in all of this I have lost the Event Log heading and if anyone can tell me how I can get it back.
