I did a search on google and found that some people said XP does not support directX 10, but then when you go to the directX website to download it, Windows XP IS under the list of "Supported Operating Systems". So is 10 supported by XP, or do I have to download 9.0c?

Dec 5, 2009while trying to fix another problem, by repairing WP on an Averatec 3200, the Install went into the actual install mode, rather than the repair mode. As I don't have the security key (someone who will go un-named, but I have my suspicions, threw away the plastic CD holder with the key taped to the back) I can't continue the install and I can't get the install off the computer. The reason that I was trying to repair is that I have the Log-on Virus which makes it impossible to log on and do anything about the virus. Can't even get to SAFE mode to try to remove the virus with Spyware Doctor.

Dec 2, 2002I am trying to install xp onto my new hdd. it goes through the formality of formating then it starts to copy files from cd to my hdd then all of a sudden it cant copy files. it is random(not a particalar file) some times at 5% 20% 80% ect:..but i can install winme no problems..then i try to install xp over the top of winme and i get the same problem..I have even taken my copy(originall) of xp to my friends and it installs with no problems at all..then i have taken their disk drive back to my machine, connected it and xp boots up with my motherboard..all is ok...but, when i do a fresh install with xp on their hdd i get the same problem..no settings in bios have been altered in anyway..

Aug 23, 2007My PC is running absolutely stable (7 hours of orthos). Just bought this EVGA motherboard and swapped it in place of an Asrock motherboard and got everything running, overclocked and stable.Before I got Windows XP running (previous installation from the asrock mobo), I encountered an issue and i isolated it down to one of the 200gb 7200.7 SATA HD's.IF this HD is plugged in when the PC boots, then the Windows XP Boot screen appears and hangs. NOTE: it DOES NOT freeze - the bar still moves, but there is no HD activity and the pc stays like this for hours on end. Note again - this is not a hang. the activity bar still moves from left to right, and it keeps doing this indefinitely it seems (with no HD activity from any drives). IF this HD is not plugged in, the PC boots in straight away. All drivers are tip top (nforce drivers, SATA drivers). However if I hot-plug this drive from within Windows, it works fine!. The PC just doesn't boot with the HD plugged in.

Monitor Drivers Unable To Install On Fresh Windows 2000 Install
Apr 18, 2005HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.

Jun 11, 2008During the update of XP with SP3, the install got hung up on the Beethoven sample in the My Music folder. After two fails, I went into "My Music" and deleted this music sample that originally came with XP, along with the other samples. Now these files are stuck in the Recycle Bin. these won't delete, and I get a message saying "Cannot remove folder Dc3 (or Dc2, Dc4). Access is denied." The files also won't restore back to the My Music folder, either. since I tried to delete them in the middle of the update process (I was getting an errror message whenver SP3 got to the Beethoven sample), that this somehow locked them out.

Sep 25, 2007I have just installed a fresh copy of windows XP sp2 on 2 machines. Both Dell Optiplex desktops. Usually it prompts that it has found new hardware for each device it hasn't found drivers for. Device manager lists them with a yellow exclamation icon.Problem I have now though is that the fresh install of XP does not show these prompt at all, although device manager lists them and if i go in there and update driver the device works.The problem I have is that basically i usually copy a driver heirarchy to the systemdrive and point the registry at them, which results in automatic installation on boot. This no longer works and I assume they are related as it doesn't look like it's automatically trying to install these devices.Is there a setting somewhere, seems very strange, what with it being a fresh install?

Everything seems to work fine apart from when I try to open PDF files directly from OE, it tries to open them with notepad, which obviously doesn't work. I can save them anywhere else on my computer, my documents for example, and opening them from there works fine. I have the latest Adobe Reader. I can't find anyway to tell OE to open these attachments using Adobe Reader.

Feb 14, 2005I have two computers, one I use for gaming, the other for school. Both computers had 60gb Maxtor (school with lots of room, gaming with about 10 gb free). My school HD took a powder (the evil clicky noise of doom), but I was able to back up my files prior to that. Me being a quick thinker, I decide to upgrade my gamer puter to a 120gb (don't wanna go too nutso, as I am considering building a much superior computer), and put the good 60 gb in my old Athlon 700. Problem? I cannot get Windows XP Home to complete install on my gamer computer. (Athlon 700 installed just fine with 'good' 60gb).Gamer Computer: Athlon 1800+, 512MB DDR Ram 2100, KR7A Raid MOBO, GeForce3 Ti 200 (128MB DDR RAM), SB Audigy 2(AGP).
It is a RAID mobo, but i do not use the raid functionality, I did not have a problem before(I have my HD and my 2 roms on ide now). I go through the install steps, and I get to the very very end, where it states you are about to start Windows XP, and then it hangs, and thats it.I have tried to ensure there are no conflicts, I pulled out my sound card as well as my network card, and 're-seated' my video card and RAM. I have tried looking at using a winxp bootup floppy, booted into safe mode (the only error it detects is the missing RAID, no conflicts detected there). Heck, I even swapped out mouse and keyboard. I tried putting back the good 60gb back in the pc, and reformatting, but still get the same thing(sometimes the screen is black, sometimes the icky blue of xp, but that's it).I have no idea now. I did make sure that my bios was up to date before taking down the system originally, and it was, so no change was made there. Even swapped out the ribbon cables to ensure nothing was damaged on original removal.

During the installation process, where there is the blue screen. you pick your timezone, computer name, ect .. a error message pops up saying: Code: An error occurred while copying file ------.Cannot copy file to destination directory.Click Retry to retry the operation, or click Cancel.The error comes up multiple times pointing out random files that it could not copy over such as "mspaint.ex_" .. ect.

I want to take the laptop HD out and put it into a USB mobile disk enclosure, then from my desktop in my windows xp RUN command I wanna set the XP CD in the drive to copy all its install files to the blank HD and start the XP installation but NOT RESTART after its done. Then take the HD out of the enclosure, pop it back into the laptop, boot up and have the install do the rest from there.

Jul 23, 2007I did an in-place repair of XP MCE 2003. I had previously installed all MS security fixes and updates, the list in my "installed programs" showed about 70 or 80 updates. The in-place repair gave me an unscrambled registry, and an unpatched XP install, without touching my installed programs or data. A good thing, overall, it fixed my major problem.
I immediately went to get all the updates -- 76 of them downloaded. I don't let Updater install automatically -- I get all the updates, but decide which to install because I got a bad version of IE7 that took me a long time to delete and recover from, but I installed ALL security updates. I generally use FireFox, so I didn't view IE7 as a security update. Anyway, it installed one or two updates, and then said the rest could not be installed....

Jan 6, 2008Have a laptop that i got in 2003 and i bought microsoft office pro with it. well my laptop is having problems and i have an extended warranty on it, the company said that the harddrive might have to be formated and i should backup everything. since my laptop didn't come with office and the cd got lost with the move to college, is there a way to copy the office program files? what im talking about is how with a game you can copy the folder .programs files/ea games/need for speed. like that and if you copy that folder to another computer it will work without having to be installed. i know its not in the registry.

Jun 3, 2008My friend's computer seized up in the middle of the boot. Tried recovery, but it isn't able to go forward. The hard drive seemed to be spinning tho, so chances were good we could recover the data. I removed the hard drive and copied everything to a back-up external drive using my own computer. Replaced the hard drive in the disabled computer. Question is how do I install Windows XP? The recovery files on the hard drive are not accessible, I assume, so we can't use those - right? We misplaced the disks that came with the computer, so I'm buying a new copy of Windows XP.
