So i went to the update page to try and install them but the search bar just keeps searching without giving me any info. I let it run for an hour then closed it.
I have tried windows update and microsoft update both have the same result.
I have a broardband connection and have never had to wait this long before.
I would like to configure a VPN between a office based file server and a
mobile machine. Both m/c's are running versions of XP and logins have been
set to allow the remote user to conncet as a properly authenticated member of
group on the offoce m/c.
Problem is I can't set the IP address for the remote machine to connect to.
The office conection is via a dsl setup and I have been given an IP address
for the internet connection by the ISP. After the ISP IP Address I expect to
see a modem (which is also my internal LAN DHCP server) and the IP Address of
the machine I wish to connect to.
If my ISP has given me an IP address 200.200.1.100, my dsl modem is
192.168.1.255 and the machine I wish to connect to is 192.168.1.100 with
subnet mask 255.255.255.0 how does this translate to a VPN configuration?
recently i downloaded 1 windows xp update through Automatic update ( i dont remeber what was it) After it completed its download...and when i tried to shutdown my PC, the box which comes showing the 3 buttons (Standby,Turn off,Restart), under it was written that "Turnoff the computer after installing the updates"...as it was normally displayed after installing the updates...The Problem is that after logging off (during shutdown process..) ,the screen which shows these messages "Installing Updates 1 of 1..." and "Do not Turn off or Unplug the PC..It will Turnoff Automatically..."..These messages keep on coming for a long time...i left my PC for 1 complete day..but still this update is not installing neither it is turning off my computer..Again if iam forcefully restarting my PC ..then the next time when i want to turnoff the same cycle happen

Automatic Updates or manual updates, it doesn't seem to make a difference, I have downloaded all the critical/high priority updates from Microsoft Update, but every time I try to install them, the message reads simply 'Some of the updates could not be installed' (ie: ALL of them! - see attached images)
I went to set up a new dial up connection in XP.I went to connection wizard, I click next, I check connect to the internet, I click next, I check set up my connection manually and click next. On the how do you want to connect to the internet page, connect using a broad band connection is allready checked and the other choices are greyed out. I cannot uncheck the connect using broadband listing. Every time I try this it is the same thing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can connect to broadband by moving the PC into my bedroom, removing the cover from the telephone socket in there and plugging the modem directly into the socket. This is not a satisfactory solution as I do not plan to surf in bed. In other telephone sockets in other rooms, the modem has a flashing green ADSL light which means it is not working properly. My fixed line telephone supplier says is it not a line problem and the ISP (the same company) says it is not a broadband problem. If it is my problem, how do I solve it? I've been using this laptop, and I have to deal with it for quite some time before I can replace my other one. Anyway, I've attempted to install Windows Service Pack 2 and 3 several times (I can't download or update Windows applications without it), but I haven't had any luck.
I almost get to the end of the installation when the "Extracting Files" box closes and an error message pops up saying "Setup Error: System cannot find file specified", then "Setup Error: Installation did not complete". It does this after the extraction stops on "i386updateupdate.exe"
MS windows update site will not allow manual download that I can see. It wants to download and install. Am I reading this correctly, or will it download and LET me install at my convenience? MS Instructions says to turn OFF AV before installing and I am not about to turn off AV while internet is turned on.
I am trying to download win XP, sp3, (for single computer, NOT for "IT" version) and it seems that MS does not want that to happen. I have spent the last hour searching for a MANUAL download of SP3, and not having any luck. Found several ways to get the "IT" version but there is a warning on the site, " NOT for single computers". When I go to windows update on the start menu I get sent to www.msn.com.Also when I click on Microsoft update it just grinds and grinds.Also when I go to the windows updates web page and try to download something manually it validates my machine and presents a clickable download button. View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter an automated Windows update, I found that I could no longer use the Remote Desktop Connection program that is built into my Windows XP Home SP2. I can go to Programs Accessories/Remote Desktop Conn/ and click on it, but nothing happens. I can also go to MyComputer/Windows/System32/mstsc.exe and click on that, and again, nothing happens. No dialog box appears. It worked fine just yesterday, but seems to be dead today. And I couldn't find a download on the MS windows site.
When i click the turn off computer button it is supposed to install an important security update. The update thing never goes away even though it looks like the update has been installad.

i cant find my install CD for XP but i have my Key code saved, anyone have any ideas where i can find a DL for XP that i can make into a bootable install CD.
